Veronica Mars Episode Recap

Title: “There’s Got to be a Morning After Pill”
Original Airdate: February 7, 2007

Was last week’s episode of Veronica Mars so good that this one pales in comparison, or was last night’s episode just boring? “There’s Got to be a Morning After Pill” wasn’t my favorite episode of this season. I actually thought it was a little bland. Kristen Bell was perfection per usual. Dick Casablancas had some classic lines. Logan got all whiny and quippy and I loved it. But on a whole, I didn’t love the episode. Hmm.

Anyway, on to a recap of last night’s events:

Remember Bonnie? She was the Slutty McSlut that was sleeping with Dick but dating Tim “Lucky I had a bad wig” Foyle? Yeah, she’s not that memorable to me, but for some reason she seems to have more screen time than Wallace this year. Well, Bonnie had gone and got herself knocked up by either Tim or Dick (one can never be sure?). But it seems no baby will be born as someone has slipped Bonnie RU486 (aka the morning after pill) which caused her to miscarry. Bonnie enlisted Veronica’s help to find out who did this to her.

Roni started with the obvious…the possible fathers. Dick, being the gentleman that he is, offered to pay for an abortion as soon as Bonnie could take a paternity test and prove the kid was his. Tim on the other hand stepped up and asked Bonnie to marry him – not the gesture one would make if they were planning on forcing her to have a miscarriage.

During the course of her sleuthing, Veronica discovers that Bonnie is the daughter of one of those TV preachers. The minister’s daughter gets knocked up? That can’t be good for ratings. But as is turns out, Bonnie’s parents were pretty excited about being grandparents. I personally thought it was a bit odd for them to send congratulation balloons to their college aged knocked up daughter, but to each their own.

Veronica visited the Neptune Women’s Clinic, the only place in the area where RU486 is administered. She figures that maybe Dick got someone to sneak a pill out of the clinic so he could slip it to Bonnie. Unfortunately, with all those pesky privacy laws she wasn’t able to get much information. But she was lucky enough to be photographed ‘sniper style’ walking out the clinic. Keith is a little concerned a few days later when those photos show up in his mail. But Veronica lets him know she was there on a job and she isn’t and never has been pregnant. Keith is relieved and Veronica is pissed that someone is out there taking these shots. If I were Keith I’d be bummed Veronica wasn’t pregnant – that Echoll’s kid is LOADED!! Keith would be set for life.  (I kid, I kid.)

Father and daughter Mars use their Mars’ing ways to track down the guy that took the photos of Veronica at the clinic. Seems he’s with Neptune’s most vocal Pro Life group. In addition to taking pics of women coming out of the clinic they also hand out Pro life literature (brochures, bookmarks, etc).

Later, still on the case, she decides to attend church with Bonnie so she could sneak into the offices of one of most outspoken Pro Life members of Bonnie’s father’s church. She meets up with Bonnie in her dorm room, just as Bonnie’s father shows up too. As they gabbed on Veronica spied one of the Pro Life bookmarks she saw earlier in the day. The bookmark was in the ‘What to Expect While You’re Expecting’ book. A book that Bonnie’s roommate Phyllis had said that Tim gave to Bonnie. Well as it turns out, Tim never gave the book to Bonnie….Phyllis did.

Yes, Phyllis broke down and confessed that she didn’t want her best friend’s life ruined with a baby. She managed to get her hands on the RU486 and she slipped it to Bonnie. Whoa, nice friend. With the case solved Veronica can get on to her other issues…namely Logan Echolls.

The Ballad of Veronica and Logan…
Long story short, Veronica can’t stop thinking about Logan and Madison going at it in Aspen. Every time she closes her eyes, that’s all she sees. Veronica finally confronts Logan who admits that he lied to her when she asked if he were with anyone while they were ‘on a break’. She’s upset about the lying, and upset about him sleeping with someone else, but she’s downright pissed to know he slept with Madison Sinclair. He should have known how much Madison, of all people, hurt Veronica. Veronica and Logan are over…well at least for now.

Veronica is having a hard time with the break up and once again Logan has retreated to eating bon bons and washing it down with Johnnie Walker. Oh and once again we are forced to see Logan looking out on to the cheesy, fake backdrop outside his apartment. (sidenote: Rob Thomas – didn’t we talk about that last week.  Either lose the fake backdrop or stop having Logan look outside.  Because it’s bad…really bad.) Between the drunk voicemails he leaves for Veronica and the wallowing in self pity in the darkness of his room, Logan is in rough shape. But this time he doesn’t have his friend Dick to pick him up and dust him off. See for some ODD reason, Dick is pissed that Logan slept with his ex. Come on now…Dick is pissed. Yeah, right?! I’m personally preparing myself for weeks of Logan’s self destructive behavior. God that kid needs some MAJOR therapy.

Also in a world of hurt is Veronica, who instead of turning to booze turns to stalking to ease the pain (it works…it does). After discovering that Madison was given a brand new Mercedes convertible for her birthday, Veronica goes a little mental and asks Weevil to help her steal the car and then crush it in a cube. Whoa, harsh…deserved but harsh. In the end, she can’t go through with it because deep down she’s better than that. Good girl Veronica. I am proud.

The Case of the I Could Care Lee…
While digging for clues in Bonnie’s case, Veronica was able to hack her way into Tim Foyle’s computer. Just as she was about to log off she saw a case file that indicated that Tim too was investigating the murder/suicide of Dean O’Dell. He didn’t have much, but one document said that there was a drunk frat boy who said he heard a gun shot late night but he had no idea what time it was. Veronica tracked him down, and worked with him to get a sense of a time line for the gun shot.

Keith learns that Dean O’Dell was driving the minivan and not the Volvo the night of his death. So how did Nish throw eggs at the Volvo then? Wait, didn’t we find this out last week? The Dean’s wife tops my lists of whodunits (for this week).  I think Nish did see the Volvo on campus. – the Volvo the Mrs. had.  Yeah, I think she was on campus after all.

Anyway, Mrs. Dean O’Dell is becoming a little clingy with Keith. When she hears someone in the house she calls Keith rather than the police. Yeah, that’s sketchy right there.

Keith comes over only to find out that it’s Mrs. D. O’D’s ex, 21 Jump Street (Richard Grieco). He’s dead broke and a meth addict which lands him on the list of possible murder suspects. Way to go Jump Street.

…and yet another episode without Wallace. This is getting ridiculous!!!

Sooooo….what did we think of last night’s eps? Come on, this is where you spill it all.

I thought it was great that Veronica’s name was “Nancy Drew” when they were at the bookmark maker’s place looking thru pictures. Classic.

I think Dick said the smartest thing he said in his entire life this episode and I was impressed. It was when he was telling Logan he was pathetic for the way he has been acting and that he needs to get back to his old self. I couldn’t agree more. I miss snarky Logan.

I am a little mad that Veronica didn’t listen to the whole voicemail Logan left. She didn’t even just hang up to hear it later, she deleted it from her phone.

“I’m Carson Drew and this is my daughter, Nancy” was the funniest line. Oh how I love when Keith and Roni work together.

I liked the episode. I thought it was the roommate when she opened the door (of course, I thought it was the preacher and then the preachers assistant and so on and so forth, but I did think it was the roommate for a few minutes)

I was a little depressed that Veronica didn’t listen to the entire message – never in my life would I have been able to delete one without listening to it.

But, seriously, the scruffy Logan was killing me. Making my heart palpitate. *sigh* For some reason he was striking me as some kind of sexy when he was being all depressed and broody in the dark and then the drunk Logan….obviously I have issues.

Was it me or did she smile a tad while listening to that voicemail?

I liked the episode, I wish there was a little more Mac and Wallace, but it had Weevil which made me happy. There were less laugh out loud moments than last weeks episode for me, but the mystery kept me guessing (first the parents, then the roommate, then tim, then…. so on and so forth) i did guess the roommate at one point, but then i changed it and went with someone else…

brooding logan is hot, but i miss the non-pathetic logan. it doesn’t do much for his character development…

i’m concerned that the Dean’s death is going to be hastily solved. they only have 3 episodes of the story left- and all we know is that he didn’t drink his liquor, weevil found him, and there was an earwitness… anyone have any guesses so far? I have one.

Jo stole my thunder on the best line part. I can’t believe the guy didn’t catch it. 😉

I had the roomie pegged from the very beginning, which was disappointing, but I still enjoyed the episode. Though mostly I think I’m just overjoyed at the fact that they didn’t go the cheesy “oh my God the lead character’s pregnant in college” route since last week’s preview had me slightly worried. Thank you, Rob. Thank you.

That whole Lead Characters Pregnant thing has already been done on One Tree Hill… 😛 The CW can’t overindulge in the teenage pregnancy thing… hahaha

what is up with some of the characters names- Phyllis? Bonnie? There are others… i was in college a few years ago, and still am in grad school, so i’m not so out of the college age loop, but i have never met anyone named phyllis or bonnie as a student… prof or cafeteria lady or library clerk, maybe, but student… no…

am i wrong (I don’t mean to offend any who happen to have those names)??

The woman who played Wallace’s mother was an attorney on this week’s Boston Legal (which is right after Veronica Mars on ABC) and also, the guy who played the “pro-life guy” played Doug on Scrubs. the actor’s name is Johnny Kastl. it’s funny how people overlap so much. especially with last week’s episode of Veronica Mars with the pimp, and last week’s episode of The Office where the same woman played a stripper.

I was annoyed that they kept calling it the morning after pill. RU486 is an abortion pill NOT the morning after pill. I guess I couldn’t focus much after that…
