NBC Wooing Jon Stewart - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

NBC Wooing Jon Stewart

June 18, 2007 by

NBC big wigs recently wined and dined Jon Stewart and his agent James Dixon in an effort to let the host of THE DAILY SHOW know that he has options if and when he ever decides to leave Comedy Central. Stewart is under contract with Comedy Central through 2008.

Moving to a mainstream network might be a great move for Jon Stewart, but I’m selfish and I want him to stay at Comedy Central and with The Daily Show. There is no way The Daily Show will be the same without Stewart at its helm.  Please don’t leave The Daily Show Jon!

I think that’s a big mistake. Jon Stewart has finally found his niche and I’d be concerned that NBC would eff it up. I loved the Daily Show with Craig Kilborn and didn’t think anyone could do better than him and I was wrong, so I’m not concerned so much for the Daily show as I am for Jon Stewart’s career. Cable seems to fair better for comedians who want to do their own material without being so censored.

I think Stewart must enjoy the creative control & ability to pretty much say anything he wants at the Daily Show. There’s no way he’d have that freedom on any network show. Can you imagine him being allowed to call Robert Novak a d-bag at NBC?

I can’t imagine Jon Stewart doing a talk show like The Tonight Show, even though I do remember he had his own talk show before The Daily Show. I’d never been a regular TDS viewer before but I’ve really gotten into the show over the past month. I think Jon’s perfect in the format of TDS, though I’d understand if he wants to do something different at this point in his career.

But, I definitely would not want to see NBC get rid of Conan in order to bring over Jon, which is also what I’ve been hearing.

Yeah, I remember watching Jon Stewart’s talk show pre-Daily show. I liked it, but I would be devastated if he left TDS to go back to something like that.
