Dirty Sexy Money

Premiere Date: Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Airs: Wednesdays @ 10pm on ABC

Power, privilege and family money are a volatile cocktail.Living proof of this are the Darlings of New York City, so absurdly wealthy, they put the “upper” in Upper East Side. This preeminent family are always getting mixed up with the wrong people and finding themselves in the middle of bad situations. It’ll take a miracle to take care of the legal and sometimes illegal needs of the Darling family. That miracle comes in the form of Nick George.

As a boy, Nick watched his father surrender his freedom and family as the Darling’s trusted consigliere. Nick grew up in a troubled household where he was always second to the overpowering Darling family. Burned by his own boyhood encounters with them, he vowed never to follow in his father’s footsteps. The idealistic Nick did a 180-degree turn and became a lawyer for the disadvantaged. After the mysterious, sudden death of Nick’s father, family patriarch Tripp Darling offers Nick the opportunity to inherit the responsibility of protecting the Darlings’ secrets. The job, with an ungodly salary, will allow Nick the freedom to be an altruistic do-gooder. But he discovers all too soon that his new position requires him to be an all-around problem fixer, hand-holder, therapist and public relations expert.

What a completely awesome surprise this show was to me. Despite receiving the pilot a few months ago, I actually didn’t make a point of watching it until later this summer (my bad), but since then I’ve watched it 3 or 4 times. Yup, I loved this dirty sexy treat. DIRTY SEXY MONEY is campy and salicious in the best way possible. I loved every single minute of the pilot. You will love to loathe the morally corrupt but good-in-their-own minds Darling family. The casting was inspired which is important, because handled by different actors these grandiose characters could be cartoonish. Donald Sutherland is wonderful as the Tripp, the Darling patriarch – he’s one of those brilliant characters that is so ambiguous that you never really know just what’s really going on in their minds (think Ben from “Lost”). I missed the boat on SIX FEET UNDER but I see why Peter Krause had such fans – he’s fantastic as the conflicted Nick George.

The pilot is jammed packed as it’s crucial that the viewer meet the entire Darling family so I’m anxious to see the pacing of future episodes, but anxious in a good way…as in I can’t wait until next week!! Not only does this DIRTY SEXY MONEY make my Season Pass on TiVo, it also makes my list of Top 5 Fall shows. This is a must watch!!!

Peter Krause as Nick George Donald Sutherland as Tripp Darling Jill Clayburgh as Letitia Darling

Billy Baldwin as Patrick Darling Samaire Armstrong as Juliet Darling Seth Gabel as Jeremy Darling

So Say We All: YOUR Take on TUESDAY Night TV

GMMR: So Say We AllOnce again it’s your time to weight in on the new Tuesday night fall lineup. Did you catch the premiere of REAPER? What about CANE? Will either be added to your personal Fall schedule or do you need a few more episodes until you make that important decision?

And what about the old but new again shows that premiered last night? Tell me you loved HOUSE as much as I did?! I’m not sure Dr. Gregory House needs a team. I mean with all the janitors, cafeteria workers, and electricians around I think he’ll be just fine. I think last night was perhaps my favorite episode of HOUSE ever. Torturing Wilson by threatening to erase his TiVo? Awesome!!

I caught just a bit of DANCING WITH THE STARS last night, but only when I was flipping through the stations (once again I beg that hotels start offering in-room DVRs). That Cameron Matheson guy is hot and I expect him to go far based on the fervor of soap opera fans alone (we do remember Kelly Monaco’s big win in S1, right?). And how about that model…I think his name was Albert? I love that he’s qualifying as a “star” these days….what does it take? He had the pelvic action going on so much so that I don’t remember seeing him dance much. I can’t say that I’ll be watching this season (no time) but I like to check in every once in a while. Team Jennie Garth!!!

Although we don’t chat about these shows much on GMMR, feel free to talk about BONES, NCIS, Law & Order: SVU, BOSTON LEGAL or any of the other shows you watched last night. Just because I don’t talk about it doesn’t mean you can’t.

P.S. Leave a comment and let me know how you feel about keeping a daily “So Say We All”post where you can talk about all the shows from the previous night?  It’s something I thought I would try out as I wanted a forum where you all could share your opinions…even if the show isn’t covered on GMMR. Keep it or ditch it?  Be honest.

Keifer Sutherland Arrested

September 25, 2007 by

Jack Bauer, 24Come on Jack Bauer, you know better than the drink and drive. The 24 star was arrested early on Tuesday morning after allegedly blowing twice the legal limit when cops pulled him over. Sutherland was released this morning on $25,000 bail. Keifer and I were hobnobbing together last night at the Fox Fall premiere party at the LA club, Area. And by hobnobbing I mean I saw Keifer standing in the corner and I said “oh look, there’s Keifer Sutherland.” I can’t say that I saw Keifer with any booze, but then again I could have been distracted by the wine I was throwing down (and paying for this morning).

Jack Bauer – come on buddy, pull it together.

So Say We All: YOUR Take on Monday Night TV

gmmr_logo_large_working.pngWhat a week it’s been already and it’s only Tuesday morning. I’m actually in LA right now and as much fun as I’m having, it’s putting a wrench in this whole TV watching/blogging thing that I do. I’d be lying if I was saying that I wasn’t a tad bit overwhelmed just trying to keep up, but I’ll do what I can.  Just stick with me, ok?

Just because I’m not finding enough hours in the day to write about each new show, it doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear what YOU think. So what did you think of Monday night’s big premieres?

Did you catch The BIG BANG THEORY or JOURNEYMAN? If so, what did you think? Are these shows you’re going to check out again? Should your fellow GMMRers use their TiVo space for these new shows or are they DOA?

And as always, feel free to chit chat about your returning favorites including HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (still haven’t seen in yet…so sad), PRISON BREAK (I was at a party with T-Bag last night, and no matter how nice he is, he still creeps me out), HEROES (it’s killing me that I’m going to have to wait a few days to see this one) or any of the other shows that premiered last night.

CHUCK Recap: “Pilot”

CHUCK Recaps

You first met her during her now infamous “Age of Love” recaps, and now she’s back to take on “Chuck”.  Ladies and gentlemen, a round of applause for SB!!!

Read on for SB’s thoughts on the pilot episode and the you be the critic…share your thoughts on the pilot. If you missed last night’s premiere episode, NBC will showing an encore on Saturday @ 9/8c, or you can click here to head over to NBC.com to watch it for free.

Episode: “Pilot”
Original Air Date: 9.24.07
Recapper: SB

So as some of you may know from my comments here and there, I have been avoiding Chuck until premiere night so I could let the anticipation and excitement build. Seriously, knowing that it’s premiere week makes Monday so much easier to get through! And now there is Chuck, which will hopefully make all Mondays easier to get through. I really like how they scheduled this show, with it leading into Heroes, since you’re already ready for action, but it’s like a light, delicious appetizer. Of course, this implies that Heroes is the “main course”, and maybe it is for some people (Billy), but I am one of those people who regularly orders appetizers for dinner, so suck on that.

So let me just tell you in advance that I don’t put too much stock into pilots. I think it takes shows a little while to catch their footing and to develop characters and to get all of the expository crap out of the way. I’m sure that Chuck is no different. In a nutshell, Chuck seems (from the way they filmed the scenes, in my opinion) to have some social anxiety and isn’t good with the ladies. His sister is throwing him a birthday party, which he is trying to sneak out of with his geeky friend Morgan (as Billy put it, “Poor man’s Jimmy Fallon, meet poor man’s Jason Schwartzman) when his sister catches him and makes him go out to the party to pick up chicks. He then talks about his ex and when asked about his old college roommate speculates that he thinks he’s an accountant or something. We cut to his old roommate, Bryce, in a room lined entirely with screens and with the caption “(not an accountant)”. Funny. Bryce is bloody and there’s an action sequence, blah blah chasing, and he e-mails something to Chuck from a little handheld device before he is shot and killed and his little computer fries. Chuck gets the e-mail, watches it all night long, apparently against his conscious will, and proceeds to have little flashbacks of the video when something triggers it, a la Zoolander.

It still saddens me to post a Tuesday night TV lineup without Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars.  A moment of silence, please…thank you.

In the grid below, the shows marked with the GMMR’s picks means that I’m planning on watching it and probably talking about it on GMMR.

Tonight we welcome back some old friends and meet some newbies as the first official Tuesday of the Fall season is upon us. Lots of TV to watch and as always I encourage you to watch as much as you can. But if you have to be selective may I encourage you to check out the premiere of REAPER on The CW and you must, must, must watch the season premiere of HOUSE tonight….so good!! What will you be watching tonight?

Reaper | Series Premiere | 9pm on The CW
Reaper (CW) A slacker becomes a bounty hunter for the devil when he finds out that his parents sold his soul to the devil before he was born. Gotta hate when that happens. In tonight’s premiere, a pyromaniacal demon is sought and must be captured. I really think this one is worth checking out. (GMMR Fall Preview: Reaper)

Cane | Series Premiere | 10pm on CBS
Cane (CBS) Jimmy Smits and Hector Elizondo star in this drama following a Cuban-American family with a rum and sugar business in Florida. It’s run by patriarch Pancho Duque (Elizondo), who, in the opener, announces that his health is failing.

House | Season Premiere | 9pm on Fox
“Alone”
House is working solo (with some diagnostic help from a hospital janitor) as Season 4 begins. While Cuddy and Wilson nag him to hire a new team, he must treat a young woman who was injured in an explosion. But her injuries aren’t what’s killing her.

I have to take a minute and encourage you to ALL check out tonight’s season premiere of HOUSE. I watched the first two episodes yesterday and let me tell you they are FANTASTIC. Tonight’s episode was beyond good and so frakkin’ funny – I really think you are going to love it. Hugh Laurie is always amazing but tonight he really shines.

Dancing with the Stars | 8pm on ABC
The first night of dancing for the six male contestants: Helio Castroneves, Mark Cuban, Cameron Mathison, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Wayne Newton and Albert Reed.

NCIS | Season Premiere | 8pm on CBS
“Bury Your Dead”
In the fifth-season opener, the team has a devastating confrontation with La Grenouille (Armand Assante) that turns deadly.

Bones | Season Premiere | 8pm on Fox
“The Widow’s Son in the Windshield”
Brennan and Booth investigate a community suspected of having cannibalistic tendencies in the third-season opener. Meanwhile, Angela hires a private eye to find her ex, so she can get their marriage annulled.

The Unit | Season Premiere | 9pm on CBS
“Pandemonium”
Part 1 of 2. The third season begins with Jonas being hunted by a government assassin while on the run in Panama. In Washington, D.C., Col. Ryan tries to learn who is behind the attempt to dismantle the Unit.

Boston Legal | Season Premiere | 9:30pm on ABC
“Beauty and the Beast”
In the fourth-season premiere, John Larroquette joins the cast as senior partner Carl Sack, who immediately clashes with Denny after the latter is arrested. Meanwhile, Shirley needs Alan’s help when a university wants a donation.

Law & Order: SVU | Season Premiere | 10pm on NBC
“Alternate”
Season 9 opens with the mystery surrounding a woman (Cynthia Nixon) with multiple personalities who may have harmed her infant daughter. As Stabler and Benson investigate the case, they discover the woman herself may have been abused as a child.

Fall Preview: THE BIG BANG THEORY

Filed under The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory (CBS)

Premiere Date: Monday, September 24, 2007
Airs: Mondays @ 8:30pm on CBS

Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant physicists, the kind of “beautiful minds” that understand how the universe works. But none of that genius helps them interact with people, especially women. All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny moves in next door. Sheldon, Leonard’s roommate, is quite content spending his nights playing Klingon Boggle with their socially dysfunctional friends, fellow CalTech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. However, Leonard sees in Penny a whole new universe of possibilities… including love.

I’m always cautious to pan a new show because what is funny to some people is another man’s “Two and a Half Men”. THE BIG BANG THEORY offered a few laughs, but I personally found them a bit on the cheap side. This is another show this season cashing in on the popularity of the dorks, nerds, geeks – whatever you wan to call ’em. But these guys were almost caricatures. Actually that could be said for all the characters to this show. This is a straight up sitcom. There’s not subtly to the writing or the acting. I’m not putting this show at the bottom of my list because I think there’s a certain audience out there that might really embrace this type of humor. But I can’t recommend that you take the time out of your TV time to watch it – not when it’s up again CHUCK. (Oh and let’s hope that this show doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing Johnny Galecki showing up as Trouty on MY BOYS…I love Trouty!)

Jim Parsons stars as Sheldon in THE BIG BANG THEORY Johnny Galecki as Leonard in THE BIG BANG THEORY Kaley Cuoco as Penny in THE BIG BANG THEORY Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz in THE BIG BANG THEORY Kunal Nayyer as Rajesh Koothrappali in THE BIG BANG THEORY

John Krasinski Shirtless in OFFICE S4 Promo

Dear Greg D., OFFICE writers, NBC promo dept and Mr. & Mrs. Krasinski,
Thank you. That is all.
Sincerely,
GMMR

All kidding aside, we’ve got less than a week to go until the Season 4 premiere of THE OFFICE and any little bit of news about the first episode of the new season is welcome. And yes, it’s even more welcome when the powers that be decide to put a shirtless John Krasinski in their promos. And Pam (Ms. Beesly if you’re nasty) is looking pretty smokin’ too. I seriously cannot wait for Thursday!! It’s going to KILL me to be in L.A. for the season premiere and watch it 3 hours after if airs on the East Coast…and by myself none the less, but as long as I can see the show it’s a win-win…all together now…WIN!!

Thanks to Sarabell over at MTT for the clip

Fall Preview: BIONIC WOMAN

Bionic Woman on GMMR

Premiere Date: Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Airs: Wednesdays @ 9pm on NBC

Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teenage sister, Jaime Sommers (Michelle Ryan, “EastEnders”) didn’t think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death’s door, Jaime’s only hope for survival is a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price. With a whole new existence and a debt to re-pay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good, while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it’s Jaime’s journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as the Bionic Woman.

The premise coupled with the fact that the producers are the same team behind Battlestar Galactica made BIONIC WOMAN the new Fall show I was most anxious to see when it was first announced. But if I’m being completely honest the pilot didn’t meet my expectations. I think this show has potential…a lot of potential, but the pilot was riddled with issues. There was so much story crammed into the first hour that it really lacked character development. If viewers are expected to care about what happens to Jamie Sommers now that she’s the bionic woman, we need to first care about Jamie Sommers. I’m going to go ahead and give this one the benefit of the doubt and see if they can produce a more cohesive storyline over the next few episodes. On a more positive note, fans of BSG will love seeing Katee Sackhoff in another kickass role. She was the best part of the pilot by far!!

If you want a sneak peek at BIONIC WOMAN today there are a few ways to check it out. If you have OnDemand as part of your cable lineup NBC is offering the pilot to view for free. The first episode is also available at Blockbuster and online at Amazon Uncut.

Michelle Ryan as Jamie Sommers on BIONIC WOMAN Chris Bowers as Will Anthros on BIONIC WOMAN Katee Sackhoff as Sarah Corvus on BIONIC WOMAN Lucy Hale as Becca Sommers in BIONIC WOMAN Molly Price as Ruth Truewell and Miguel Ferrer as Jonas Bledsoe in BIONIC WOMAN

Brian Baumgartner’s High School Musical

Last night Brian Baumgartner, star of THE OFFICE, was a guest on “Talk Show with Spike Feresten“. During the hilarious interview, Spike showed Brian singing “The Impossible Dream” back from his early high school days. And as promised the video is now up on YouTube.

Watch Kevin Malone sign his heart out [/nice]. I wonder if the same person that took this video also has footage of Ed Helms (Andy Bernard) as Ed and Kevin sang in their high school choir together. Yes, it’s a very small world over there in the Dunder Mifflin audience.

Thanks to Jo for the link and for reminding me the show was on. OfficeTally posted it earlier in the day but I completely blanked.
