I’d rather watch a spinoff call “Halpert”. But only after Dunder Mifflin closes it’s doors for good (hopefully a long time from now).

Dwight’s a great character, don’t get me wrong, but a show just with him? That way too much Dwight. The reason he’s funny is because he’s so over the top and strange compared to the other characters on The Office, but I absolutely would not want to watch a crap spin-off show that’s just about him. He’d get real old real quick, and I wouldn’t be able to handle getting sick of Dwight. I heart Dwight.

I am all for a Dwight spinoff after the show is over. I strongly doubt Greg Daniels would even consider it as an option while the Office is still on the air though

That would be like removing Chandler in season 3 of “Friends”. It wouldn’t have been the same. Agree with everyone else’s points: a whole ep of Dwight? “The Office” is just finding it’s legs (ala “Friends” & “Seinfeld”), throw off the whole vibe of the show without him.

Ick… that’s all I’ll say.

Dwight is funny, but a spin-off of the Office (especially while the Office is still airing new episodes) would just be bad and make people remember the Office as a worse show because of the horrible spinoff that would obviously try to stay hip with various celebrity cameos that don’t really make sense with the plot.

I for one wouldn’t watch it. It’d just be like Joey. I LOVED Friends, still do. I own all 10 seasons and many books, I’m a huge fan. But Joey? No way. Dumb. I would NEVER watch a show that was just Dwight. It’d make me too sad.

When (many many years from now) the Office is winding down and closing up shop this maybe should happen. Maybe. And so much of the Office is the amazing writers so if all of them went from the Office after it ended straight to Dwight Schrute: One Crime at a Time or whatever then I bet it would be great, but both the shows going at once? I don’t think there’s enough talented people in the world to keep both amazing. But this is probably just a rumor…they wouldn’t break up such an amazing cast at their prime.

I’m not sure how I feel about this…

On one hand, it would be devastating if Dwight was removed from the original completely, but on the other hand, there is a lot of potential in Dwight as his own character, and just off the top of my head I can think of certain things they could do that would be hilarious.

It might work *only* if it happened after The Office ends. Before then — no way. I love the ensemble cast so much it’s hard to think of only seeing Dwight and not knowing exactly what Jim and Pam, et al. are still up to…maybe if Jim and Pam bring their kids by for a visit regularly it could work…a new generation to mess with Dwight.

This is a very very bad idea, either now or in the future, even when The Office is over. As much as I love Dwight, I don’t think I’d want to see any of the characters on their own apart from everyone else. The reason this show works so well is that they have such a great ensemble. I would rather see Rainn in a different role on TV (after The Office is off the air, of course).

If this is really something Ben Silverman is considering, I have to say he isn’t off to a great start. I also heard he wants to get Rosie O’Donnell in her own talk show and create a new game show or something. I think Rosie should do other projects and not be on a talk show again, and do we really need another game show? I was going to give Ben Silverman the benefit of the doubt since he’s a producer of The Office but so far I’m not seeing any great ideas from him (if all of these rumors are true).

I would worry that this would ruin a wonderful thing, even if done after The Office is over. It’s a pessimistic “spoils the bunch” theory, but I hope Rainn was just kidding!

That would be ok if it happened after the show was over. But while Michael, Pam, Jim are still on the show, I dont think they should take Dwight away. Wouldnt be the same.

NOPE. We won’t let this happen, he cannot leave the show. This is not like Greys, where Addison was never a main character to begin with. Maybe when the show is over, ya give him a spin off. I say if this goes forward, we pull a Jericho-fan move and flip out to NBC until we get our way!!!

HATE. I’m so over networks breaking up shows and characters for dumb reasons. The Office is great TV because all these characters are interacting TOGETHER, not off in their own little worlds.

This makes me wonder if FOXNews is in contact with Ben Silverman, or if they’re only going on the words of Rainn Wilson. Because, having seen a lot of hilarious interviews with Rainn, this sounds like just the sarcastic humor we love him for.

If the rumors are true (and not Rainn-started), I’m not sure how I feel about an Office spin-off. My instant thought is no way. I love Dwight, but I don’t know if I could take 30 minutes of a show based solely on Dwight. He’s only so awesome because of his interactions with the other characters.

I REALLY hope this is just a rumor and doesnt happen. The show is only 2.5 seasons old, and just now getting a bigger following. Why take one of the main characters off of it? If this happens in 3 years, then whatever, but right now I hope they dont jack around with what they have going.
