A big round of applause comments to LaLa for all her fantastic work recapping HOUSE this season.  LaLa had double duty with both 24 and House recaps and I am so thankful to her for all her help.  Thanks!!

Um, what? Wait…. Really?? That’s it? So, House fires Chase randomly, Foreman leaves as planned, then Cameron resigns as well – and the last shot is just House playing his new guitar, signaling that he’s making changes… and that’s the end? They’re really going to end the season that way?? Oh no they didn’t!!

Ok, so then are Omar Epps, Jennifer Morrison, and Jesse Spencer all leaving the show?? Well, at least according to a recent TV Guide interview, Omar Epps will be back. But what about the other two? I mean, I guess we sort of got a little closure on their storylines – Chase went all zen after being fired and talked about how change is good, and then of course Cameron finally went after Chase in the end (but not before, naturally, turning him down one more time). I have to admit it was sort of cute/sweet the way she waited for him outside his door, and said, “It’s Tuesday” – because even though it was Monday, she just couldn’t wait that long. But man, as cute as that was, after being rejected constantly, I don’t know if I would have immediately gone for a kiss the way that Chase did. But I guess he must really really like her… for some reason that is escaping me now….

Anyhoo, so besides the shocking exit of all three House minions, I have to admit that I wasn’t too crazy about this episode in general. House was just being an irredeemable jerk for the whole episode, and we didn’t get much else to balance it out. There wasn’t really any witty banter between House and Wilson, and even House and Cuddy – it was mostly just Wilson and Cuddy telling House what to do. And I really missed that sparkling repartee, especially since House was being meaner than usual. Sigh.

As for the patient of the week, it was an interesting idea to bring light to those rare miracle medical cases where people “die” – their heart stops for hours and everything – and then they come back to life and are fine. Unfortunately, I don’t think they handled the subject very well. It’s such a big, crazy/amazing thing that really happens, and for which there is currently no medical explanation for, and I just felt like they rushed through it and pretty much sidelined it in favor of the plots with Foreman, Chase, and Cameron. Yes, House the atheist rejected that it had anything to do with God, and yes of course the patient and her husband instead gave credit to God… but then they just left it. They didn’t discuss it further. Plus, usually the patient of the week’s storyline reflects whatever storylines are happening for the main characters – and to me, this subject didn’t seem to have anything to do with the episode’s main theme of “change”.

Ah well. All in all, I’d say this was a really good season of House. Aside from the annoying multi-episode Tritter storyline, pretty much all the episodes really rocked. So here’s hoping for a great season 4 – and also, that Cameron, Chase, and Foreman come back to the hospital, stat!!

I agree. The whole team quitting/being fired was just strange for me. Will it be an all-new team next year? I wish I knew.

Thanks for the recap. I was underwhelmed by the finale, too. (“You can be underwhelmed & overwhelmed but can you be just whelmed?”)

It seemed weird that everyone would go and so at the end I was kind of like what? And not on the edge of my seat kind of what but more of a bored kind of what?

And I really don’t like Foreman. Really don’t like him at all anymore.

Great recap, and I agree, disappointing finale. The patient of the week story was especially interesting, in fact, it was the only reason to watch the episode. The subplots were all frustrating/annoying/downright bad. I guess they pulled the mass firing/resignations scenario just to keep us interested in seeing how it all played out, and so we will keep talking about the show over the summer. I’ll admit I almost cheered when Cameron resigned, because House had been such a jerk up to that point. Then, at the very end, he has some real human interaction with the patient of the week’s husband after Foreman and Cameron leave. I certainly will tune in to the first episode next year to see where they’re going with this. I don’t think a whole new team will work, as most of the audience has too much likeability invested in the old team (with exceptions here and there).

Great recap, LaLa. I agree. When the episode was over i was wondering how that ended up being the season finale. It just didn’t do much for me. I was annoyed, also, that all of House’s team left. Seriously, they better be back next season.

My favorite scene was when House was talking about how easy Cameron was and the camera panned to her face (which was odd in itself for a House epi) and she said, “I’m in the room, you know?” or something along those lines. Her face and that whole scene cracked me up =P

You’re right about the patient. There was very little focus on how awesome it was for her to just come back to life. It was all about the tension between House and his team. I don’t know. The episode just seemed like “eh” to me. Nothing too special for a season finale, except for the surprise of House losing his whole team =/

Anyway, i still enjoyed this season overall (though i agree–the Tritter episodes were so annoying) and i’m looking forward to Season 4 and your future recaps =D

Can they really get a whole new cast? Is that really where theyre taking it?
I mean.. they gave us chase/cameron closure and no one really cares about foreman so.. i guess so. I’m sad.

LaLa, great recap. I just started watching House this year and your recaps were a highlight. It’s such a great show. Most people I know who LOVE The Office, also are passionate about House.

I thought the camera quick pan to Cameron when House said she was easy was very Office-like.

I can’t believe it’ll be a good show with three new people. I can’t believe they didn’t advance the Cuddy/House potential relationship at all. I can’t believe Wilson and House had no witty banter. Strange for a season finale, isn’t it?

  7. Kris on May 30th, 2007 8:25 pm

Bonnie, i definitely agree about the camera pan being similar to The Office. That was the first thought that came to mind. I know what you mean about those who love The Office also loving House: both are brilliant shows ^_^

  8. Bonnie on May 31st, 2007 1:32 pm

Kris, I just can’t believe it’s taken me so long to find House!

  9. Barb on June 5th, 2007 7:46 pm

I’ve gotta say, with Foreman playing morally superior, Cameron playing the tease, and Chase playing the panting puppy all season, I’d kind of appreciate House having a new team next season. The three of them sure didn’t do anything to enhance their likability factors…for me anyway.

  10. Jake V. on June 5th, 2007 11:19 pm

So when does season 4 start! I’m addicted to this show like house is addicted to vicodin! I cant wait for season 4 to start! Thanks!!

  11. josh on June 9th, 2007 11:06 pm

i think this argument is futile, there is no way they can introduce new characters into a show after having used them for two years, they only did it to keep interest high over the break and furhthermore in order to have a storyline to lead into the new season

  12. blodwulf on June 11th, 2007 12:53 am

    You’re an idiot.

You suggest that you appreciate intelligent episodes yet claim this season ‘rocked.’ This is the worst season and the least intelligent. Social drama has been the primary focus of the season and Sherlock Holmes style mystery has been totally lost. And this talk about House being mean. What the Hell are you rambling about? House doesn’t have time for idiots (like you) because he is a genius. He is never, ever mean. He is indifferent (and no, they are not the same thing). He does his best job to solve the case- which almost always means saving a life. His cold wit depends on this personality and along with the solving of the case it is the very fabric of the show. Why you would take an issue with it is mind-boggling. You can’t truely like the show at all and I’m quite certain by your idiotic rambling that all you do is sit in front of the television and drool whilst suspecting that you must be watching something good because you are at least aware that you cannot comprehend it.

Anyway, I hope his three companions are gone for good. Their personalities all took an absurdly inconsistent change. Why they would get used to House and then suddenly not be able to stand him anymore is ridiculous. They used to be likeable but have since gotten in the way. Chase is a wuss, Cameron is a slut and Foreman, well, we all know what Foreman is.

Well, here’s to false hope- the false hope that the show will come full circle and start over with the same template it started with, rich in wit, intelligence and mystery.

  13. guitarman on June 11th, 2007 2:30 pm

    blodwulf…. are you house?

  14. Jake on June 11th, 2007 5:18 pm

    No. He’s an idiot.

  15. Fredrick on June 13th, 2007 5:29 pm

Does anyone know what song House was funkin’ out to? Is it something by Wild Cherry?

  16. Jeez on June 25th, 2007 2:21 pm

Blodwulf is absolutely correct, couldn’t have said it better myself. Disappointing season when compared to the first two, however still very watchable because of Hugh Laurie’s incredible acting skills and presence.

  17. jamrock on June 27th, 2007 11:19 pm

I can’t believe so many of you adjudge this season to be fruitless in its purpose. It was incredible and the characters of each actor added the meat to the bones of the season. I’m not particularly accusing anyone of racial prejudice, but why all the defamatory statements about Foreman. I consider him to be an incredible character, unique and wise in discretion. He’s simply the only one to not agree with House with making patients’ illnesses a medical mission, or like Camron who’s an emotional softy, or even like Chase who is a butt-kisser.

I’m excited to see what the next season has to bring and I can hardly imagine House supervising a new team. He’ll simply be hard on them because he expects them to be as competent as those before them.

Anyone has any idea when the next season starts?

p.s. The episodes with Tritter were actually annoying and somewhat unnecessary!!

  18. Emily on June 30th, 2007 12:08 pm

Oh come on, Foreman, Chase and Cameron will be back for sure!! You all know it. The CIPA patient was FANTASTIC! It was just so cool to recognize a disease almost no one in the world has!! And I really did like the one afterwards with the Piano playing guy, I just felt happy for him at the end, cause at first I felt really sorry for him. He was just so caring and gentle. I HATED Tritter to the max, I wish he’d just shove off! When I first saw him I thought he looked like a pathetic puppy. What about that jerk of a kid? ERR!

  19. Alyson on July 12th, 2007 10:09 pm

Season 4 starts on September 25th. The season 3 finale was so boring and weird. The season 2 finale was so much better.

  20. Lily on July 13th, 2007 6:15 pm

I hate Tritter. He’s annoying and should go to hell. The season 3 finale was not what I was expecting, but it was still good. Season 2 finale was *much* better. I, personally, was sad to see Foreman leave. I foresaw Cameron’s resignation and Honestly, I knew the team was going to crack soon. I’m also disappointed that Jesse Spencer is leaving. He’s sexy. 🙂

  21. me on July 15th, 2007 4:09 am

I agree with Alyson season 2 finale was much better, but blodwulf ur an idiot sorry..
anyway 4 those cuddy/house shippers the writters said they are most likely puttin a house/cuddy ep in. YAY
i rekon no one is leavin seriously no show gets rid of 3 main characters. they probably just did so ppl wouldn’t start losin interest or somethin, coz gotta admit some of the eps werent that great.
as 4 the season finale i liked the theme ‘change’ i rekon it was cool my fav scene was at the end with cameron and chase!!!!!!! AWWW! ‘its monday’ hehe
does anyone no when season 4 comes out on in Australia?

  22. Goat on July 16th, 2007 9:37 pm

Frederick – The song was not by Wild Cherry (I thought so too), but rather The Commodores. “Slippery When Wet”.

  23. oomu on July 22nd, 2007 6:00 am

I loved the 3rd season. but I’m with blodwulf.

House is _never_ mean. he is cold because he has to be “pure” in his medical work. and of course he is a jerk 🙂

but the 3 others characters changed in the season. radically and the most weird is Foreman. Foreman and Cameron cannot work with House. it’s obvious and still the situation are forced.

Chased is fired because it is the end. Chase is complete, well trained. nothing else to say.

that season was more about the characters than the medical situation but it was always “sherlock holmes”. in the end I thought it was a solid season.

and the last episod was good. House was puzzled and at last, there are necessary _change_.

The team couldn’t work because of the change of the characters. Foreman is egocentric, totally wrong about House and in the end just a whining kid. he’s not ready to support his own decisions. not a great doctor.
Cameron is also weak and morally wrong. Choosing who to care because of some weird prejudices. not a sympathetic doctor.

Chase is professional, nothing else, and it’s why House fire him. Chase is fine. the team is dead, so Chase can go out to look for a better position as doctor.

  24. mike on July 24th, 2007 11:22 pm

All i know is they all come back. I saw a small interview with Chase. I guess House starts off interviewing people for his team. But ends up he has to beg Chase Cameron and Foreman to come back which they do.

  25. Garry on July 26th, 2007 10:15 am

Well, am i the only one who actually thought the House/Tritter plot was amazing – at some point uz all wouldve thought- damn!! House is a goner!! It showed that House can mess up and although his behaviour seems to be nesscessary for his genius – it couldve landed him in jail. Also gave you an insight to how bad his drug problem was/ is.. is he really in that much pain?? why did he lie about his cancer??(or lack of..) rehab?? The fact is that season 3 has been the most important of them all!! – House doesnt even care for himself – no woman – no friends (Wilson doesnt count- he is suck with House) and he keeps chucking back the Vicodin

House/Cuddy will happen, i fore-see House braking down and Cuddy will be there for him. House has a tortured soul – we know – but since House is never personal – we never know how bad!

Chase/Foreman/Cameron maybe back but not as part of the team – that can never happen because of the “CHANGE” but that doesnt mean they wont fixture at sum point.

The first two seasons were purely medical mystery but the third season changed the tone – we learned more about House and the others, so following the trend – next season could either be season 1 with different cast or………….. the last season where House doesn’t hav Cuddy to help him out next time and he gets jailed or OD’s. Hope not but i honestly think the show cant last much longer on purely medical mystery – maybe that why season was so different and season 4 will hav new cast.

Season 4 starts on the 25th of September. CAN’T WAIT!!!

  27. Alli on September 17th, 2007 6:14 pm

i’m a little dissapointed with the cameron storyline. for the first 2 seasons i really liked her and i was hameron all the way.. but now i’m not so sure. the writer of this colomn (i love it btw) seems to have gone from liking her to hating her, and im just wondering if anyone else is in a similar predicament.
