Title: “Gilmore Girls Only”
Original Airdate: March 6, 2007
GMMR Recapper: Whirl

Rory is shopping for an “interview suit” and Lorelai is trying to guilt her into going to Mia’s wedding. Whose Mia you ask? Oh you newbie fan you, she owned the Independence Inn and was a surrogate Mother/Grandmother to our girls long ago. There has been no mention of her in years so I’m a little shocked she’s getting married, but even older people get their freak on every now and then. Rory can’t go, no matter how much her mother tries to convince her, she has so much school work and Logan may be acting like a jerk lately but he is going through something. This means she wants to stick around and be supportive of her man. Even the thrill of a road trip with her mother won’t pull her away. Lor changes her tactic and tries to convince Rory to find a job close to Star’s Hollow. Rory will go where the work is, or wherever the writers decide to send her.

“I will follow where you lead”…I always sing a long to this song. I can’t help it.

Rory’s at Logan’s place, having woken him by getting up so early to head to the library. He’s just playing around on his computer, avoiding work as always. His big plans of the day are to hang out with his friends again and Rory is not impressed. She tells him she’s probably going to head back home and he doesn’t seem to care. There’s a knock on the door and Rory answers it, too bad it’s Logan’s dad who charges in full steam. Mitch yells at his son for pulling such stupid stunts and tells him come into the office so they can tell him what his next move is going to be. Logan yells back that he’s just not another one of his Dad’s stupid employees, Mitch agrees, saying if he were he would have been fired by now. Once Logan’s dad leaves Rory ends up admitting that she agrees with Mitch, which Logan takes to mean that she’s on his Dad’s side. She tells Logan she loves him but she can’t support every stupid thing he does. He claims he just needed to blow off steam and get his bearings but Rory thinks he’s just hiding out and avoiding the issue. To put it plainly he’s acting like a jerk. Logan yells maybe that’s who he is, he’s just like his Dad and he’s a jerk. Rory agrees and storms out.

At Luke’s diner Zack is serving up customers and Kirk. Kirk who is complaining about his food and proclaiming that Lane was a better server. Luke takes Zack side so Zack invites him over for dinner. Actually he was supposed to invite Luke weeks ago but forgot so Lane thinks he’s coming over tomorrow night and who wants to upset a pregnant lady? Backed into a corner Luke reluctantly agrees.

Lorelai is showing Emily how to use another computer program but Emily is tense and annoyed. Richard is always around the house, still refusing to sign tax forms and always wearing sweat suits. Enjoy this quote if you will.

Emily: He’s beginning to be a serious pain in the you-know-what.
Lorelai: Nose? The Ear?
Emily: Will it give you that much pleasure to hear me say ass?

And that ladies and gentleman is why Emily Gilmore rocks my world.

Richard comes in looking for his putter and Lor is able to convince him to sign some forms before he runs off to practice his golf put. Rory calls her mother from a cab saying she’s down for the road trip to Mia’s wedding, explaining that after her big fight with Logan she needs to get away. Emily overhears about them driving down to Charlotte, North Carolina and knows of a spa down there that would be just the break that she needs. Rory thinks it would be great if Emily came with but, as expected, Lorelai tries to prevent it. She’s over powered and Emily is driving with them, in her vehicle of course, she wouldn’t dare be seen in Lorelai’s. ROAD TRIP!

Emily’s driving as slow as the old woman she is and Lorelai is complaining. Rory tries to distract Lorelai by working on the poem they plan on writing for Mia, since Rory used to write poems for her all the time as a little girl. Emily makes fun of Mia’s future husband’s name, which is Howard. Now I’ve never met a Howard myself but I am sure they are very nice individuals. Lorelai and Emily get into a fight over whether a window should be up or down and Emily asks how Rory is doing. Rory shares her plans of trying to get into some papers across the country and her “status” on the Logan relationship. They girls start talking about Mia again so Emily puts on a CD of show tunes. What freaks me out the most is I heard this same CD in my own grandmother’s car last week.

Lane and Zack are making jokes with Luke in a cute way and it looks like they had a good dinner. Luke has to get going since he has to open the diner the next morning but they ask him to stay. They start telling him how much he means to them, and that he’s more then just a boss to them. They start pointing out that Lane only has her Mom and Zack’s dad split when he was a kid. Luke asks them if they need money or something but they say no they want him to be the godfather to their babies. They want a strong parental for their boys and though Luke is VERY hesitant he says okay. The couple is thrilled and its high fives all around. If you can’t have Luke as the actual father of your child I think Godfather is the next best thing.

The girls have stopped at some roadside diner and Emily is on her phone planning out her spa treatments. She disgusted with the place they are eating but Lor and Rory are excited at the prospect of cheap lobster. I’ve never really understood the taste of Lobster, steak is so where it’s at. Lorelai brings up Mia again and Emily interjects wishing the girls would do some spa treatments with her. Lor shoots her mother down, saying they are committed to going to the wedding. Emily just shrugs it off and heads to the washroom, so while she’s away Rory tells her Mom to lay off the Mia talk in front of Emily. Lorelai doesn’t get the issue but Rory thinks it bothers her and she had hoped this trip would be some daughter/mother/daughter/mother bonding time. She is worried what will become of Lorelai and Emily’s relationship once she graduates and possibly moves away. Lor says not to worry, yes her and Emily have a complicated relationship but she’s a grown up and can handle it. Lorelai is describing herself as a grown up? I’ll leave that one alone.

Emily has dropped the girls off at their hotel, washing up before she heads to her resort. The phone rings, and surprise its Mia. But wait that’s not Mia! Okay not only have they gotten a different actress to play her but a younger one at that. How fracking stupid. If they insist on reviving things from the first 2 seasons I have no problem with that but could we have some consistency please? Especially since that is one of the things this show prides itself on. Thank you. Anyway Mia is happy to hear her girls are alive and well and once she hears Emily is there insists on inviting her to the wedding. Lor doesn’t want her to go, Emily doesn’t want to go but Mia and Rory are insistent. Emily is heads out angry that she has to go to the wedding, Lorelai is angry that Emily is going the wedding and Rory is happy for more bonding time. I love that Rory is being the sneaky on for a change.

First thing in the morning and Luke’s getting ready for the day so happily Zack has shown up to help out. He’s banging around and wanting to talk but Luke really just wants some peace and quiet. Zack starts talking about his dad not being around when he was a kid and then wants to know what kind of music Luke likes, saying he’s glad they can hang out. Awww….Zack is trying to bond with Luke. I feel you Zack, I’d bond with Luke all I could. Though I’d be less about the talking and more about the…well you know.

The ladies walk into Mia’s house, which is all set up for the wedding. The girls check out pictures hanging on the walls, including ones of Rory while Emily immediately starts complaining. Mia spots them with hugs all around then her and Emily shake hands. She introduces them to her Howard and the girls start bantering, mesmerizing Howard who proclaimes them just as Mia described them. It gets pretty awkward so Mia takes the girls off leaving Emily with Howard. He tries to get her a seat for the wedding but Emily heads for the back.

Lorelai is reading out her and Rory’s really really bad poem to the wedding crowd As she starts talking about their past she notices how uncomfortable and out of place Emily looks. A guy comes up to Rory, saying there is someone to see her. Low and behold its Logan, here for some old fashion groveling I am sure. She wants to know what he’s doing there but he just wants to talk, and he had to track her down since she wouldn’t answer her phone. Rory points out that she was doing that on purpose but Logan says she has to talk to him since he’s here in person. Oh Logan, do you know nothing of us woman folk? Rory can’t believe he’s doing this, trying to dazzle her by just showing up well she’s in the middle of a close friends wedding and doesn’t have time to listen to whatever it is he has to say. Howard comes up saying its cake cutting time and asks if Logan will be staying. Rory says no and heads off with Howard. Did you learn anything Logan? We woman will kick you when you’re down, especially when you deserve it.

Back at the diner the place is hopping and Zack starts freaking, seems he made Luke a mixed CD but he forgot to bring it to work. He was happy to do it since it gave him something to do while he waits for Lane to pop out the babies. Zack asks Luke on what he thinks about circumcision, because he’s not sure which road to go with that one and they have to make the decision when the babies are born. Luke says to go with his gut but then Zack starts asking about what to do when his kid falls out of tree and gashes his head. Do you let them cry or do you rush to them right away? How about you not let them in the tree in the first place. Luke pulls Zack aside, saying he knows he’s freaking out about being a Dad and Luke was there once too when he found out about April. Luke promises that Zack will find his Dad mode just like he did.

At the wedding Rory tells her Mom about Logan showing up and how he is now currently leaning against his car outside. I bet Logan does some hot leaning. I’m just saying. They realize that Emily isn’t having any fun so Rory goes to dance with Howard and Lorelai heads over to her mother. Emily is going through her schedule and waiting till she can politely leave. Some weird hippie chick named Donna shows up and she used to work with Lorelai at the Inn. Donna compliments Lorelai’s speech and says she was the perfect person to give it since Mia was like a mother to her. Poor Emily notices the comment and interrupts the conversation wanting to know where the coffee is. Donna goes off to show her so Lorelai hits the booze, and who could blame her? Mia finds her asking how things are going and says Emily is doing pretty well all things considered. Lorelai acts confused as Mia explains that it must be hard seeing the girls and her together, because of the history. Lor says her mother wanted her gone from the household but Mia doesn’t agree especially since Emily and her met. They met? When? Five years ago when Emily called her and asked for some pictures of the girls over the years they were with Mia. I hope one day Lorelai realizes her mother is not the ice queen she thinks she is.

It’s night and Rory’s headed towards a leaning Logan with cake in hand; too bad it’s for her, not him. She lets him talk and he apologizes for being immature. Rory’s still giving him the cold shoulder and he explains how when everything fell apart he felt like he was in a hole he couldn’t get out of. He realizes his Dad was right so he calmly told him that he no longer wants to work with him. He’s happy and his Dad took it very coldly but he thinks he might have seen some pride in Mitch’s eyes. Rory tells him she’s proud of him too. And I was right, extremely hot leaning.

Emily is watching them from the window and Mia can’t believe that little Rory has a boyfriend, hoping she doesn’t get her heart broken. Emily knows Rory will do the heart breaking (Case and Point: Dean) because she’s so smart, confident and just plain wonderful. Lorelai over hears this and then tells them its time to head out. Emily thanks Mia for “everything”, Mia says it was her pleasure and yes writers we get the point.

At the diner Zack has found that CD for Luke and thanks him for giving him that talk, he feels so much better about it now. Luke promises to help out when he can. All is well until the phone rings and it’s Lane, whose water has just broken. Zack starts to panic, unsure of what to do. Luke takes charge, proclaiming the place closed and telling Zack that his Dad mode doesn’t have to kick in right now, and as they head out the door Luke says the last person to leave has to turn off the lights and lock the door. I love me a trusting man.

They girls have just gotten back to the room and Emily tries to leave. Rory wants her to stay and heads to the vending machines to get some candy. Lorelai tells Emily she got Rory a suit for work and it made her imagine what it will be like once her daughter leaves, how hard it will be without her. Emily is just staring off into the distance not looking at her daughter and its amazingly well acted, because just watching her is making me well up. Anyway Emily just nods so Lorelai says she knows it was hard for her Mom when she left. It’s tense for a moment and then Lor asks her if she wants to watch “The Pursuit Of Happiness”. Emily thinks Will Smith is attractive so she’s interested. Really Emily? May I suggest “Bad Boys” the original, as there are many the nice shirtless Will shots in that one. Rory comes rushing in, excited that Lane had her babies; showing off the pictures Zack emailed her. They eat candy, watch the movie and tease Emily about her Will Smith crush, and its very sweet to watch.

It’s looking like Gilmore Girls will be on hiatus for the next while but have no fear, because you could always watch “The Search For the Next Doll”. The thrills, the drama, and Mark McGrath selling out! I’m amazed they were able to capture my own personal hell on film.

Being born and raised amongst the igloos of Canada shaped Whirl’s love of hockey, beer and the warmth of the television screen. Though she refuses to wear spandex she has sworn to use her powers of sarcasm for the greater good of man kind, and disguises herself daily as a mild mannered office clerk. Oh yeah, and she’s not too bad at Trivial Pursuit. Seriously. Seriously.

Outside of another oustanding Emily episode – did anything happen here? I found it lackluster, I even multi-tasked while watching.

But you have to love it when you see another dimension of the Emily character. Who knew she went through so much when she was apart from them? Are they trying to set us up for next year in case there is no Rory???

Seriously – wrap this show up folks – while we still love it.
And get moving on L and L would ya??

I think I read on Kirsten’s eonline blog that apparently Lauren Graham wont sign on to do the show without Alexis….so….looks like there wont be a Gilmore Girls without Alexis.

I loved the episode – but thought it was a little weird when all of sudden Rory announces the babies are born…you would think she’d be calling Laine or something. ?

Was I the only one hating Alexis when all of those suits looked fabulous on her and they were saying they weren’t quite right? Yeah, probably so. 😉

Sus – No, you weren’t the only one. I was hating her too.

“Though I’d be less about the talking and more about the…well you know.” – Listening to music???

“Emily thinks Will Smith is attractive so she’s interested. Really Emily? May I suggest “Bad Boys” the original, as there are many the nice shirtless Will shots in that one.” – I’d suggest I, Robot – GREAT shower scene!

I loved that Emily asked why Happiness is misspelled in that movie. I didn’t notice that and today I was looking at the $2 movie theater where I live and that movie is coming out there tomorrow, and it is spelled wrong. That totally made me think of that scene.
