Title: “Will You Be My Lorelai Gilmore?”
Original Airdate: 2.27.07
GMMR Recapper: Whirl

We open up to Lorelai and Rory, on the hunt for all things baby. Why you ask? Rory is throwing Lane a baby shower, and to be honest she’s sort of freaking out about it. She’s worried it wont go well, since Lane’s bachelorette party ended up in Zack’s Aunt’s basement. Do you notice how this season they just keep bringing up past episodes? Yeah, me too. Anyway they have baby onesies for people to decorate, even though Rory is worried they wont have enough. Lorelai figures they will since there are 40 people coming and they have 60 onesies. What if they mess up on their first try and want to start again, like how you always throw out the first pancake. Rory throws out pancakes? Why can I not envision that? Lorelai promises it will be great, and that they have everything they need. Rory’s cell rings and it’s some guy named A.J. Abrams (Shout out?! It sounds like JJ Abrams, creator of all things awesome.) from the New York Times. Seems Rory gave him a call after getting his info from Hugh (that website guy she writes articles for) and he’s finally called her back. He wants to meet her for coffee in New York the next day and she’s going to do it, even if it means things will be tight for Lane’s shower. Lorelai says she’ll take care of everything. Rory decides it’s best if she spend the night in New York at Logan’s, to make things easier. Imagine that. Having a good looking and wealthy boyfriend makes things easier. You learn something new everyday.

Lorelai’s at her house decorating while Sookie is reading an old In-Touch Weekly. Lor’s hanging a sign that says “It’s A BoyS”, so it’s safe to assume that Lane knows the sex of her babies. Sookie is amazed that Britney Spears would drive with her baby on her lap, and she’s happy to hear from Lor that Britney left Kevin. Who knew that Mr. Federline was the stabilizing thing in Britney’s life? I’m pretty sure NO ONE. They can’t find any good pictures of Lane as a child to put up around the house so Lor decides to call Mama Lane to get some, once Sookie stops sitting on the phone that is.

It looks pretty late and dark when Logan stumbles into his apartment. He’s woken up Rory who is not impressed about him stumbling in at 3am, but Logan just wants a sandwich. Rory starts making him one asking why he didn’t answer his cell all night or call her back. She was worried. Logan had gone out for a drink with his old pal Colin, his cell phone was turned off and he doesn’t get what the big deal is. Logan gets pissed off that Rory is pissed off and heads to bed, without giving any thought to the sandwich his girlfriend made for him. So much for “easier”.

At Luke’s Zack is serving customers while Kirk gets really excited, he’s a published author now. Yes folks, he wrote an ad to selling some of his mother’s furniture. She must be so proud. Zack asks Luke if he’s coming to the shower but Luke decides against it, saying it’s not really his thing. Just then Kirk notices a well-written ad selling a boat and reads it out loud. Luke recognizes the address and the boat, it’s his.

Lorelai is at Mama Lane’s to pick up the pictures only to find out that Lane’s mother won’t be attending her baby shower. It takes twenty questions for Lor to find out that Lane knows what she “did” and Mama Lane is not going to tell her what it is. So Lor heads over to see Lane who is happily nesting in, getting ready for the twins arrival. Lor wants to know what Lane and her Mom are fighting about. The answer: how to raise the babies. Lane told her mother that her kids are going to have freedom and that means school dances, rock music and no church. Her kids will not be studying the bible. Lor points out that for her children to have freedom they would have to be able to do whatever they want, including going to church, should that float their boat. Lane realizes Lorelai is right.

It’s 12pm, Logan’s just woken up and Rory is heading out for her interview/coffee talk with NY Times guy. Rory mentions that Mitch’s secretary has called three times trying to reach Logan, and she’s like to know what’s going on. He say’s its nothing so she goes to leave and then he snaps at her when she goes to answer the ringing phone. Logan apologizes right away but Rory just makes him promise to be ready when she gets back because they have to head straight to Lane’s shower.

Luke is at his sister’s place, upset that they put his boat up for sale. They’ve been storing the boat for 3 years and Luke’s never done a thing with it, this way he’d have some extra cash and they’d have some extra room. His sister doesn’t think he should be just like Dad, wasting 20 years on a boat. This angers Luke; his father was good to them. Of course he was but he just did what he always did and he never changed because he was scared to. Is Luke going to be like that? He storms off; promising to have the boat moved the next day.

Rory’s at a coffee shop waiting for the Abrams, but he said he was bald and she’s not sure what that means. Is that all his hair gone or does hair on the sides count? Good question…but I think any bald patches = bald.

Lor is back at Mama Lane’s to figure out the terms on raising the children. Mama wants them to attend bible study and never have pony rides at their birthday parties…too many flies. I agree on that note, but isn’t that taking it a bit too far? Mama Lane says it’s hard when your child rejects everything you stand for. Lor say’s that this shouldn’t be a fight that goes too far, because her own mother missed so much of Rory’s life. Lor doesn’t want Mama Lane to have to go through that. Mama’s eyes get teary, as she seems to understand. I think I just got chocked up a little myself.

Luke calls April and suggests that in the summer they go on a trip to Florida. Most kids would be thrilled to hear that their Dad wants to take them to Disney World, but not April. She can’t imagine Luke on roller coasters or having his picture taken with Mickey Mouse. No, she’s happy just doing what they always do, hanging out at the diner. It’s their thing. I think that’s unbelievably adorable but Luke seems taken aback. April say’s her Mom wants to talk to him but then she’s going to read him a story she wrote for school. She had to write a 5-page story about someone she knew, so she chose Kirk and it’s hilarious. Could I love this girl anymore? No I could not.

Lorelai has brought Mama Lane over to see her daughter but she makes Lor explain how she feels. They may not always agree but Mama wants to feel that Lane respect’s her. Lane is surprised, telling her mother that she loves and respects her. Satisfied Mamma promises to come to the shower! YAY! So excited Lane hops out of her chair, cringing from a pain in her stomach. Was it a contraction? They’re not sure so Mamma insists that they take Lane to the hospital right away.

Back home Lane’s on bed rest and none too happy about it even with Zack by her side. She blames her Mama, since she made Lane go to the hospital so now she won’t have her party. Lorelai insists that they’ll be other parties but Lane knows that Mom’s don’t have parties. Why? Because her Mom did everything for her and Lane wants to be the same way. Mama Lane promises right then and there that Lane will have her party because Lorelai will figure it all out. Not that Lor looks that enthusiastic or promising about it.

Rory’s back at Logan’s where the hung-over-wonder is wearing sweats while watching TV. Rory is panicking that he’s not ready but he’s not going. He finally tells Rory about how the company is a bust and he’s lost a whole bunch of people’s money, including his own. Rory is shocked, wanting to know when this has happened, and seems hurt when she found out it was a couple weeks ago. She tries to be positive, promising to help him figure it all out. He tells her a sunny disposition isn’t going to save him, and it’s his own fault for not doing his research. Anyway he’s not going to the shower, he’s decided to blow off some steam by flying down to Las Vegas with some friends on a private jet. Rory pretends to understand.

Kirk’s back at the diner to take a look at Luke’s boat because Luke is going to sell it but wont take anything less then 600 big ones. Kirk takes the deal and the boat is his. I’m not sure how I feel about this, is Luke growing or regressing?

It’s pandemonium at Miss Patty’s as everyone is helping set up the baby shower. Rory comes rushing in, wondering what the heck is going on. Lorelai updates her on Lane’s condition and asks her if she has good tred on her shoes. Why? Because Zack, Lane, Rory and Lorelai are pushing Lane’s bed through town while Mama directs traffic. They push her up a ramp and into her shower, and she’s got a great big smile on her face.

At the baby shower everything is going great as people mingle and Lane visits with people while lounging in bed. At the onesie painting station Lorelai is keeping things under control, even when she’s point blank asked about her and Christopher. Lor promises she’ doing okay and I believe she is, because I’ve forgotten about Chris already. Lane thanks Rory for everything and tells her all about Lorelai saving the day by getting Mama to come to the shower. Lane tells Rory she realizes that she’ll be a crazy mother sometimes and she hopes that Rory will be to her children what Lor was to her. In short: Will you be my Lorelai Gilmore? Oh God, I am not crying. I am not crying. I’m seriously crying. Rory gets chocked up as well and happily accepts from her best friend of 17 years.

Lorelai is watching the girls when Mama Lane approaches her, shoving a gift in her face. It’s a doorknob that used to belong to John Adams and it’s her way of saying thank you. It’s weird but since it’s Mama Lane I love it.

Kirks talking to Lorelai wearing a captain’s hat and tells her about buying Luke’s boat. She seriously shocked to hear the news, but I’m more in love with Kirk then ever. He named his boat “Lurk” which is a combination of both Kirk and Luke. Imagine that ladies….a Kirk and Luke combo. Actually, I think that would be creepy…so moving on. Rory pulls her Mom outside to dish about the craziness that happened regarding the Lanes and Logan. Rory is sorry her Mom got stuck dealing with that stuff and Lorelai’s sorry that Logan’s being…well…Logan-ish. They also dish about the NY Times interview and how well it went. Rory doesn’t want to get her hopes up on getting the internship she applied for because they only take 4 people from across the country. Lorelai has no doubt she will, since she is Rory. I have to agree, has the world ever denied Rory anything? Rory tells Lor about Lane’s request and say’s being Lorelai Gilmore is certainly some shoes to fill. Lor says her first “pancake” turned out just right. I think I’m crying again, how is this happening?

Rory heads inside to get the cake ready and Lorelai stays out looking at a picture of a young Lane and Rory. Okay whoever they got to play them as little kids was pretty dead on, well Lane is anyway. Luke comes up behind Lor with a present and proclaims “She(Rory) was something. Is something.” (Pssst…Luke. I heart you.) She agrees and then asks him about the boat. He admits to selling it since he knew that he would never do anything with it. He sold it and then bought a brand new one, yes all in one day. It’s bigger and has a kitchen, so he can take April on trips in it during the summer. Lorelai can’t believe he bought a boat so quickly since it’s really not like him. Luke points out that “things change”, they gaze at each other and he heads inside. She looks off into the distance and then heads in after him.

Is it just me or is this showing slowly getting better and better?

Tune In Next Week: It’s a ladies only road trip and someone invited Emily Gilmore.

Being born and raised amongst the igloos of Canada shaped Whirl’s love of hockey, beer and the warmth of the television screen. Though she refuses to wear spandex she has sworn to use her powers of sarcasm for the greater good of man kind, and disguises herself daily as a mild mannered office clerk. Oh yeah, and she’s not too bad at Trivial Pursuit. Seriously. Seriously.

I would love to read the story about Kirk. I wish they would post it online.

I thought Logan was being a jerk in this episode. I can’t believe he would go to Vegas with his friends but can’t go to this important event with his girlfriend. It’s one thing to cancel on her and stay home, but quite another to go out of town. And when she made his sandwich and he went to bed like that, I was so mad at him. I hope Rory makes him work for her forgiveness.

” it’s some guy named A.J. Abrams (Shout out?! It sounds like JJ Abrams…”
That’s EXACTLY what I thought when I heard it too!

    “…creator of all things awesome.”
Now that is the perfect description of him. Nice job, Whirl!

Yeah, I got the JJ shoutout too. 😉

For some reason now I’ve got this in my head…

    “In good times
    In bad times
Iiiii’ll be on your side forevermoooore
    That’s what friends are fooooor!”

    😀

No Jo! I’m with you on Liz, but I love TJ, he cracks me up almost as much as Kirk. When the baby monitor made a sound and he grabbed at it “Doulah alert!” or whatever he said, I was rolling.

A.J. Abrams vs. J.J. Abrams, I thought the same thing too! Great minds, etc.

There’ve been a few “tearful” moments in my favorite shows this week. Heroes, Gilmore, even Lost was pretty sentimental.
