This Week on GMMR…Good News/Bad News

June 4, 2006 by

Previously on GiveMeMyRemote.com…

GMMR was dealing with the stress of her move and the gut-wrenching season finales of all her shows. Facing a summer without new episodes of faves such as Veronica Mars, The Office, and Grey’s Anatomy, GMMR retreated to a fantasty world where all things were right in TV Land. Chris Daughtry was your American Idol, Jim and Pam ran off to elope in Austrailia, Beaver Cassidy Casablancas didn’t kill the kids on the bus, and Marshall & Lilly were still going strong on the wedding path. GMMR’s fantasty world was a nice place to visit, but would we ever get her back to update her much neglected blog? Stay tuned….

OK, ok, I’m back. I know I’ve been a little MIA lately, but things have indeed been crazy. There was a little lull on GiveMeMyRemote.com coinciding with the end of the traditional ’05-’06 TV season, but I’m back…and in full effect y’all. We’ve got a lot to catch up on, so here’s a look at what we’ll be talking about this week. Oh, and I’ve got a new interview lined up with one of today’s most “controversial” TV characters. Read on friends…read on.

EverwoodFirst up, the bad news: the end of Everwood. Like the rest of you, I am mourning the end of one of the best dramas on TV today. The two hour series finale will air tomorrow night, and I’ll be back on Tuesday with a recap and my thoughts on this television travesty. I’m sorry, but One Tree Hill gets renewed, 7th Heaven gets a reprise and Everwood gets canned? What I would pay to have a sit down with Dawn Ostroff and the powers that be at The CW? With all the horrible TV that makes it on the air today, it’s so sad when an amazing show like Everwood is let go. We’ll talk more about Everwood tomorrow, but I’d love to hear more about what you think has made Everwood so great during its run.

Give Me My Remote

Next…the summer shows!! I am officially excited for TV’s summer season. Check back a little later tonight for a quick recap on the shows we can look forward to this summer. I’ll be talking about most of these shows individually throughout the week, but it’s important to know what new TV we have in store over the warm summer months.

Also, we’ve been together for almost an entire TV season now, so I want to hear from you. Later this week I’m going to be launching a survey to find out what you all think about GiveMeMyRemote.com. What is working for us now? What can we improve upon moving forward? What shows do you want us to cover next year? That kind of stuff. If you are a regular GMMR reader it would be mean the world to me if you would take the survey. So watch out for it later in the week.

David DenmanAnd now for some great news!!! We all know that there our two sides to every story. Well in the case of today’s hottest TV love triangle, there are actually three stories to be told. Earlier this year, GMMR got the scoop from The Office’s Jim and Pam, and now it’s time to hear from the one guy in the world that won’t be squeeing when he hears about Jim and Pam’s casino night smoochingRoy.

Yes, GMMR has landed an exclusive interview with David Denman, who plays Pam’s fiance, Roy, on The Office. If you have any questions you are dying to ask David (or Roy) make sure you send them Monday. David and I will be talking later this week. I’m really excited about this one. From what I hear David is a great guy, and he’s so sweet to talk to me. Although, I will admit, I’m a bit nervous. It’s very surreal to talk on the phone with the actors from your favorite shows. Seriously, I wish someone had a camera on me during my first 20 minutes talking to Jason Dohring (Logan, Veronica Mars). I had already met the guy in person and I was still shaking like a leaf. Listening back to our conversation, my voice was at least 3 octaves higher than normal. Hopefully I will be able to keep my calm while talking to David. But then again, he’s on The Office, so I can’t guarantee that I won’t freak out.

Um, a few things to remember if you are going to leave me question/comments about this interview.

  • David is NOT Roy, so even if you aren’t a fan of Roy, don’t be bashing David.
  • Don’t bother asking him what’s happening in Season 3…he won’t be able to spill it. So if you want to know if Pam and Roy get married on June 10th or call the whole thing off, you are going to have to wait for September – that much I guarantee.
  • Make sure you read other’s questions before posting your own.
  • Think really hard about what you would like to know from David. Not only about Roy, but about his life, his work, and of course, life at Dunder Mifflin. Why do I have a feeling I might get some questions about his role as Skip on Angel? Hmmm.

Hopefully this interview with David/Roy will keep you Office-ianados going for awhile. I have another Office treat planned for later in the summer. It’s not an interview, but it’s a fun little project that I think you might enjoy. And for those of you who were wondering about my interview with Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute)…that’s going to be happening at the end of the summer. Closer to the start of Season 3.

So as you can tell, I’m back. The summer is full of TV news and gossip so I hope you will stick around with GiveMeMyRemote.com. I’m happy to say that the site is growing and growing fast. There’s way too much TV for me to cover on my own, so if you would like to contribute to GMMR in any way, please contact me and tell me what you’re interested in doin for us.

And don’t forget…if you see any good articles on your favorite shows, pass them along so I can share them with the others.

Do you relate to your character Roy at all?

  2. Nikki on June 4th, 2006 11:43 pm

Do you have any movie projects coming up?

  3. Kat on June 4th, 2006 11:45 pm

As a follow up to the episode “Basketball” – which actor from The Office has the best moves on the court?

  4. Neil on June 4th, 2006 11:46 pm

Tell us more about Roy. What is it about him that makes him seem like such a jerk to us? Do you feel he would seem like such a jerk if Jim wasn’t around for us to compare him to?

Also, who do you think came to Dunder Mifflin first? Did Roy get the warehouse job because Pam was the receptionist, or vice-versa?

  5. GMMR on June 4th, 2006 11:49 pm

Guys…these are exactly the questions I was hoping I would get from you. Insightful and fresh!! Nice…keep ’em coming. I can never have too many questions.

  6. Becky on June 4th, 2006 11:56 pm

How would you describe Roy and Pam’s relationship?

  7. melinda on June 4th, 2006 11:57 pm

I know that you are a fan of the British Series, is that what attracted you to the part in the US Series?

What would you consider to be your favorite episode of The Office? What makes it a favorite for you?

We all have moments at home where something so incredibly cringeworthy happens that we have to cover our eyes or react with the phrase, “OH NO HE DIDN’T”. Have you had any of those moments when you’ve watched the show?

  8. Sam on June 5th, 2006 12:11 am

Jenna Fischer has commented that she’s rooting for Jim and Pam just as much as all of the fans of the show? Where do you stand on that subject? Are you also rooting for Jim and Pam despite your role as Roy?

What is it about the relationship makes Pam stick with Roy – what do you think is the best thing about their relationship?

  11. Claire on June 5th, 2006 12:15 am

    I second questions 3 and 8!

  12. Samantha on June 5th, 2006 1:03 am

What has been your favorite episode so far?

  13. Stephen on June 5th, 2006 1:30 am

How did you get the role of Roy? What was the process like?

  14. michael on June 5th, 2006 1:33 am

In my opinion, Roy isn’t a jerk at all. He’s not as perceptive to Pam’s dreams as maybe he should be, but he seem to genuinely care about her and even seems to feel some affection (though, obviously not the same kind) towards Jim. I know that that is part of why I find the triangle so interesting.

Questions: Have you ever been in Roy’s shoes in real life? Have you ever been in Jim’s position, where whether someone will reciprocate your love or not you feel you have to tell them (I know I have)?

And a comment on the bad news….yea what’s up with that? I mean, I have never been a regular watcher of 7th Heaven but everytime I do see it it creeps me out. Am I the only person creeped out by just how intimately those parents are involved with their kids? The father asks the sons if they’re having sex and the one where he watched the youngest dance? EEEWWWW…….

Fulfilling the need, “so how was your role on Angel?”

I assume the makeup was difficult but do you feel it was worth it anyway?

Also, in the case of Angel or The Office had/have the writers given you any indication of things that were coming up regarding your character or that they wanted to see you do for the show, or did you pretty much just turn up whenever they needed you?

  16. Dan on June 5th, 2006 2:24 am

Were you a fan of the original Office series?

  17. Morgan on June 5th, 2006 2:55 am

it makes me mad they brought 7th Heaven back… the season finale was just crazy and now where are the storylines going to go? but please don’t bash One Tree Hill. it really is a good show and there were a lot of fans rooting for it. i am definitely going to cry during the finale and can’t wait to hear your recap.

  18. Becky on June 5th, 2006 2:57 am

You said in an interview with E!, “I think we’re gonna see Roy try a little harder next year, and maybe realize Pam’s a little cooler than he thought she was.”

At this point, the audience I think is mainly rooting for Jim and Pam. Do you think next season we’ll be sympathizing a bit more with Roy?

And Q:#8 must be addressed as well

As a person living in NEPa (Northeast Pa), and living only 20 minutes from the “Dunder Mifflin location,” I’d like to know when you and other cast members will actually come to visit the real Scranton, Pennsylvania?

I’ll photograph you with all the signs shown at the opening of the show!! Did you know we actually have a banner in the Scranton Square advertising Dunder Mifflin? I will even show you to the real Scranton Center, Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguin places (the hockey team jersey from the show), our real Chili’s, etc!!

Kudos for giving our radio stations props! The Froggy 101 bumper sticker on the file cabinet and Dwight calling, “Hello Rock 107, am I the 107th caller?” We even have law office here with O’Malley as an attorney (when Michael called his own lawyer because of harassment – episode with blow-up doll on file cabinet) Concerts are held at Montage Mountain (people go to ski up there, too), but they happen a lot more at the same arena the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins play at! These are perfect! I will never forget hearing local things mentioned!! I would love to hear that someone went hiking at the Seven Tubs nature park in Wilkes Barre!

Psssst… pass it on, us locals refer to the area as NEPa, some of the cast could have gone to my schools, Pittston Area or Seton Catholic high schools. We have tons of beautiful nature parks here. Harvey’s Lake is beautiful to go water skiing, fishing, swimming, boating, etc. Then there is Francis Slocum for camping, fishing or a family party in a beautiful park!

No, NEPa is not an Amish area, they live mostly in southeast, Pa…. 2 hours away. Their buggies just don’t go fast enough to get Schrute’s family up here in case of emergency! LOL

Electric City (Scranton) and Diamond City (Wilkes Barre) (aka EC/DC) and the Weekender are the local guides we read to find where bands are playing, local events are happening, where to go for what to do tonight or this weekend! Rainn was on the cover of both EC/DC!

You need to eat homemade pierogies, piggies and halupski, porketta and potato pancakes if you are from the area!! There are tons upon tons of pizza shops and styles to choose from. Old Forge style pizza is from our Old Forge, only 5 minutes from Dunder Mifflin!!

OH, and Pam should book an Adult Romance Enrichment Party with me for all the Dunder Mifflin ladies as a bridal shower party! LOL Then she can order Michael something better than the blow-up doll and buy Dwight a book about the clitoris!

I would gladly be the Romance Enrichment Consultant for the “Office party,” then we can make fun of the NEPa dialect and the Noxen bad hair! We claim to have started the word “haina” or “hayna” which is along the lines of the Canadian, “eh?” Or “Don’t you agree?”

Always here to give you more NEPa tips!

I’m really curious as to exactly how tall are you? 🙂

  21. GMMR on June 5th, 2006 6:12 am

I’m about 5’4…5’5 on a good day. Oh wait, did you mean David? Right…right.

  22. Jo on June 5th, 2006 9:07 am

If you could play any other role on TV right now (not limited to The Office), who would you be?

[…] GMMR has scored ANOTHER exclusive interview with another cast member from NBC’s The Office. This time it’s David Denman, the guy who plays Pam’s fiancée, Roy. I guess if I had slept with Jan, I could get some interviews, too. (GMMR) […]

LOL. Yeah, I meant David. But knowing your height also satisfies my endless curiousity..

Do you have any other famous “men behaving badly” from tv or the movies that you draw on for your Roy character?

What’s do you think a typical weeknight is like for Roy and Pam? What’s a typical date?

In The Carpet, they had Roy and Darryl doing all the dirty work – it seems to me like the property management company should have sent someone instead. I felt so bad for you guys!

Jenna said in an interview w/ Kristin of E! that you’ve been working out and will give John Krasinksi/Jim a run for his money in the stud department. Was is it your decision or the show’s to buff up?

  28. Melissa on June 6th, 2006 8:03 pm

How did you land the part of Roy? Did you meet any of the actors that are on the show before you got the part?

  29. Becky on June 7th, 2006 11:25 am

If you couldn’t be an actor, what career would you pursue?

  30. Brian on June 7th, 2006 3:36 pm

Do you find it difficult performing within the confines of a character whose role is largely to help define the relationship of two other characters? In other words, Roy is written sort of two-dimensionally because the storyline is really about Jim and Pam. Do you ever want to bust out of that mold and explore who Roy is, why he is the way he is, etc.?

Oh, and what’s it like working with Madge?

  31. proudgirl on June 9th, 2006 12:46 am

What’s it like working with Jenna? Is she really as funny and as sweet as she seems on her blog and in interviews? Any personal anecdotes would be more than welcome.

    Addendum to #13 + #28:

Did you originally audition for the role of Roy, or for a different role?
