*** BOYCOTT THE DAILY SHOW AND COLBERT REPORT ***

While I deeply enjoy the satire and wit of The Daily Show and Colbert Report, I am saddened and disappointed that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are crossing the picket lines. They are, first and foremost, excellent writers. They have multiple Emmy awards for their comedy writing skills. Instead of returning to the set, they should be returning to the negotiating table and the picket lines.

We, the viewers and consumers, have power to force Sumner Redstone and the rest of the AMPTP back into good faith negotiations. If we withhold our viewership from the commercials that fund the AMPTP, then the advertisers will pressure Viacom to resolve the strike. This strike is about money, and we should use our economic clout to press for the outcome we want.

I'm disappointed that they are crossing the picket line to go back to work. Out of everyone, I expected these 2 to remain faithful to the WGA. I suspect they were forced back because Conan, Leno and Letterman are returning, which are Stewart/Colbert's ratings competition. I really hope they use the airtime to construct shows that support the WGA.

It's awfully brave of them to go it alone, and it will be VERY interesting to see how well they fare. Television personalities have a reputation for relying too heavily on an underpaid, overworked team of writers, so it'd be interesting if they can prove to us all that they're capable on their own.

I vote....maybe.

they will more than likely start having longer interviews and such, ala like the bill clinton interviews and such. and with the primaries starting in less than 2 weeks, I'm sure they'll try to interview all the candidates

I don't understand either how these writer-driven shows could go on the air without the writing staff. It sounds to me like as much of a network decision ("Get back to work with or without your writers or the show is cancelled and you and everyone else is fired") as anything else. It would be awesome if Jon or Stephen just sat at their desks in complete silence for the entire show just to make a point about the importance of writers.
That being said, I'm glad the shows are coming back. They've been sorely missed and not a day of the strike has gone by that I didn't wonder what they'd have to say about what's been happening in politics and showbusiness.
