THE OFFICE Season 3 on DVD

June 22, 2007 by

We have a release date for Season for of THE OFFICE on DVD.  According to TVShowsonDVD.com get ready to relive Season 3 of the funniest show on TV on September 4th.  Based on previous DVDs and some comments made by the cast we can all look forward to deleted scenes, gag reels, cast commentary and more.  More news as it is offered.

So here’s where the controversy begins.  Take a look at the front cover of the DVD.  Prison Mike?  Really?  And Karen and Andy get center stage over other Dunder Mifflinites (yeah, I’m talking about Angela).  Hmmm.

I actually kind of like that Prison Mike is on the cover, but it probably looks especially strange to people who haven’t seen that episode or don’t watch the show regularly. I also agree that maybe some of the other Office cast like Angela and maybe Melora should have also been on the cover, but I do think that Ed and Rashida being on the cover makes sense. They both were significant additions to the cast and their characters made a big impact in Season 3.

In any case, I cannot wait to hear all the commentaries and see the extras on the DVD! I heard that Rashida was part of at least one commentary and I’m hoping Ed also did as well. I’d really like to see every cast member on at least one commentary – I don’t think we’ve had one with Creed yet?

Yeah I don’t hate them on the cover but Rashida Jones wasn’t even a series regular this season. Not a biggie, I’m not losing sleep over it 🙂

I too can’t wait for the commentaries. I really hope that John and Steve were able to participate more than they did on the S3 DVDs.

Also, at Paley I was with another Office fan talking to Greg Daniels and we both mentioned to Greg that sometimes less is more when it comes to the commentaries. Having 12 people in the room during some ep commentaries last season was a little much. I wonder if that changed at all on this DVD.

Thanks KKras! I think Prison Mike is a bit odd on the cover but it’s still funny all the same. I love that they are still trying to cram Ryan in there. I think Karen is grabbing Jim’s ass in the pic, no? Just kidding.

I agree that prison mike would look really weird to people who have missed that episode or never watched the show. But it’s still sort of cute. And even having B.J. on the cover sort or annoys me because although he’s a “main character” angela, melora, and even creed (haha.. i wish HE was on the cover) have scenes that stand out so much more prominently.
And also.. I’m fine having Rashida on the cover becuase she was obviously a huge factor in this season.. but Ed was actually GONE for like.. 2 months.
maybe theyre (angela, brian, melora) all on the back? Do you have a picture of the back cover?

    nooooooo!
    karen took angela’s spot?!?!
    no!!!!

    noooooo karen!
    nonononono!

i knew something like this would happen.
    =[

Can’t wait!!! I want to see the gag reel so badly, Jenna said that it’s hysterical. I can’t wait, and I like the cover, I think it’s funny to have Prison Mike. hehehe September 4th!! Wahoo!!

  7. Sarah on June 22nd, 2007 12:00 pm

WTF is up with Prison Mike? Oh well. At least he’s not eating gruel sandwiches and omlettes! I’m just extremely suprised that Angela is not on the cover. I feel like her character was much more prominent this season. I do understand why Ed and Rashida are there–I mean, they are a huge part of what differentiates Season 3 from the other two. But no Angela? tisk tisk.

I say scrap this cover and just put giant picture of Creed.

If the gag real on the DVD is half as funny as the one they showed at Paley then it’s going to be dawesome. All I want to see is the outtake where Jenna says to John, “I love you” and John falls to the ground. Aw.

  10. tara on June 22nd, 2007 12:31 pm

yeah i agree GMMR. I was over Karen and Andy in The Convict. If any supporting actors are on the cover it should have been the accountants, or phyliss & stanley, or Creed! Not those 2.

  11. Amy on June 22nd, 2007 12:42 pm

Hey, GMMR, that is great that you mentioned to Greg Daniels about maybe not having so many people doing the commentaries at once! I hope they listened to you. I just put on the Casino Night commentary again and it’s not that informative. Jenna had to totally interrupt people to say something significant about the final scenes between her and John, hello?? That was far more interesting than hearing certain actors go on and on about cameras and technical stuff. (I sound grumpy, but really it’s all good.)

  12. CrazyGringa on June 22nd, 2007 12:45 pm

I definately agree that Angela should have been on the cover instead of Rashida. Rashida’s not even a regular!

And those who are wondering who is doing the commentaries, Officetally has all the commentaries and who’s in them listed on her site, as well as all of the other extras on the DVD.

  13. Lauren on June 22nd, 2007 1:05 pm

UGHHHHH….I was just telling my friend the other day that they need to make Angela the 5th lead and now she’s not even on the cover of the DVD? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

  14. mg714 on June 22nd, 2007 1:20 pm

Just went to see the extras list on Officetally – I do wish they had commentaries for every episode (I know I’m greedy) but the ones they do have look good. I’m glad to see my hopes were met and that Ed Helms will be on a couple of the commentaries, but it’s too bad Steve couldnt’ do at least one commentary due to his busy movie schedule this summer. I wish Jenna could have been on the commentary for Beach Games, but I do understand that they were doing these commentaries around the time she just got injured. I’m happy at least that both she and John will be on the commentary for The Job! I cannot wait to get this DVD in my hands!

  15. Lauren on June 22nd, 2007 1:52 pm

So I’ve had some time to think it over and I guess it makes sense to put the 5 principles and the the two new characters, cause once you start down the road of secondary characters it gets tricky..”If we put Angela we should probably put Kevin…and then I mean if we have him we need Stanley…and Phyliss…Kelly…Creed….Toby…” which I guess could get messy. I wonder if the other characters are on the back, or when it folds out?

  16. Jo on June 22nd, 2007 2:22 pm

You know, if we the fans didn’t already love the Office cast enough, we gotta get them serious props for the AWESOME commentaries. I do it just for us AND they make them hilarious.

And maybe the rest of the cast is on the back of box?

  17. Jo on June 22nd, 2007 2:25 pm

Ugh. typo. I started to say “I don’t think they get paid, they do it just for us.” but my thoughts were lost in dictation.

  18. Diana on June 22nd, 2007 2:31 pm

Hmmm….not really liking that Ed & Rashida made the cover but the rest of the supporting cast didn’t. That irks me. Also don’t like Pam’s photoshopped smile…not cool.

Haven’t decided if I like Prison Mike on there yet.

    But overall it looks good.

  19. Whitney on June 22nd, 2007 2:47 pm

I with you GMMR. I’m not crazy about Prison Mike, Karen or Andy gracing S3’s cover.

I don’t know why they couldn’t just use the promo shot from the beginning of the season that featured the entire Scranton branch. I mean, is this not an equal opportunity workplace?

  20. Lizzie on June 22nd, 2007 4:34 pm

I really like Prison Mike as the cover, it really shows the whole idea that this show is not about a normal office as it appears to be. I am so excited for the commentary on “The Job” and the gag reel!

  21. MozartsFriend on June 22nd, 2007 6:26 pm

I think having Prison Mike on the cover is great! It’s like a huge shout-out to Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who are so incredibly supportive of that show without stepping on the toes of the US producers. I hope they get a chance to write another episode for S4!

  22. HealthcareHottie on June 22nd, 2007 6:29 pm

If this is anything like the S2 DVD set, there could be other characters featured when you fold it out. I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt until I see the DVD set for myself. I can complain then if there aren’t any other pics of other cast members.

I’m just dissapointed that there are commentaries on only 8 of the episodes. How could they not do a commentary on Branch Closing and The Merger?

  23. Michele on June 22nd, 2007 6:54 pm

Any word yet on whether the newpeat/producers cut footage will be added as an extra or included in the episodes?

  24. Team Pam A.K.A Stamford Worker on June 23rd, 2007 4:14 pm

I don’t LIKE Andy or Karen on the cover but i can see how it made sence to have them there. They were a huge part of S3 (But Angela would have been better!)

  25. Laura on June 23rd, 2007 4:37 pm

They probably figure that Rashida’s going to be a really big star down the road and having her on the cover is going to sell more DVDs. I agree that Angela is such a big part of the magic of The Office that I would have liked to see her on the cover. MORE ANGELA!!!!

  26. John Darc on June 23rd, 2007 6:10 pm

well guys, when it comes down to it, who had a bigger role in Season 3? Karen? or Kevin? Karen, however crappy her character was as a love interest for Jim/foil to Pam, was a more important character than a Kevin, or an Angela, or a Phyllis, or Stanley.

It already boggles the mind that Ed Helms still has a job on this show. Sure, he’s a good guy, but Andy needs to leave. I dont want a Simpsons-esque cast on the Office. This show already wore my patience thin this season. Let’s hope season 4 can improve on what was one of the most uneven seasons of television ever made.

  27. Billiam on June 23rd, 2007 7:31 pm

I have no problems with Rashida or Helms; they both were great in my opinion (I see that many disagree). And they’re somewhat well-known names.
The one least deserving to be on the cover is probably Ryan. He really isn’t much, if any, more important than any of the other supporting cast. I would however, have smiled if, instead of just him standing there (looking very much like he was photoshopped into the picture), he was being hugged by Kelly, with appropriate expressions on both their faces.

  28. Christina on June 23rd, 2007 8:26 pm

    Does it really matter?

  29. Amy on June 24th, 2007 2:24 am

The Convict was the WORST episode ever! Seriously! I hated Prison Mike… I’m not even sure if I want to buy the DVD, this season was so sub par. 🙁 I miss the feel of Seasons 1 & 2…
