“The Office” is the Best Comedy on TV

“You have won a tiny Dundie…”

I’ve said it all along, and now they have these little gold status to confirm it. What a crazy fun night. I actually was just able to see The Office win about 10 minutes ago via a MySpace video. Long story…but I wasn’t in front of a TV last night when the awards were announced. I know…I know!! Believe me, it damn near killed me. But I’ve seen it and that’s all that matters.

A few housekeeping matters – I am leaving LA later today. And no, I didn’t get to meet one single person from the cast of The Office. Honestly, I really thought it would happen…I thought it was one of those meant to be things. Ha ha. I guess I was wrong. Oh well. I got to meet some very cool TV stars, and I promise I will tell you all about it, but to be honest, I just haven’t had the time to digest it all. I have the day off from work tomorrow so we’ll dish then. And I may just have spotted one TV star that I hadn’t mentioned in a previous post. He may have been hanging out at my hotel pool yesterday, and he may have been such a fave of mine that my heart felt like it was on a ferris wheel all day 🙂
Ok, ok, back to the important stuff today, and that’s The Office’s win. Here we go.

Check out the cast and crew of The Office winning the all important Dundie!!! (A special thanks to ddker)

emmy_statue.gifEmmy night has come and gone. If I were a bettting woman, I would have lost my shirt on these awards. Man, I didn’t fare well when it came to prediciting the winners. To be honest, in the major award categories I only correctly predicted The Pivs win for Entourage and my beloved Office. So I’m 2-789 I guess. But then on the other hand, I really don’t care because The Office won, and now it gives me some time to gush and gush about my favorite show (ha…like I don’t normally…just wait for the next post Office fans).

Here’s a list of all of last night’s winners….just in case you were looking for them.

“The Office” Wins Best Comedy!!!!

I’m on the West Coast and haven’t been able to see a single moment of the Emmys yet, but I just heard that The Office just won the Emmy for Best Comedy. YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! This just made up for Steve Carell’s Emmy loss. I know my coverage of the Emmys is sucking right now. Being on the West Coast for tonight’s ceremony didn’t work out as I hoped. But who cares….THE OFFICE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m heading home tomorrow, and I will be back in full force Tuesday afternoon!!!

The Emmys are Here!! The Emmys are Here!!

August 27, 2006 by

The day has finally come.  Sunday, August 27, 2006 – The Emmys.  Are you guys as excited as I am?  I can’t wait for the red carpet…the glitz…the glam…the cast of Grey’s Anatomy NOT wearing scrubs.

Here in LA the Emmy buzz is palpable.  Walk around the city and find clubs prepping for post-parties days in advance.  Camera crews and lighting equiptment seems to be everywhere.  And you better check with that restaurant before heading out, because most likely they will be closed for a “private event.”  A VERY private event.
Maybe it’s just because of this blog, but I really feel that there is more excitement around the Emmys this year, than in years past.  Maybe Conan O’Brien was right.  Maybe this is the ‘golden age of TV’.  I don’t disagree. With all the well written and well acted shows on TV, it’s amazing to think that each category has only one winner.  Seriously, I’m not sure I want to live in a world that would make me choose between Arrested Development and The Office for Best Comedy.  That’s just not right!!

I’m interested to see if the “sure things” will take home the prize.  Yeah, everyone is saying that Grey’s Anatomy and The Office are a lock, but lest we forget about another little awards show called the Oscars and a passed by movie you might have heard of called Brokeback Mountain.  Anything can happen.  I can’t wait!!!

But wait I will have to.  I’d love to live blog tonight’s event, like I try to do most awards show, but here in California, the Emmys aren’t telecast live.  So had I been back in Boston, I would know the MINUTE the winner was annouced, but since I am 10 minutes away from the building where the Emmy are being held, I have to wait another 3 hours!!  What?!  I think the red carpet is being shown live on E! but that means I will have to tear myself away from this beautiful pool (from where I am writing write now) and sit in my dark hotel room.  Again, this all seems a bit unfair. ‘So close, yet so far’ – I feel like I need to put it on a t-shirt.

I’ve been pretty vocal about who I want to take home the biz prizes of the evening, but I don’t feel like I have a good sense for who YOU want to win.  So drop me a line and let me know.  We’ll have a lost to dish about in the morning.  I promise to do my best to get online as early as I can so we can chat.  I’m feeling a bit guilty for being so MIA during this exciting TV week, but what can you do, vacation is vacation!!

Not sure when I’m going to be able to jump back online, so here’s the Emmy noms one more time (and of course by picks to win).

What a night!!!  I’m having a blast kickin’ it in LA, but even I couldn’t have predicted how fun tonight was going to be. I just came back from a cool Emmy red carpet event where  I got to meet some of the best of best TV has to offer.  I promise to spill all the details VERY soon, but it’s a Friday night in LA, and I need to head out for a little more fun.

Oh who did I get to meet?  How about Denis Leary, Allison Janney, Mariska Hargitay, Chris Meloni, Will Arnett, and more!!!

“The Sports Guy” Mailbag Makes Me Happy

August 25, 2006 by

I’ll let you in on a little secret. Few things make me more giddy than heading over to EPSN.com and finding out that The Sports Guy (Bill Simmons) has updated his infamous “mailbag”. The mailbag is just what it sounds like…Simmons answering questions sent in by his readers. But as you will see, the mailbag (and his ESPN columns) aren’t necessarily all about touchdowns and OBP. The Sports Guy loves TV and pop culture just as much as he loves sports (and his beloved Boston teams). Bill Simmons would be my #1 choice for a partner on The World Series of Pop Culture….without a doubt.

So since I am still pretty tired from my travels yesterday (and a wee bit hungover) I thought I would share some of the best from the latest Sports Guy mailbag. Click here to check out the full mailbag column.

Q: The other night I woke up in mid-laugh. I was dreaming of something so great that it needed to be shared with you. In my dream I was attending a “Saved By the Bell” fantasy camp where we (the campers) would act out our favorite episodes. We used the actual sets from the show. In my dream we were sitting at the far-right booth at The Max when I awoke in laughter. My friends and I came up with some other ideas for fantasy camps that we would attend, like MacGyver and AirWolf. What camp would you want to go to and why?
–Scott L., Tacoma, Wash.

SG: The best feature of a “Saved By The Bell” fantasy camp would be Dustin Diamond hardballing them for an appearance fee. Anyway, I’d want to go to the “Grey’s Anatomy” camp so I could grab my fake girlfriend, look into her eyes, take a dramatic pause, then belt out a line like, “I don’t love you for who you are. … I love you for who you’re not.” I’d want to go to “CSI: Miami” camp to play Caruso’s character in various scenes. (“We need … to find … the body … before … sunset. … “). I’d want to go to “90210” camp so I could get filmed doing the turnarounds in the opening credits. But most of all, I’d want to go to “The Bachelor” fantasy camp and just reenact rose ceremonies and bad dates. I think I’d pay $4,000 for this.

Q: After the “Entourage” episode when Vince had $300,000 riding on multiple blackjack hands and the chucklehead sitting to his left split his face cards, as it always does for Vince’s crew, things worked out and dealer busted, followed by Ari kissing the chucklehead on his bald dome. Shouldn’t there have been a Public Service Announcement at the end of the episode instructing amateurs not to split a 20. … Or at least have had Johnny Drama beat the pulp out of the dude in the final scene while screaming “Never split a 20!”?
–Ben, Charlotte, N.C.

SG: I like the idea of the public service announcement. It could have been like one of those ’80s sitcom moments — Vince and the gang staring seriously into the camera and saying, “Tonight’s episode was a dramatization. In real life, you should never split 10s when someone else has $300,000 riding on the table, unless you want to be beaten up, mutilated or murdered outside the casino later that same night. Please respect everyone else at your table. Thank you.”

Q: What do you think your daughter’s nickname is going to be on the 2023 edition of “Flavor of Love?”
–Matt D., New York

SG: Orphan.

Q: I am watching the “I Love the ’90s: 1991” show and they are on the “90210” segment. As the various commentators discuss their favorite parts of the show, the following quote is said. “I thought the hottest was Andrea. Behind those glasses, sex goddess.” Your commentator? Mr. Lance Bass!
–Red, New Jersey

SG: Get out of here! Come on, you’re making that up. There’s no way that happened. I need video proof. Somebody put this on YouTube please.

OK, this one isn’t all that funny, but since Bill Simmons does give a shout out to my hometown, I couldn’t pass it by.

Q: I am in a fantasy football league with nine guys. I won last year. That’s right … in a league with nine guys and one girl, the girl won. How ashamed should they be? Can they legitimately call themselves “guys” anymore? Do they need to wear an equivalent to the Christie jersey for our upcoming draft? Just curious.
–Erin B., Malden, Mass.

SG: Wait, I think they lost the ability to call themselves guys the moment they allowed a female in their football fantasy league. I can’t even fathom how this happened. Do they invite you to bachelor parties, too? And how did this happen in the Malden area, of all places? You made that e-mail up.

gmmr_office_tvjcallout1.jpgWell I made it to LA in one piece. I may have already had a few drinks poolside bit I’m all in for The Office TVj session tonight at 8:30pm EST. Sorry for the late reminder, but I hope you all can make it.

For those of you who stopped by last week, I hope you had fun. I’m going to see if I can try to get people to chat more to eachother and not as much repeating lines, etc….that might help slow things down a bit. And if things went a little too fast for you last week, make sure you give it another shot when Season 3 rolls around on Sept 21st. I have a feeling there will bemore watching and less chatting…until the commercials when I expect us to break everything down moment by moment.

See you for The Office TVj session at 8:30pm EST….I’ll probably open the session a bit earlier, so come on by.

Rescue Me Recap (Hell)

Rescue Me Recap

Julie is back with another kickass recap of Rescue Me. I don’t usually like to taint her recaps with my babble, but I just need to say that I had such an emotional reaction to last night’s show. I mean gut wrenching tears, fits of laughter, and one holy sh*t scream that I’m sure my neighbors didn’t appreciate. I just think this show gets better and better with each episode. And I’m so sorry that I didn’t jump on the bandwagon until this season.

Title: Hell
Original Airdate: August 22, 2006

As a rhythmic song plays over the opening scene, we see Johnny’s doctors give up and pull the sheet over him, then a series of reactions by cellphone: Tommy stoically receiving the news from Johnny’s partner; Tommy’s cousin, who can barely believe it, hearing it on a crowded street; Sheila crumpling to the ground outside a store; Maggie tightly gripping her phone, exasperated; Janet, sobbing openly as she slumps down a wall. Tommy picks Janet up, tells his girls, who react mutely, and then holds Janet as she collapses against him.

The crew are debating what to do about Jerry’s tardiness (2 hours late is unlike him, and he’s not answering his phone) when Tommy walks in. He delivers the news about Johnny numbly, plainly, asking if someone can come with him to tell his dad, because Tommy’s not sure how he’ll react. Lou agrees, and they instruct the other guys to go grab another fire chief and check out Jerry’s house.

On the drive to his dad’s, Tommy explains to Lou that Johnny was going to testify against a drug dealer with two strikes against him. They think the drug dealer hired someone to do the shooting. The partner got an ID, though, so they’re looking for him.

“Veronica Mars” Season 3 News Extravaganza

Veronica Mars Season 3 News

With a title like that, I hope I didn’t oversell it, but I do have a good amount of Veronica Mars news to share with you this morning.

First up…Veronica Mars Casting News

According to the ever fabulous Michael Ausiello, we can expect a few familiar faces sauntering about Neptune this year. In the never-ending search for Keith to finally replace the hideous Lianne Mars, the World’s Greatest Dad (besides my own of course) meets a sassy lady from his past. Well, truth be told, she’s not from Keith’s past, but rather Enrico Colantoni’s past.

Laura San Giacomo on Veronica MarsLaura San Giacomo, who played opposite Enrico on Just Shoot Me, will play a Mars Investigation client that might just stick around once her case is solved. According to show creator Rob Thomas, “She plays a woman who comes into Mars Investigation and asks Keith to prove that her husband is cheating on her, and the two of them kind of hit it off,” Rob reveals. “So Keith is really hoping he finds evidence that he’s cheating.” Rob Thomas also said that it was Laura’s friendship with Enrico that convinced her to take the role, which we are told will last several episodes.

Personally, I’m hoping that Laura sticks around for awhile, as Veronica could benefit from a strong female in her life. Rumor has it the new woman in Keith’s life is already sharing important advice with Veronica – “Veronica, you should go for him. You look hot tonight. Don’t take less than $100. Call me when you’re through. Take care of you.”

Patty Hearst to Guest Star on Veronica MarsIn other somewhat less exciting casting news, Patty Hearst will be appearing on Episode 8. Rob Thomas tells us, “She is playing a character close to herself. She’s playing the granddaughter of Hearst College’s [founder], who in our world is a railroad baron rather than a publishing baron. It’ll be similar, but she is not literally playing Patty Hearst.” Yawn. This smells of some serious stunt casting and we all know how has has turned out for VM (*cough* Paris Hilton *cough* Kristin Cavallari *cough*)

Veronica Mars Season 2 on DVD

Veronica Mars Season 2 on DVDYes, yes, yes…Season 2 of Veronica Mars is NOW available on DVD. Relive the EPIC stories, and mysteries that surround fair Neptune, CA last year. Give Me My Remote

So I’m leaving Boston on Thursday and heading to Los Angeles, CA!! As much as I’m looking forward to a few days of R&R, the trip is a little bittersweet. I had hoped (against all hopes) that I would somehow get access to TV’s greatest night…the Emmys. Luck wasn’t being much of a lady this year (more like a street walker), so I’ll be watching the big event on TV, just like all of you. The only difference is that I’ll be doing it from my hotel room in Downtown LA. So close yet so very, very far.

The trip is still going to be fantastic, as I’m traveling with a VERY fun friend. We are going to have a blast! Maybe we’ll even run into a few of our favorite TV stars while we are in town.

Let’s face it, I’ve had some luck with celebrity sightings during my past few jaunts to the Left Coast. February was my first trip to Cali and I got to hang with the cast of Veronica Mars. Not too shabby (sometimes it’s good to be a blogger). My second trip out the California was just a month later when my girlfriends and I hit up Palm Springs and LA to celebrate my friends 30th birthday. We were lucky enough to run into a bunch of celebs including One Tree Hill’s James Lafferty & Hiliarie Burton, Drew Barrymore, Isaac Mizrahi, the cast of The Hills, and a drunk off her ass Tara Reid (like there’s another version of her) among others.

So what can I expect this trip? Well fingers crossed on some TV celeb sightings as the best of the best will be in town for The Emmys. Anything is possible.

On my dream trip, here’s what happen:

…I just happen to run in to the cast of The Office having a few drinks at the local watering hole, and they invite me to join them.

McDreamy and I are at the same restaurant on Saturday night and we share a smile over sushi.

…And you never know if Denis Leary will be sitting next to me in a sports bar catching the Sox game. Anything is possible – this is LA people…dreams happen here!!

OK, ok I probably won’t be posting pics of John Krasinski and I singing “Islands in the Stream” at a karaoke bar, but I promise to do my best to keep you up to date while I’m away. And if you listen really closely, you just might be able to hear me squee for joy when Steve Carell and The Office take home their first of many Emmy awards.

Just a few housekeeping items…

Despite my trip, I will still be hosting my “Office” TVj session over at BuddyTV.com on Thursday night. So join us at 8:30pm EST and we’ll watch The Office together!! Don’t forget to head over right now and set a reminder for yourself. Angela Kinsey even gave our new adventure a little shout out on her MySpace blog…how I ADORE her!!

In other Office related news (sorry it’s so Dunder Mifflin-centric today), I wasn’t able to score an in-person interview with Rainn Wilson or J. Kras while I was out in LA (wah wah), but my phone interview with Rainn Wilson is still on for Septemeber (woo hoo), so be thinking of some more great questions so we can discuss when I get back.

It’s going to be a bit tough to blog pool side while I’m gone, so if you find any interesting TV-related articles or news, be sure to pass them on. That might be a great way to keep GMMR fresh while I’m in LA.

I won’t be able to live blog the Emmy telecast, but I’ll be back on Monday with all the highlights and disappointments of the night. Is anyone else as crazy excited for the Emmys as I am. Let’s hope Conan skewers the Emmy voters for their whacked out nominations this year. At least one Lauren Graham/Kristell Bell reference must be made.
