Red Sox GM Theo Epstein Gets Married - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein Gets Married

January 31, 2007 by

Theo Epstein

A moment of silence please. I just received the news that Boston Red Sox General Manager, Theo Epstein, married his long time girlfriend Marie Whitney in New York earlier this month. I’m trying to figure out a way to relate this story back to TV, but I really can’t. But it’s a big deal for me so I hope you will allow this indulgence.

See, before that tall lanky guy from Newton, MA came into my life, I was all about the ambitious and adorable Jewish kid from Brookline, MA. I had a major crush on Theo – hey I like them smart, what can I say. Yes, I was perhaps the only girl showing up to Fenway to see her beloved Red Sox sporting a t-shirt not emblazed not with Big Papi, Manny Ramirez or Curt Schilling…no, I have a Theo Epstein shirt – yes, my love was that deep. So it saddens me a bit to know he is officially off the market (not that him being single really makes a difference in my life.)

Anway, Sports Illustrated is reporting that Epstein and Whitney married in a small ceremony at…get this…New York’s Nathan’s Famous hot dog stand. Yeah, no clue there. Supposedly “the wife” grew up in the area and has some strong memories of, um, uh, hot dogs?

Epstein getting married without fanfare of the Boston press is quite an accomplishment. This was the same guy that had to don a gorilla suit to escape the press just last year

So anyway, congrats to Theo. You were a good crush while it lasted. Ok, enough wedding stuff…get your attention back to the Sox.

You are not alone in your sadness. He was definitely on my Hot Guys to Look Out For List while I was in Boston. They don’t make baseball managers that hot in Florida. They just don’t.

Come on, Red Sox games are shown on TV (especially if you have NESN). Theo Epstein is shown on TV, and sometimes even interviewed on TV!

(Plus, like all of New England, I totally agree – he’s completely hot.)

I saw this headline on my RSS feed and wondered, before I clicked, how you were going to relate it back to TV. You could have gone the “Hey, it was on the nightly news” route, or the ever popular, “Red Sox games ARE televised after all” route. I’m impressed that you opted for the “To hell with it. It’s my site, and I love this guy” route.

Good for Theo. I hope the Sox win the pennant every year.

And don’t knock Nathan’s ’til you try ’em.

I heard this on Kiss 108 this morning as I was in the shower and proceeded to cry. My dad was also hoping that I’d somehow marry the nice Jewish boy who lived not to far from me in Brookline and then he’d get Sox tickets for life…

GMMR – i must say that you have fantastic taste in men. I love that you go for the smart, cute guys and not just the dumb jocks. Me, I’m a dumb jocks girls and it has gotten me nowhere.

    Heath,
I like that you imply that me liking the smart, cute ones has made a difference for me.

Kath, I thought of you the minute I heard this today on D and C….sorry!! But you’ve moved on to bigger and better things, aka John K.

    Kath,
As a long-time RedSox fan, I didn’t hear about this until I clicked here to check in GMMR-land! Thanks for the scoop. Can I expect more RedSox news to be reported here, or should I go to SOSH? 😉

Despite the fact that I’m a die-hard Yankees fan (sorry, guys) I, too, had a crush on Theo before i fell in love with Barry Zito (another story for another time). And now i’m in love wiht john krasinski (actually, hours of googling his name led me to this website). We just have the same taste in men, dont we!

Theo is one helluva GM. Ours is pretty good and I’d still kill for him. Any GM that can hang on to Manny that long is okay in my book. Ugh, I want him back!
