HOUSE: Appointment Television

October 24, 2007 by

I’ve become completely smitten with HOUSE. I’ve always been a fan but this season HOUSE has become one of those shows that I look forward to all day. Last year Tuesdays for me where all about “Gilmore Girls” and “Veronica Mars” with House as an after thought. With the absence of those two shows, House has become my one must see show on Tuesday nights.

Last night we had another stellar episode. Hugh Laurie has never been better and I think he peels back a layer of Dr. Gregory House with every episode. He’s so dynamic – I can’t take my eyes off of him. And am I the only not looking forward to the return of Chase, Cameron and Foreman? I know I’ve said it before but I don’t think the show missed a beat with the absence of these three. I think the newbies bring something new to the show and compliment House (the show and the character). The scenes we’ve seen with Cameron, Chase and Foreman have seemed a bit forced to me. It’s almost as if the writers were saying “hey, don’t forget about them because they’re still here.”

These newbies allow the writers to explore stories and scenarios different from what we’ve seen the past three seasons. I’m not even a fan of all the newbies (for instance if I never saw Abby again it would be too soon) but I like the way they interact with House. I’m still waiting for Kal Penn to get more involved in the show though. I wonder if they are letting some of the other newbies, like Olive Wilde’s #13 get in their stories before they move on to him. But I want to see more Kumar!! But it’s fine, like I said I’m liking the other storylines enough that it’s ok, I can wait.

House continues to be one of the top shows in all of primetime television. According to preliminary Nielsen ratings, last night’s House averaged almost 18 million overall viewers – a new record in adults 18-34 (7.6/20) for an episode that didn’t air behind “American Idol.” Who needs Simon Cowell anyway? Dr. Gregory House is cranky enough for me and looks much better in tight tees.

I don’t know how many GMMR readers are regular HOUSE watchers but are you loving this season as much as I am. What do you think of the newbies? Are you waiting for the return of Cameron, Chase and Foreman or are you ok without them?

So, I’m definitely liking House a lot this season.

I just wanted to point out – I had to remind it to make sure – but the non doctor and the plastic surgeon were bickering back and forth, and the non doctor says next time I’ll try to use visual aids so you can keep up or something like that. and as he says that he walks by rubbing his nose with his middle finger. I nearly fell out laughing, and I was just wondering if anybody else noticed it or if they thought it was unintentional or what.

Yea Beck, I noticed that, too. was hilarious! I hate it the rediculously old fraud is gone. liked him better than the plastic surgeon

I miss Chase, Cameron, and Foreman. Not as much as I thought I would, but I do miss them. And I kind of wish I didn’t know which doctors were ultimately going to be regulars. It takes some of the fun away. (Although what’s up with the completely random guy who hasn’t said or done anything distinguishing? I thought for sure he’d be the one gone this week!)

I am loving this season! I haven’t missed the three amigo’s at all and could really care less if they come back (but of course, they will). Like you said the interactions have been great and House continues to crack me up constantly. I’m hoping ridiculously old fraud can come back and be House’s secretary or something? Come on, I loved him!

I thought I would miss the Original Ducklings a lot more, and in all truth – I haven’t really missed them at all! It’s not like I ever didn’t like them, but what you said is so true – these new Potential Ducklings bring a whole different and fresh feel to the show. My heart lies with Cutthroat Bitch, because she’s hilarious. I also like Mormon, and how they seem to be revealing a bit more into the characters each week. I was sad to see Ridiculously Old Fraud go, though, even though he wasn’t reall a doctor. He was neat, though, and he reminded me of World’s Oldest Intern on Grey’s.
