What Would You Ask Rainn Wilson?

July 16, 2006 by

Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute on NBC's The OfficeWe’ve got another GMMR Exclusive coming your way. Yesterday, I got an email from Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute, The Office), and it looks like we will be chatting it up later this week. As I do with all my interviews, I wanted to open it up to all of you. Is there anything you would like to ask Rainn Wilson? Let’s go for thoughtful and unique here peeps. So no “have you ever worked in an office”, or “is Rainn really your name?”-type questions.

Time is of the essence, so if you have any questions…let me know as soon as possible.

UPDATE: Just wanted to let you know that the timing for my interview with Rainn has moved.  Although he and I had discussed talking this week, I think we are going to wait until a bit closer to the start of Season 3.  To be honest, I am personally thrilled.  By that time, Rainn will have back on set for over a month, & I think we will get more “Office” gossip from him. Keep the questions coming though.

    Here’s one!!

Hi Rainn! Hey! Our names rhyme! Question…what do you think Dwight would do with a million dollars to spend on anything in one day? Should be interesting… Rock On – Jane

    Here is a work-related question:

Does Dunder-Mifflin have a factory and make its own brand of paper, or does it only sell paper made by different companies?

Wow! I’m so glad that the Rainn Wilson interview is actually happening…

    Questions:
Do you think that you have anything in common with Dwight?
If Dwight were ever to get his revenge on Jim, what might he do?
Who’s your favourite character on The Office?
Who makes you laugh the hardest on-set?
I heard that you were a contender for the role of GOB on Arrested Development. Were you a fan of the show once it started airing? How would you have approached playing Gob, as compared to the way Will Arnett played him?
If you could play any role (past or present) on stage, film, or TV, who would it be?

hey, i have a question for rainn

question: do you freak out with the amazing response to dwight, or are you happy to be “queen geek bee”?

    greetings from chile

How do you think the Dwight/Angela romance began?

  6. Becky on July 16th, 2006 1:42 pm

Who is your favorite actor on The Office to do a scene with and why?

  7. Th Other Jane on July 16th, 2006 3:29 pm

Recently, I heard that you made a short film about modern clowning. Are you planning to pursue that direction as a wirter/director on any of your upcoming film projects?

Congrats to snagging another great interview! I look forward to reading it! 🙂

  9. Sam on July 16th, 2006 5:30 pm

Great job getting another awesome interview!
    I have a few questions:

What has been your favorite episode to shoot?

Do you own a Dwight bobblehead?

Are you, like Dwight, a big sci-fi fan?

  10. Kate on July 16th, 2006 5:41 pm

Question – since Dwight’s hair is always rocking the terribly flattering center part, has your hair started to naturally part in the center??

wasn’t Rainn an acting teacher? So I wanna know if he has taught anyone famous, like an up and coming star.

  13. Scooter on July 17th, 2006 12:32 am

Ask him what it was like doing the bit for the ESPY’s and if he saw Jose Canseco stick anything into Lance Armstrong’s backside in the bathroom.

  14. kim on July 17th, 2006 12:47 am

How do you think Dwight will react when the documentary is aired?

  15. Jamie on July 17th, 2006 4:43 am

Have you always played the sort of “geeky” character, and if so do you think you should/want to branch out to avoid typcasting?

  16. bigscreenlittlescreen.net » Week in Review: Little Miss Sunshine, Scoop, Peter Krause on July 17th, 2006 10:07 am

[…] Television wise, Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) will make his next television appearance on the Sci-Fi channel’s miniseries, the The Lost Room later this year. TV guide questions Jeremy Piven on Ari Gold’s world in Entourage to real life Hollywood shenanigans. For those who can’t get enough John Krasinski, and I know you’re out there, Give Me My Remote has some archived videos of him on the talk show circuit, and is also planning an interview of their own with Office mate Rainn Wilson. Finally, TV Squad has an in depth preview of ABC’s fall lineup here. […]

You’ve mainly played oddball characters so far. Do you think you’ll eventually be seen as a leading man type? Also, what is the essential appeal of Dwight that makes such an unlikeable character so well-liked? Does your bobblehead ever creep you out, or talk to you when no one’s around?

  18. Jill on July 17th, 2006 10:13 am

What was your brief MySpace experience like?

  19. jamFAN on July 17th, 2006 10:23 am

first off thank you rainn for doing the interview
question: working on any comedy must be hard mostly because you have to keep a straight face during very funny scenes…how do you keep yourself from not laughing at things michael, jim, and other cast mates say? does it take many takes to not laugh and will there be a gag reel on the season 2 dvd? once again thank you

  20. Melissa on July 17th, 2006 10:43 am

    Dear Rainn,
I was wondering what it was like to work with Uma Thurman & Luke Wilson on ‘My Super Ex-Girlfriend’. Was it a great experience? The movie looks great.
Also, I was wondering if you could tell us any secrets about your character for the 3rd season. Have you heard any rumors?
Last, I’d really like to ask if Dwangela will play a bigger part in Season 3? I’d love to see more Dwangela.
    Thanks!
    Melissa*

Wow GMMR…If I were you I’d get on my knees every night and thank my lucky stars that I get to do the fun things you get to do. 😉

  22. Lisa on July 17th, 2006 11:25 am

How much of Dwight’s background did you create vs the writers?? Beet farming?? Priceless…Schrute babies being very thirsty?? PRICELESS!!

LOVE THE SHOW SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! We have The Office viewing parties in our actually office every other Friday and like 25 people gather in the conf room to watch the DVD’s. Thanks for all the laughs!

  23. R.J. on July 17th, 2006 12:18 pm

    WOW! another amazing interview!

i guess the best question is…while working on “My Super ex-Girlfriend” did you and Luke ever tell people you were related?

  24. Jill on July 17th, 2006 2:15 pm

What are the pros and cons on working for TV versus movies? Do you prefer one over the other?

If you could have any other job besides actor (or assistant to the regional manager for a paper supply company), what would it be?

  25. TheNextKristin on July 17th, 2006 2:25 pm

Okay, I came up with more… my life is sad. Maybe I should interview Rainn Wilson. (Note: this in no way reflects any plans on my part to assume GMMR’s identity. I don’t speak Bostonian enough for that.)

What’s the relationship between the writers and the actors like on-set?
Were there any moments in the last two seasons that were especially fun to film? Do you have a favourite scene or line?
Has your daughter seen your work?

  26. GMMR on July 17th, 2006 2:29 pm

He doesn’t have a daughter. His son Walter is only 2 🙂

  27. michael on July 17th, 2006 3:12 pm

First off a big congrats to GMMR! I can say I knew you when…LOL

For Rainn: It seems that clothing/costumes are very important in the development and execution of the characters on “The Office”. Very specific. How much input have you had on Dwight’s hair and costuming?

Also, is it freakish or awesome to see yourself as a bobblehead?

Finally (and this out of left field as far as I know) what’s your absolute favorite cartoon?

Much love to everyone at GMMR and The Office!
    Michael

  28. Julie on July 17th, 2006 3:50 pm

I’d want to ask him if he enjoyed his role in Sahara and whether he wished his character had had as many shirtless scenes as Matthew McConaughey.

Also, woooooo to you GMMR for getting the interview! 🙂

  29. TheNextKristin on July 17th, 2006 4:42 pm

Whoops… for some reason I thought the son was a daughter. I probably even knew he had a son but forgot the baby’s gender when it was followed by a quote from John Krasinski saying he’s a great father.

Since he’ll be on set when you interview him, you obviously have to ask about that! What the reaction was like after they wrapped the season and saw that the show’s following continued to grow, and how he feels toward the upcoming cameos by the British Office cast.

  30. Amelia on July 17th, 2006 5:35 pm

What was your motivation for the Dwight role? Where did it come from, Rainn, where???

Which of the three songs would you choose to listen to: Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head, Here Comes The Rain Again, or Blame It On The Rain?

  32. Nicole on July 17th, 2006 6:47 pm

I love all of you but are you seriously expecting GMMR to ask Rainn some of these questions. If you had one of your favorite TV stars on the phone this is really what you would ask him? he

  33. Elizabeth on July 17th, 2006 8:58 pm

    Hey Rainn,

What did you like most about being an acting teacher; are you still in touch with any former students?

  34. Joey on July 17th, 2006 9:07 pm

    Hey Rainn,

Do the writers explain what they are setting up to the actors? For example, in the pilot, Dwight pulls his handset to his phone out of his desk. It seems kind of odd, until you see Conflict Resolution and learn Jim was having fun with nickels.

    My 2nd question would be:

I know the cast has said the show is remarkably scripted, but there are times where they have said they have some input. Can you name a time where you suggested something that got changed, and what it was like before?

    –Joey

  35. Lindsey Luker on July 19th, 2006 4:36 pm

I love love love the office but I would like to know a little more about being on the set of house of 1000 corpses, and six feet under. Was it eerie to be on those sets and did anything out of the ordinary happen? And did the comic Dilbert inspire the role or your portrayl of him?
