i mean at some point did one of them whisper a “karen” or “jim” or “coprerate” or even a “dunder mifflin”?
one or two of those pictures are pretty close up.
did you hear anything at all?

Listen people, we KNOW they go to NYC for the job interviews. I think Jim changes his hair to make a good impression. He’s already in with the CEO. After the interview he and Karen spend a little quality time together. Jim has made comments about how great it was that NYC was only half an hour away from their old office. I bet there’s a narration by Jim over the footage shot of he and Karen being a great couple…because of the decision he has to make. If he OR Karen get the job, things would get complicated, and like it or not…things ARE getting serious b/w Jim & Karen. Besides all that, Pam is still the wild card and a driving variable for the show. Don’t count out a decision that might have to made concerning her again.

I was thinking that yesterday when I made my message; however I forgot to add it!

Maybe they are doing some scenes for season 4 because if Rashida’s schedule is going to be busy with “The Rules For Starting Over” then they might not be sure when they can get Rashida and John together again and so they are filming some scenes in advance.

I agree that this is most likely a shot for “Brief Interviews”, which both Rashida and John have roles in. Since John is directing, it makes sense that for a scene in which he appears, he might ask Paul L. to help out behind the camera as a fill-in director. Yeah, I know BI has supposedly wrapped, but it’s John’s picture and if he decides he needs another fill shot he can jolly well set it up and do it, at whatever time it’s convenient for him and Rashida.

Maybe they had Jim and Karen staying together at the end of the season finale because the writers are clearly jerks about this (saying nasty stuff about pro-JAM fans) and then realized they’d lose about 2/3 of their fan base if they keep this stupid Karen plot line going, so they re-did the ending.

Not many people are discussing the idea that maybe Paul Lieberstein got JKras and RJo to be in a side project he was writing. To me, this seems the most likely.

Kath, I’m going with your theory #1 – pick-up shots for the finale. My guess is Jim restyled his hair for the “fancy” NYC interview, and Karen is showing him around NYC trying to convince him it “ain’t so bad”; this is either before or after their interview hence the casual clothes.

it’s picking-up shooting if anything. the shots are of them just roaming around new york and/or blocking. since they’re in nyc, it’s probably for the final or penultimate episodes. you can’t shoot NYC in CA and have it come off as being genuine.

whenever i’m in nyc, i sightsee and just walk around. what’s so unusual to think that JIM and KAREN wouldn’t sightsee in casual clothing?

When I saw filming in NYC for movies, they would close off where the filming was and let the spectators look from where it was closed off. I know exactly where this station is and I would have been there at St. Marks yesterday if I still was in town. THAT sucks.
Normally, when I would be around a subway station, unless I was looking for or expecting a person to be coming up from the subway, I wouldn’t be staring straight into the subway entrance and looking at people coming up the stairs. I think that these people knew that there was “filming” going on but didn’t know for what so they just lingered around.
I think that they are doing some external shots that they did not get to do before because of the weather and because John had to go to film his movie. Maybe there is a break in the movie filming and they just decided to do this now and add it into the season finale. Maybe they are filming a special commercial for the season finale. I do think that they are using his haircut for the movie for a change in The Office to make him more corporate. Maybe Pam or Ryan says something to him to make him think about change.
I do not think that it is extras for a DVD or anything like that because they wouldn’t bring just 2 characters back for that.
I hadn’t even heard of any rumors going on with John and Renee, but the funny thing is that when I found out that she was also in the movie, I knew that somehow she would attempt to sink her grubby claws into him and try to keep him as her own. She is just so awful.

“Brief Interviews” wrapped months ago. And I don’t think we are seeing “Toby” in those pics…I think it’s Paul, as in Paul a producer for the show.

I’m leaning towards this being a rehearsal…they go into costume, ruin John’s hair and ta da…it’s Jim and Karen.

I think this is for Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. I don’t think the purse and the watch are nearly as significant as John’s hair and Paul’s hat. Those are major, major style changes that would not be allowed on The Office.

I think they are shooting a scene for the show because well, Paul is there with and so is a camera man. I remember Greg Daniels did the same thing with Steve in season 2. Also, Rashida is wearing Karen’s purse and John is wearing Jim’s watch. If you look at his left wrist it’s the same watch he always wears on the show.

I love the idea of Jim getting a makeover because well, I’m sick of that wig he’s wearing. Also, a makeover fit in if Jim wants a fresh new start in a possibly new job. I mean he is trying to move on, whether we like it or not.

The reporter from Star described JK as “something of a lady’s man”. LOL. Maybe he is trying to dispel the rumors his own way.

so this could be for the show or it could be the extras which would make sense for the multiple takes. however, the more pictures I see of John and Rashida, the more I’m convinced that they are together in real life. don’t know though…anyways, it could be that the season finale will be like casino night in the fact that jim and pam don’t get together until the last scene. if that was true then karen and jim wouldn’t break up until later that episode. jkras is beyond adorable whatever they do with his hair, but it does look better in these pictures then it has lately on the ofice

I agree with whoever said they were probably doing a run-through instead of an actual take. It makes the most sense to me. He wouldn’t need to have his “Jim hair” for a run-through. And you just don’t show up for a corporate interview in jeans. Unless they’ve already done the interviews and are sticking around for sight-seeing.

The guy that took the pics was right there and said they did multiple takes of them coming up from the subway, Leslie, and so they were definitely filming something and not just chilling. What, I don’t know. I find that when I look at Jim at times he doesn’t even look like John and then visa versa but wow, the guy in those pictures is not Jim.

nonono. John is definently being John. He would never have that hairdue if he was being Jim, and that is definently not a Jim-gettup. As for Rashida… she and Karen do have a similar style, probabaly (besides the pant-suit thing), so I really don’t think she’s acting.
My theory: the cast finished up their shooting in New York for the season finale, but they were still there. There could be a number of reason that Paul went with the crew to NYC and now they’re done shooting and just chilling together in NYC for a drink, or coffee or lunch or something before they head back, or maybe they stayed for a day, or something.
Not that weird.

Maybe it’s a fantasy scene of Karen’s? John looks good, they are in NY & seemingly together. Maybe she’s thinking how it could be if they both got jobs at corporate, both moved and were finally together. (ie, rid of Pam.)
Or maybe they really do get closer together…there is no way Pam & Jim will finally be together–not yet, anyway. That would screw up all of the anticipation on the show.
Who knows…I definitely agree that it’s Karen, they were acting like a couple so it has to be Jim (not John) so I really think it’s a fantasy.

Wow. I don’t know what to say. John most definitely looks like John, and not Jim. But Rashida has Karen’s purse, and then with the cameras and Paul (one of the head writers) being there…. Man. Maybe Jim and Karen go to NYC for interviews, but these scenes could just be them walking around NYC before or after the interviews.

I dunno… “Jim” looks so different – are they trying to show how he’s changed, and maybe how Karen has changed him?? Or maybe this whole thing is, somehow, just for the Season 3 DVD extras. (and BTW, the pics of John/Jim smiling could be from when they weren’t filming…)

Anyway, I guess only time will tell, sadly, i.e. a month. Stupid month!

It IS too much of a coincidence that the three of them are there together, but NONE of them appear as though they are “in character”, at least clothing-wise. Everyone has already said John doesn’t look like “Jim” here, but I think Rashida looks like Rashida…not Karen. Paul could be directing or script supervising? Who knows? (b/c he doesn’t look like Toby here either.

I started to think maybe it was a shoot for “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men” b/c John is directing/acting in that along with Rashida, but then Paul shows up.

I’m totally baffled. Maybe it was a run-through for a scene. I don’t see why they would suddenly be okay with changing Jim’s hair since they’ve had him in a wig the past three episodes. Why would they go to all that trouble and then suddenly be okay with different Jim hair?

It’s vexing.

I think that Karen will get the high-up job rather than Michael, once they realize how much better she is. This will permanently seperate the two (I HOPE). So long, Karen!

None of them are in character, at all. I don’t see how this could be for The Office. I do see the camera but it could just be paparazzi.

The characters go to New York for job interviews they are not dressed for that at all. And Toby in a hat? I just can’t picture that at all.

Maybe Karen made Jim get a “corporate” haircut, which would not be a bad thing at all. But….geez, I don’t know what’s going on. I thought John finished filming weeks before the rest of the cast did???

My vote is that the three of them were just hanging out and it’s not tied to the show at all.

Oh, God, unless they were just doing a run through and this wasn’t the real thing yet. That could explain why they aren’t dressed right.

Based on the few spoilers I know, my theory ire the last few eps is that Pam tells Jim everything in Beach Games and Jim, not really believing her, decides he just can’t deal with it anymore and tries for the corporate job. Of course, he eventually comes around, realizes Pam is for real, and stays in Scranton to be with her.

But, I also thought that he and Karen might have had an argument about whatever happened with Pam which is what prompts her to try for the job. If these pics are real, then most of my theory is shot to hell.

Ok, I’m going to try not to be worried. We know they go to NYC for the interviews so, if anything, it has to do with that. Maybe those were the only scenes left to be shot.

Saw this over on NBC and have been depressed every since. Hope upon hope that this isn’t really Office footage. I agree, GMMR, that the pics show John and definitely not Jim. In S2 when Jim was shown in non-work clothes, it was a somewhat dorky striped shirt. How sad that I even know that. The dress and hair tell me that he is not in character. It’s a little harder to tell from Karen’s dress.
