It’s Official – Katie Couric Leaving The Today Show

April 5, 2006 by

Katie CouricAs I mentioned before, I watch The Today Show every morning, so I’m sad to hear that after fifteen years Katie Couric will be leaving her post as co-host. Couric will assume duties as the anchor and managing editor of The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Katie made the emotional annoucement during today’s show.

“I wanted to tell all of you out there … that after listening to my heart and my gut … I’ve decided I’ll be leaving ‘Today’ at the end of May…I really feel as if we’ve become friends through the years.”

All the best to you, Katie. I can’t say I’ll be seeing you, because I never watch those nightly news shows, but I’m sure you’ll be great.

So who’s going to replace Katie Couric in one of the most coveted jobs in all of TV journalism? My sources says that NBC will be announcing very soon that Meredith Viera, current co-host of The View, will be taking over for Couric.

Although most of us know Meredith as one of the crazies over on Bab’s gabfest, we must remember that Meredith Viera is a seasoned journalist with years of experience. I, personally, think she will be wonderful in the role. Can you imagine how happy Meredith will be to not have to hear Star Jones-Reynolds voice everday?!

But seriously, much like Katie, Meredith will show her journalistic integrity during the important interviews, but will also be able to transition to her loose and fun side with ease. I can’t say I’m 100% sure about Meredith taking over, but let’s just say that if I were a betting gal, I might just give up a romantic dinner with John Krasinski if I were wrong.
