HIMYM & Big Bang Theory Pull a Switcheroo

February 20, 2008 by

CBS will be switching things up just a bit when they bring back new episodes of their Monday night comedies THE BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER on March 17th. The two shows are going to switch timeslots.  HIMYM, which was previously on at 8pm EST, will now take over The Big Bang Theory’s 8:30pm slot, while the freshman comedy takes over in HIMYM’s 8pm space.

It seems that The Big Bang Theory has pulled slightly better numbers than HIMYM and the network wants to know if it has anything to do with the time slot.

This is potentially good news for HIMYM fans who may have heard that their show had not yet been picked up for next season by CBS.  The Big Bang Theory got the nod for next season last week, and if you haven’t yet checked out that show, I highly suggest that you do…it’s fantastic.

Can’t wait for HIMYM! And I’ll try BBT b/c if it gets GMMR’s recommendation – it can’t be bad! These are some of the first new shows coming back, right? Only a few more weeks away until we’ll be busy with our appointment television every evening again! 🙂

I can’t imagine life without HIMYM.

Sigh. They better not cancel it.

I love HIMYM, and I’ve tried BBT, and can’t seem to get it. So I am crossing my fingers for HIMYM

    GMMR,

I think ‘fantastic’ is a bit of an overstatement for BIG BANG THEORY. It’s good. But it’s certainly no HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.

I never said that BBT was better than HIMYM, did I? I don’t think it is. But I do think it’s a fantastic sitcom…better than most in my opinion.

I really like the nerd-humor on BBT (like when they had a passionate discussion of Superman’s powers), but it mostly strikes me as a cliche-ridden traditional CBS sitcom. I do think it has potential, but I don’t think it is fantastic yet.

I never comment here but I have to jump in and defend the big bang theory. I didn’t watch it from the beginning but when gmmr said that she was going to give it another shot I thought I would to and now it’s one of my favorite shows. Billiam, please explain what you mean about it being cliche ridden? What is cliched about it? Is how i met your mother also a traditional cbs sitcom? how can you say that it’s cliche ridden and then go on to say it has potential. please explain.

For what it’s worth, not everyone is going to agree about TV. It’s ok to have differing opinions – it makes for a much better conversation. Humor is completely subjective. It’s all about what speaks to YOU. It’s why shows like “According to Jim” and “Two and a Half Men” do better in the ratings than critically acclaimed shows like “The Office” and “30 Rock”. Not everyone finds the same things funny.

I happen to really enjoy The Big Bang Theory, and I like it more than some other comedies I “should” love, like Scrubs (which I don’t find all that funny). But that’s the thing, it’s all about what speaks to the individual.

I love BBT….and like HIMYM…..over they years I i’ve watched episodes here and there of HIMYM but I don’t make an attempt to see it…now BBT is the first show since Gilmore Girls that I actually have to see every week….I am not a big TV person, but this is a must for me….I have been lost without it, even know I have seen each episode countless number of times now…I am county down the day to March 17th!!
