Grey’s Anatomy Recap: Time After Time

Damn you Grey’s Anatomy! Why do you have to toy with my heart like that? Why do you have me rooting for McCheat and his McBeauty Queen? George cheated on his wife – a woman whom I have loved since her first minute on this show. I should hate George. I should want to crush him like a little bug for doing this to Callie. But for some reason I can’t hate him. Actually I loved him just a bit more after last night’s episode. Is that twisted?

If you missed it, here’s a quick recap of what went down.

Meredith’s father’s wife (not even sure I know her name…but you know the chick form St. Elmo’s Fire) has been up Mer’s ass 24/7. She’s bringing her groceries every week and stopping by unexpectadly to chat. Since no one ever hugged Meredith as a child, and because she’s dark and twisty, Meredith goes off on St. Elmo and tells her to back the hell off. St. Elmo finally puts Meredith in her place saying that she’s doing all this out of guilt, and she’s just trying to be nice so Mer better stop being rude. That hits home with Meredith and the two are off to being fast friends.

Meanwhile, McDreamy is getting desperate about getting the Chief of Surgery. Richard is reluctant to back him because of a promise he made to Ellis to take care of Meredith. The Chief knows all too well the toll that position can take on a relationship. McDreamy seems to be contemplating the job vs Meredith. Bailey tells him to always choose love over the job. I love Bailey.

Christina and Burke continue to annoy the hell out of me with their immature relationship. Christina is still trying to convince that old British guy that she loves Burke. Christina starts being nice and flirty…I know, it was bizarre. I’m not sure why Burke isn’t more pissed off that she is letting her ex get to her. But then again this is Burke and he’s not that stable when it comes to relaitonships anyway. Boring!

Not so boring is Alex and his obvious love for Ava. Ava has a new face and she’s very pretty. But see Alex fell in love with her when she was all smushy faced so this is just a bonus. Now that she is recognizable her face is plastered on TV and online. She doesn’t look like her former self, but her eyes and hair haven’t changed so someone might just recognize her. Not soon after her parents comes to claim her. Ava is overjoyed to know she has a family, a life and a history. But the reunion is short lived when the mother tells Alex that this isn’t her daughter. Ava is livid and takes it out on Alex.

Ok so here’s the god stuff. Izzie is still trying to reconnect with George (ew, not in that way…ok kind of in that way), but George is still feeling McGuilty and tells Izzie to back off. As George storms off two people approach Izzie and tell her that her 11 year old biological daughter, Hannah, is sick and in Seattle Grace for a bone marrow transplant. They need Izzie to help save her/their daughter’s life.

A shocked Izzie sobs in the bathroom and it’s Bailey that comes to check on her. Izzie spills everything to Bailey, who in turn drops everything on her plate to console and support Izzie (this is about where I start sobbing like a baby). George senses something is up and “demands” Bailey to tell him what’s going on with Izzie. Oh no he didn’t….oh yes he did. Bailey stays with Iz throughout the day and through the painful bone marrow procedures she has to go through. Later Bailey gives Meredith Izzie’s bone marrow and tells her to take it directly to the lab and to keep this quiet.

A confused George intercepts Meredith and tells her he needs to know what’s going on with Izzie. Meredith says she doesn’t know (which she doesn’t) and she can’t say anymore. George tells Meredith that he and Izzie are in another one of their stupid fights, but he can’t let that stop him from being there for her when she needs him (cue second round of waterworks) . Meredith tells George where Izzie is and he rushes up there. Bailey tries to kick him out but he’s not having it. Bailey leaves and George takes over in taking care of Izzie. So damn sweet. Oh and I guess I should say that while George is with Izzie, he missed the coffee date he set up with Callie…you know – his wife!!

After the procedure, George has to help Izzie get dressed. He just helped her slowly pull up her pants, but for some reason it was such an intimate moment between the two. I wouldn’t say it was sexual, just very intimate (again the tears). Izzie finally tells George that she misses him. She says that the sex wasn’t tragic (like the sex George had with Meredith), but it’s not the sex that she misses. She tells him she can live without the sex but she can’t live without George in her life. A confused George says that he has to leave her here and have an orderly take over. He rushes out of the room as Izzie (and I) break down in tears. But moments later he returns because maybe, just maybe she’s his lobster.

George wheels Izzie down to Hannah’s room where Izzie can watch from a far as her daughter receives Iz’s bone marrow. She’s careful to stand back as Hannah isn’t ready to meet Izzie yet. Again, a very touching moment between George and Izzie that has me hoping that these two find their way to each other. But what about Callie…I like Callie? Well, the Chief is looking to get his post-divorce game on – maybe he can get it on with Callie? No? Ok…it was just a thought.

So in closing – Burke and Christina still bother me. Alex has gone through a major transformation this year and loves babies and a woman named Ava (although he doesn’t quite realize it yet). Mer and Derek may be on the verge of some major relationship issues (but aren’t they due – they’ve been happy for a few week). George is a big old cheat and Izzie is his dirty mistress and for some reason I’m pulling for them.

Ok let’s dish…you all loving George/Izzie? Still hating him for cheating? Meredith and Derek – bad times ahead? Let’s talk.

I’m not a fan of the whole Izzie/George as a couple thing but I am happy to see them being best friends again. I don’t think Izzie’s daughter storyline should have been brought up so abruptly and now seems to be over. I am nervous for the Mer/Der problems that are looming but it should be interesting.

(By the way- I love the Friends’ lobster reference!)

God I was a wreck last night. Honestly, I feel like George/Izzy’s relationship is the only one that truly makes sense these days. And yes, GMMR, I do believe Izzy is his lobster.

Callie can go buy herself another husband. Was that mean? [/Pam]

I don’t watch the show religiously, but know I can always get a great re-cap of the episodes here.

    Kudos on the lobster remark!

    “See? He’s her lobster.”

I think that George and Izzie are going to run into major problems. I know that what George did was morally wrong, (oh yes, I am bringing morals into this), and Callie isn’t bad, and I totally feel bad for her, but I too am pulling for George and Izzie to make it.

As for Meredith and Derek, definite problems are on the horizion. He loves her, but he loves his job, probably almost as much. I think that he’ll come off as selfish in the the upcoming episodes, but I think that Bailey was right, and Derek needs to listen to him.

I have totally fallen in love with Alex and Ava. I feel bad that she blamed him for turning her “parents” away, but, I think it will eventually work out. He truly cares about her, and I love watching him mature.

God help me, I love George and Izzie. I had always wanted them to get together, although believe me adultery is NOT what I was hoping for! It’s sad that this is the way it goes down – but Seattle Grace is basically Adulterer Central, so maybe this is some sort of rite of passage? 🙂 “Seriously” – Ellis, Chief, Mark, Addison, Derek, Meredith – probably Alex at one point or another (he’s delightful, but hardly the most moral!) – Izzie and George are hardly alone here. Which is warped. But very Grey’s. I think if we can forgive Meredith and Derek (and eeeeveryone else), we can these two.

George and Izzie together is just a bad idea to add to the other bad ideas that have been going on all season. If the show remains on the track its on now, I won’t be back for Season 4. Period.

I welcome the Grey’s spin off because Shonda at least starts a show off well. I figure with the new Grey’s I have at least 2 years before it goes to shit.

    She is SO his lobster!

I didn’t want to like George and Izzie. I really didn’t! Last night show totally changed my mind. I agree they are each others lobsters.

I agree so much! Izzie and George are totally each other’s lobsters! I hate that I’m pulling for them so much, but I am. I am!

The pulling on pants scene gave me chills and I COULD NOT BREATHE. OOooh, I just love this! And George’s face when he looks at Izzie as she’s getting the bone marrow transplant… ah. This is not (just) lust. This is love that has been growing for a long time. I can’t WAIT to see what happens with these two!

I know I’m being childish, but I can’t even watch Grey’s anymore with the George-Izzie-Callie yuck. I get my Alex/Mer/Bailey fix (I still love most of the characters) from your posts.

Believe it or not I just started to watch the show this season and after having watched a show or part of a show last season I asked a co-worker who is a devoted fan if Izzie and George were a couple. She said oh no just best friends. I never bought it and although I like Callie too – Izzie is George’s lobster
