Project Runway Drama (Episode Recap)

Project Runway Season 3

I promised I would be back covering Project Runway, and I do not lie. Well at least not to you people. And since we are talking honestly here, I have to say that I have been underwhelmed at the designs we have seen so far thus season. But (and there’s always a but), it could be that we are still relatively new into the season and the designers just need some more experience with the show.

Tonight’s challenge was to create an outfit for INC, Macy’s top fashion line. Once again this was a team assignment. The four lead designers were Keith, Robert, Angela and Bonnie.

Ok, before we get to today’s HOT and NOT fashion designs, let’s talk about the drama. Yes, Bravo has been teasing us with a Puck-style kick-off* since before the season started, and tonight we learned what it was all about. And to be honest, it was boring. Ok here’s what happened. It appears that Keith violated some rules of Project Runway. No he didn’t threaten anyone with bodily harm, or spit in someone’s face (2 cardinal sins of reality TV), but rather the guy had books in his room. Yes, pattern-making fashion books. Since these kind of “how to” books were banned, Keith was in Trouble with a capital “T” that rhymes with “P” that stands for…for…um, screwed?. My main man Tim Gunn also informed us that while off camera, Keith snuck off and had an unexplained absence during which he used the internet. I guess this is all the “what not to do while on Project Runway” book. And with that, Keith was booted. Auf Weidersehen Keith.

Psst, Project Runway producers, unless he was smoking the crack he had hidden in those books, that was a pretty lame eviction. But rules are rules, and Tim Gunn does NOT like when you break them.

On to the runway. Overall I thought the designs were weak. There was one in particular that stood out to me, and that was Angela’s design. It was hip yet classic (yes, I’m laughing at myself talking about fashion). The judges seem to agree with me, and placed Angela in one of tonight’s top spots.

Joining Angela at the top was Allison & Jefferey. These two had to work overtime to make up for the loss of their team leader, Keith. But they did well and earned a space in the top slots.

So who won tonight’s competition? Let’s travel with the designers to Macy’s flagship store in NYC, and see how the winning outfit looks in the Macy’s window display. It’s Angela!! From what I hear, Angela’s outfit looked great**. This means she has immunity next week, so I guess we have a few more weeks of this chick – my least favorite on the chow.
Now about the losers. Rob (and his team) and Bonnie (and her team) deserved to be in the bottom two. There outfits were ill fitting and boring, and this is coming from a girl who lives in Red Sox t-shirts and jeans. But who would stay and who would go? Tune in next week when we find out…nay just kidding.

It was Bonnie’s turn to give her kisses to Heidi and say goodbye. Whew…two Auf Weidersehen’s in one night. That’s a lot to deal with.

I wish I had pics of all the designs, but the Bravo site isn’t working properly right now. I’ll be sure to add pics of Allison/Jeffrey’s outfit tomorrow. I think Angela’s design (shown below on the left) is going to win anyway.

Project Runway Recap

What did you think about the winning and losing designs? And about Keith’s outsting. Talk about it in the GMMR Forums.

* If you don’t know who Puck is, please don’t tell me. I will just feel old.

** When I wrote this recap I was literally falling asleep at my keyboard. My eyes were closing mid-sentence. As is turns out I fell asleep before they showed the winner. I thought that Heidi said we were going to see the winning design next week. I’m a bad, bad blogger 😉

Actually, Angela’s team did win. They showed it at the very end of the episode.

And her name is Bonnie, not Brooke. 🙂

I love your website! I usually read it for Office-related stuff, but now that you’ve got PR recaps too? To quoth the Klum:

    “Day-um.”

Ha ha ha…ok, thanks for your comment. I was writing this recap and my eyes were literally shutting. And I think my TiVo cut off because I missed the ending. But you know what, I probably just fell asleep. So much for my recaps…I suck 🙂

Okay – is it just me or would Robert and Kayne make the cutest couple???

I think maybe they should bring Keith back next season, give him another shot. See if he sits around and watches everyone else do all the work again. (or was this convenient editing?)

I still like Michael, Robert and Kayne the best – even though none of them became team leaders this time.

Angela – good design, I guess. I just hate to see horrible people succeed despite their behavior. This girl is smart though, she knew she had to kiss butt and change her ‘tude in order to stay around for another round.

Although i understand why Keith got kicked off, the whole hype thing leading up to this episode was…..disappointing. I thought it was going to be some HUGE serious breaking of the rules. Plus my sister kept saying it was Kayne, to tease me (b/c he’s one of my favorites) etc. etc. I just felt bad for Keith b/c he had potential. I mean, he could be a total jerk (actually, he was a jerk for the majority of the show), but didn’t he say that he never used the books? I don’t know, nor do i care. He broke the rules, he’s gone.

I can’t stand Angela, but i guess i’ll just have to put up w/ her for a little while longer (since she does have immunity). I’m not huge on fashion but every time she starts sewing those rosettes…ugh.
