Dexter is one of my favorite shows. I have seen the first season already but I would welcome the chance to force it upon my friends who are resistant to watching. Because Michael C Hall is awesome and everytime I say “Did you need a hug?” people don’t get it and think I might just be a tad bit creepy.

  2. Alyson on October 30th, 2007 10:13 am

I’ve heard what a great show Dexter is, but sadly don’t have Showtime. Everyone says Michael C. Hall is awesome in it, and from what I’ve heard about it, it’s all about vigilante-type just, taking care of criminals because you’ve decided to fight against people who do bad things. As someone who LOVED the Boondock Saints, I’m really interested in checking this out.

I’m like you! I dont have Showtime so I missed the boat on this show but I hear its pretty good so I’d love to check it out.

  5. Emily on October 30th, 2007 10:28 am

Dexter is one of my favorite shows, particularly for Michael C. Hall. But I really love that the show takes me on an emotional rollercoaster ride every week. Without giving anything away, Dexter is often sympathetic and loveable. But as soon as I am totally drawn to his character, he shows his twisted and violent nature and I am ripped backed into reality. The writers’ and Hall’s ability to make a serial killer attractive (not just physically) is what makes this show so fascinating. Everyone should check it out!

  6. LinzMcC on October 30th, 2007 10:51 am

Michael C. Hall makes this show. He makes Dexter endearing, even when he is killing people. Because you feel his pain – you may not understand it, but you are rooting for him.

  7. Phyllis Vance on October 30th, 2007 10:55 am

This show sounded interesting when I heard about it last season, but the season was almost over and I watch enough shows for a college student already. If the writer’s strike happens my friends and I will need something to watch when we hang out on Thursdays and this would definitely be an interesting show for us to watch!

  8. Sarah M on October 30th, 2007 10:58 am

My husband and I LOVE Dexter. Michael C. Hall is brilliant, the writing is outstanding and all put together…it is one of the best shows on television now.

PS…Does it help that my husband and my birthday is the 4th and 19th respectively :)?

  9. Ducky on October 30th, 2007 11:02 am

Dexter is one of my favorite shows on television. I think my favorite moment from last season was when he had to…

    SPOILER ALERT…

Slit the Ice Truck Killer’s throat who he just realized was his brother. It was so emotional and Michael C. Hall in that moment had me in tears. It was gut wrenching to watch him do that, the last tie to his true identity extinguised at his own hand. Simply perfection.

  10. Jenafur on October 30th, 2007 11:07 am

I was a devoted Dexter fan last season and I continue to be this season. I was initially drawn to the show because Michael C Hall was so fantastic in Six Feet Under, i just had to check it out. Dexter was so much more than I expected it to be, and I would love to have the opportunity to spread the love, via a season one DVD!

  11. 2mchtv.noschthng on October 30th, 2007 11:10 am

Why I love this show…to put it bluntly…Michael C. Hall. He is absolutely fantastic in this role. The idea of a serial killer with a moral code is compelling. It’s amazing that they can get us to “root” for a murderer. I love this show and while I know you don’t need another show to watch, you really should add Dexter to your DVR recording schedule. You won’t regret it!!

  12. Darryl Mrowka on October 30th, 2007 11:13 am

I read allot of books on frictional serial killers. Dexter gives me a video version of a serial killer w/o the t.v. version spin to win ratings. HBO’s Dexter lets know what it feels like inside the head of a possible serial killer and the planning and the validating of the events that takes place. Keep up the good work out there.

P.S. I just thought about something, The show focuses on the mindset and not the display of events like slashers Saw or Hostle. I’ve always thought if you can believe something could happen for real in life; thats more frightening.

  13. Jenna on October 30th, 2007 11:19 am

I have heard so much about this show, but do not have Showtime to enjoy it! I am a huge fan of anything horror-genre related, and it would be a great treat just in time for Halloween. thanks!

  14. Tom Weinholzer on October 30th, 2007 11:37 am

Hi! This is my first comment on GMMR….I love the site! I am a big Office fan as well as FNL (which you havent talked about lately) and a few of your others (Grey’s, Heroes and Brothers and Sisters) ANYWAYS…I have read the Dexter books and I am already a Michael C. Hall fan from SFU so it is a no-brainer that my wife and I will love this show. We dont have Showtime and we know eventually we will get to watching this. Season 1 on DVD would definately be the push we need to watch! Thanks again for a great site..

  15. Ivy on October 30th, 2007 11:39 am

I love Michael C. Hall and a bunch of my friends have said “Dexter” is their favorite show. Unfortunately, I’m too poor to afford fancy cable and getting DVDs of the shows is the only way I have to watch them. I would love to have the chance to catch up on this awesome show!

  16. hanncoll on October 30th, 2007 11:40 am

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Dexter, and I’d love the chance to check it out. 😀

[…] about Dexter? Because GMMR’s giving away season one on DVD and all you have to do to win is […]

  18. David on October 30th, 2007 11:53 am

I don’t get Showtime so I haven’t been able to see the show. I read the book that the first season is based on, and it’s great!

  19. Kristi on October 30th, 2007 12:06 pm

I absolutely love Dexter because it’s both a drama and it’s comedy at times. It’s a compelling storyline where I find myself rooting for a serial killer – that’s quite a feat! The character of Dexter is more developed than alot of those on television; he’s much too complex to be thrown into a box of “good” or “evil.”

This season is spectacular so far and I can’t wait for you to watch GMMR and to hear what you think!

  20. Jade on October 30th, 2007 12:15 pm

My friend Kristi is always harassing me to watch new shows–and she’s always right about how awesome they are! She’s been on me about this one since it first aired. I’d love to finally give in and start from the beginning. I think it’d be great material for my review blog as well!

  21. Alex on October 30th, 2007 12:22 pm

I can’t think of another show that got me involved so quickly and so deeply as Dexter did. It’s not often that a show has me jumping up and screaming at the TV, but with Dexter, I’m doing that every single week.

  22. Kilynn on October 30th, 2007 12:24 pm

Okay, so I never got into Dexter because we don’t have Showtime, but we recently had a free weekend and I was fortunate enough to catch a few episodes. Can I just say that I love this show? The performances are amazing, especially Julie Benz! I have been following Julie’s career since she was Darla on Buffy/Angel and I would watch her in ANYTHING.

I would love to have the first season on DVD!

  23. JasonQG on October 30th, 2007 12:39 pm

I don’t get Showtime, so I’ve never seen Dexter. I really liked their viral video campaign, though.

  24. Megan on October 30th, 2007 1:20 pm

The best reason to watch Dexter? Michael C Hall is crazy sexy! Its giving me chills!

  25. Meredith on October 30th, 2007 1:40 pm

I watched Six Feet Under on Bravo and loved that cast! I believe all of them will succeed in any role! However I have not sceen Michael Hall in Dexter and it looks amazing!

  26. Boze on October 30th, 2007 1:52 pm

    His narration is sooo funny

  27. Crystal on October 30th, 2007 1:54 pm

I don’t get Showtime, so I had to wait until the show came out on DVD to watch it. I sort of knew what the show was about, and it sounded interesting. I’m so glad I rented it! I never thought I could be amused by a serial killer, but I found myself laughing quite a bit throughout the season. Sgt. Dokes infatuation with Dexter makes for some truly funny moments. Plus I love that Julie Benz (from Buffy and Angel) is part of the cast. For the second season I’ve started downloading it from a Torrent site. Dexter is my guilty pleasure.

  28. Sarah on October 30th, 2007 2:06 pm

I have to agree with everyone else…Michael C Hall is fantastic.

  29. Mark on October 30th, 2007 2:32 pm

Michael C. Hall transforms himself in this role…I was also a fan of Six Feet Under, but it’s like he is a completely different person in Dexter. I practically count the hours until the show comes on each week.

  30. Elena on October 30th, 2007 2:51 pm

One day, I was standing in an empty subway station, awaiting the 1 train, when I noticed a poster of Dexter behind me. I stood and stared into Dexter’s bright blue eyes for about 5 minutes, completely mesmerized.

Needless to say, I was sold. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to watch the show, but I’ve heard such great things that I would love to give it a try.

    Thanks!

  31. Jasmine on October 30th, 2007 2:58 pm

I LOVE Dexter!!! It is by far my favorite drama on television and I’ve been a loyal fan since season 1 and don’t know if I’ve ever rooted for a television character as much as I root for Dexter Morgan. Micheal C. Hall does an incredible job and should have won something last year. All of the supporting actors/characters are amazing as well (Shout out to Cowboy Harry Tang who does double duty on both Chuck and Dexter!! And both shows have characters named Morgan, the connections are amazing! lol) The great thing about Dexter is that it really stands the test of time with repeat viewings and since I don’t have DVR I would love to have the first season on DVD!! Thanks!!

  32. Jacki on October 30th, 2007 3:29 pm

Dexter is definitely one of my top favorite shows. I was late getting into Season 1 (watched it on On Demand after the season was over), but was hooked just a few minutes into the first episode! I would love to win the DVD set so I could get my sister addicted too. I need her to sign up for Showtime so I can watch the new episodes at her house when I visit!

  33. hpiell on October 30th, 2007 3:51 pm

I don’t have SHOWTIME!!! and I’ve heard nothing but the best things about Dexter!!! I REALLY want to check it out!!

  34. Tom on October 30th, 2007 5:17 pm

I slavishly follow everything Tim Goodman says and he’s been pimping Dexter big time so I really need to check it out.

  35. Holly on October 30th, 2007 5:46 pm

I love Dexter!! I love the whole tone of the show, and the storylines. The concept of having a sympathetic serial killer just seems bizarre, but the show works so well. I would love the chance to watch this show w/o having to download it… I think the gory scenes would pack more of a punch!

  36. Rebecca on October 30th, 2007 6:16 pm

I love how darkly humorous it is and the view into the mind of someone who has to analyze all interactions. I also appreciate a lot of the camera work and angles which provide that slightly off view of the scene. I’d really love to be able to show it to friends and watch it again myself.

  37. Nicholas on October 30th, 2007 6:28 pm

I love Dexter because it is one of the best shows to come along since Dinosaurs…

  38. Maggie on October 30th, 2007 7:05 pm

Basically, every single person I know has said that this show is awesome, and I have seen a few episodes from the first season, but my life is feeling slightly incomplete without having seen the rest.

Plus, Michael C. Hall has fascinated me since he was on Six Feet Under.

  39. Carrie on October 30th, 2007 7:05 pm

I’ve always wanted to see Dexter but can’t justify getting Showtime just to check it out! I’d love to catch up with it on DVD.

  40. Natalie on October 30th, 2007 7:15 pm

I decided to give this show a try this summer and fell in love with it. I mean for a show to make you care and root for a “serial killer” is just mind blowing. And the finally with his brother… I was in tears!!! Loved the first episode this second season so far.

  41. BrokenBrain on October 30th, 2007 7:16 pm

Never seen it but it has a good buzz so would like to check it out.

  42. Ellen on October 30th, 2007 7:37 pm

Because Dexter is amazing, the storyline is well plotted, and no time is ever wasted. All the characters feel real. Because Michael C. Hall is frighteningly believable and understandable, somehow, in this role as a serial killer, whose black humor makes me laugh. I fell in love with the show when I watched the two episodes that Showtime streamed on their website as a promotion towards the beginning of the first season, and watched both episodes in one night. The show very quietly gets the audience to cheer for Dexter, because it is sometimes all too easy to feel like Dexter does about the world. The writing, the acting, oh, and the music. The music is perfect.

I admit, the first season’s finale made me tear up.

  43. Ryan on October 30th, 2007 7:37 pm

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the show and was going to netflix the first season and if I liked it in demand the second season so far, but owning the first season would be better!

  44. lunaticlady on October 30th, 2007 8:00 pm

I´m not in the US, I don´t know if you mail overseas but I´ll try it anyway =D
I love this show, it was probably the only show that surprised me a lot even after I knew some spoilers for the end of the season, and that made me love it so much more. I love how the show is able to start a very nice discussion of what´s our definition of good, bad, and even better, the grey area between both. I love Michael C. Hall, he couldnt be more different from his David in Six feet under, and wow he´s such a great actor. And he´s so sexy, he´s my tv boyfriend. And I just got a new dvd player for my room, so this would be very welcome. =D

  45. Tamara on October 30th, 2007 8:23 pm

Dexter is the reason I am oh-so-close to getting Showtime. Not being able to see it is my biggest TV frustration. Michael C. Hall’s awesomeness only makes it worse; I would love him to be waiting on my shelf after work (serial killer or no).

  46. simone on October 30th, 2007 8:23 pm

honestly? i think it’s one of the best first seasons of a show i have ever seen. literally hands down. the arc over each episode is tight and perfect. nothing extraneous happened. and it was heart pounding whodoneit that had you rooting for a charismatic serial killer. what’s not to love?

  47. Annewa on October 30th, 2007 8:43 pm

I haven’t seen it. Don’t have Showtime. Would like to check it out.

  48. Elizabeth on October 30th, 2007 10:15 pm

We don’t have Showtime, but I read all the articles that Entertainment Weekly does about “Dexter”, and I would love to watch it on DVD!

  49. deidra on October 30th, 2007 11:23 pm

i don’t have showtime, but DEXTER looks like such a cool show!! thanks a bunch!!

  50. Allie on October 31st, 2007 12:42 am

Dexter is such a good show. I never thought I could feel such empathy for a serial killer, but I do. Michael C Hall portrays the character so well that I can understand why he says people run screaming from him in real life because they are unable to differentiate between him personally and him as the character Dexter.

Even the credits for this show are brilliant. The frying and cooking of the spam and the cutting up of the eggs with the ketchup on them never ceases to make me gag and nearly vomit even though I’ve seen season 1 three times!

I can honestly say that not one actor or character in this show irritates me, and that is extremely rare. The whole ensemble just works together brilliantly.

I’m looking forward to the show delving more into the relationship between Dexter and Harry (his ‘father’) this season because *SPOILER ALERT* I understand there is a dark side to Harry also.

    Dexter rocks!!!

  51. Uggy on October 31st, 2007 12:54 am

I have heard so much Buzz about Dexter, I would love to check it out. I haven’t sprung for the higher cable channels yet. Those who watch it always have great things to say about this show.

  52. joan on October 31st, 2007 1:48 am

I think Michael C Hall makes this show. I love him!

  53. Zoe on October 31st, 2007 2:13 am

I have been a Dexter fan from the beginning. Each time I see an episode I think “Wow, can this show honestly get any better?” And of course the next Sunday IT DOES. I’m such a fan that I bought Jeff Lindsay’s book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, and read it in a day. It’s amazing! I’m going to the bookstore soon to buy the rest in the series. But I’m seriously addicted to the television show. Who in their right mind would air a show about a likable serial killer? Geniuses, that’s who! And it airs on Showtime where I can see an episode for 50 straight minutes without commercials.
And don’t even get me going on Michael C. Hall. His unemotional portrayal of Dexter is amazing. I’m convinced he’s a hero! (Even though when I step back I think to myself, “Am I really rooting for a serial killer?” I try to change my mind.)
I could really go on forever. The writers? Geniuses. The guy who created the opening credits? Genius. (Best opening credits EVER.) Okay, I’ll stop rambling, but for anyone who doesn’t watch this show THEY SHOULD. It comes highly recommended.

  54. Petu on October 31st, 2007 3:02 am

He’s so sexy… and the plot is really interesting. But mainly… he’s so sexy… sigh.

  55. Brooke on October 31st, 2007 12:00 pm

I don’t have Showtime, but I read a FANTASTIC review of the show in the NEWYORKER. I’d really love to check this show out! Please randomly select me!

  56. Stephanie on October 31st, 2007 12:09 pm

I don’t have cable, so I was unable to watch Dexter in its first run, but I had heard so much buzz about it, that I Netflixed it as soon as it was released on DVD. I never expected to get hooked on a show about a serial killer, but I did. I’ve been unable to watch the second season as I still don’t have cable; I was forced for financial reasons to choose between paid cable and netflix for my entertainment. Horrible decision, I know, I wouldn’t wish that upon my worst enemy.

Anyway, I was addicted after the first episode. The writing, the ACTING, everything, just blew me away. As others have said, you wouldn’t imagine it was possible to make a serial killer sympathetic, but the writers and Michael C. Hall have succeeded in spectacular fashion. I find myself disturbed to be rooting for this guy, and yet I can’t help myself. MCH’s sublime portrayal of Dexter is both heartwrenching and creepy. His nuanced performance conveys so much more than the emptiness his character professes to feel. He hits all the right notes and it was criminal that he was overlooked for an Emmy nomination.

The rest of the cast is outstanding as well, not a weak one among the bunch. Clever writing and creative direction make this show one of the best on television, in spite of, or perhaps because of, its subject matter. I couldn’t turn the TV off and marathoned the episodes straight until about 1:00 am, when I discovered, much to my horror, that the final episode was on a fourth disc that I had not yet received. Since it was early Sunday morning and I knew that I would have to wait until Wednesday at the earliest to watch the finale, I raced out to my local Blockbuster the very next morning to rent the last disc. I seriously couldn’t wait three days to finish the series. My friends thought I had lost the plot, but I told them it was worth the effort and I would love to get the DVDs so I could hook them on it just like me. 🙂

  57. Kena on October 31st, 2007 12:15 pm

I have heard it is a really great show and I would love to check it out. I have a weird interest in psychopaths and serial killers and want to see the series to learn more.

  58. Eliz K on October 31st, 2007 1:00 pm

Hmmm… gruesome but fascinating. I adore Michael C. Hall, but didn’t have Showtime when this came out. The actors they’ve chosen for supporting roles are some of my favorites, also. Thanks!

  59. Maya on October 31st, 2007 1:12 pm

I love Dexter! I like it because I often wish there were a superhero out there – and Dexter is (kind of) like one. If there have to be serial killers, I wish there really was one like Dexter.

  60. Alyssa on October 31st, 2007 1:32 pm

I haven’t seen the show yet because I don’t have Showtime. I did read the first book in the series and thought it was great so I’d like to check out the show.

  61. Maggie Smith on October 31st, 2007 3:18 pm

I love Dexter because you never know what is going to happen next. Dexter is a: co-worker, brother, boyfriend, “heroin addict”, friend, and serial killer. The plots are intense and the acting is brilliant. Michael C. Hall is amazing. My husband and I are addicted to this show and we love watching on Sunday nights!

  62. Qtpies7 on October 31st, 2007 3:32 pm

  64. Michelle Z on October 31st, 2007 7:42 pm

My husband watched season 1, but I was pregnant and afraid it would keep me up at night! I’ve watched a couple episodes of season 2 now – and would love to go back & start at the beginning!

  65. Carolynn on October 31st, 2007 8:11 pm

The thing about “Dexter” that really drew me in was that even though he is a serial killer, you still find yourself rooting for him. I was sitting on my couch chanting “kill, kill!” this season when he lost his mojo.

Also, I think that the opening season is one of the best I have seen…ever.

  66. Sheryl on October 31st, 2007 8:46 pm

  69. Geri on October 31st, 2007 11:07 pm

I caught about half of the first season during a free preview weekend and I’d love to see the episodes I missed! Michael C. Hall, serial killers, Miami….what’s not to love?

  70. Chris W on November 1st, 2007 9:27 am

I have to agree with pretty much everyone here – Michael C. Hall is a fascinating actor to watch, and it’s so satisfying to watch him nail this starring role. He shone as an ensemble member of Six Feet Under, but it’s great to watch him break out as a real star.

Dexter is such an inventive show…there’s really never been anything else like it on TV! I can’t get enough of it; it’d be nice to add the DVDs to my collection.

  80. Wei-Ting Lai on November 3rd, 2007 5:45 am

Unfortunately I’ve never watched Dexter since I don’t have Showtime, but I read the description for it. A “psychopath” hunting serial killers! Who wouldn’t be at least a little interested? I’d like to know how he’d go about doing it.

  81. naomi on November 3rd, 2007 4:55 pm

I love Dexter because he’s not super cool…

  82. Ginny on November 3rd, 2007 5:11 pm

I love Dexter! I caught the first season on Demand & would love to watch it again. I’m not sure why I like the show. The characters are amazing, I love the way Dexter talks about having no emotions, etc & watching his struggles. It is a very interesting show with a great story line!

  83. Sara on November 9th, 2007 3:29 pm

I love Dexter! Michael C. Hall is wonderful. I liked the series so much, I started reading the books, but — for once — the TV series is actually better than the books it was based on.

  84. Jill W. on November 9th, 2007 9:32 pm

Okay – I’ve read all the books, and love me some Dexter, and I imagine that Michael C. Hall is having lots of fun playing a sociopath with a special “dark passenger”. Haven’t seen the show as I don’t have Showtime, (but I seriously considered it when I heard that they were making the books into a series…)
