With regards to the office and the writers.... I don't know their situation but with movies and some TV it could get REALLY interesting.. Only WGA members would be crossing the line if they worked... There are actors that write that are NOT in the WGA. Vince Vaughn for example does some writing but is not in the WGA so any movie he is working on he could write for... I'm sure there would be some people like that in TV.

The holding point in all of this seems to be DVD sales.. Writers want a better deal with DVD sales and I'd guess it affects movie writers more than TV writers... I wonder if we see a disconnect between the two groups as this thing winds on...

The TV writers clearly have more to lose. You can't make a movie without a WGA writer ( for the most part ) but you can make lots of TV without one..

This leaves me depressed since I only watch scripted shows (I think my viewing will start to consist entirely of TV on DVD).

How long did the writers' strike last the last time this happened?

Go the Writers! They are fighting for their rights (not to party).

From a few articles I have read on it, the last time there was a writers strike Letterman had to reduced his top 10 to a top 2...but he laughed about it. I don't mind crap TV for a while (the crap films will come later I hear) if it means a more fair situation for those people who REALLY make our shows the things we love.

Man.. this sucks. Why can't they just give the writers what they want... Television is a billion dollar business - certainly there's enough to go around for everyone. I can't even imagine not having ANY television to watch (I don't watch reality tv of any kind; so scratch that idea).

Mo Ryan's article addressed those who are writers & producers or writers & actors, just like Tina Fey. They could still act and produce, but not write.

It's going to be an interesting year for TV. Maybe a reset is just what the industry needed. Though the late night shortage is going to stink. I do love Weekend Update on SNL.

My question is, if the writers go on strike for lets say 3 months, will the shows seasons be cut at May like usual, or will the go on through the summer to complete their original order?

I ask because actors on the show are paid per episode and most contracts stipulate how many episodes a season, no? If they quit now, many actors would get paid much less this year. Not that they should complain per se, but just asking.

I hope it doesn't happen, but it seems so likely now. There are major stakes, and what the writers want is not unreasonable at all. I don't know if I could live long with repeats.... especially no Daily Show and Colbert Report!

I don't watch.... but I believe the most hit area of TV for the foreseeable future will actually be the soaps. If the strike happened today they won't last much of November and daytime tv would be reruns and news shows.
I've tried to stay neutral in all of this but can't help but think the writers are playing Russian Roulette with the future of scripted TV... time will tell...

Okay, I get that it's halloween. But why scare us so early? I'm trying to live out the remaining hours in naive bliss.

Writer's strike.. what writer's strike.
