LOST: Hark, is that an Answer I Hear?

Lost “Eggtown”

WARNING! The following contains information about last night’s episode of LOST. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, well then you should stop what you are doing right this very instance and go watch it (if you are in the process of participating in some life saving activity for either you or someone else, I wouldn’t stop…but then again if you are saving a life why are you reading this blog?)

Color me crazy but we actually got some answers from last night’s episode of Lost. Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, more questions were raised than answers given, but at this point I’ll take what I can get. I can’t being to tell you how into Lost I am this season. It’s like the writers are on a creative high and we are all reaping the benefits.

Holy Mother of….Aaron….
Kate & Aaron Lost No need to bury the lead on this one…Aaron is the “he” that Kate had to get home to in last season’s finale. Yes, Kate!815 has a son and it’s none other than Aaron. Who knew? Well I did, but aren’t you proud I didn’t spill it? Of course the big reveal came with all kinds of questions the biggest of which is ‘what happened to Claire?’

My friends and I were discussing it and concluded that Kate is trying to pass off Aaron as her biological son. Why else would (a) she be so adamant that he not be brought into the courtroom, and (b) risk spending her life in jail rather than letting her mother see him. Perhaps it’s because little Aaron is a blondie who doesn’t resemble Kate in the slightest? But why not just say she was raising the son of another 815 passenger who died? Maybe it had a little something to do with the big secret the Oceanic 6 are keeping.

Lies may take care of the present, but they have no future…
Jack Eggtown Lost During Kate!815’s trial, Jack!815 is brought in as a character witness much to the chagrin on Ms. Austin. Under oath Jack tells a tall tale of the 8 survivors of Oceanic 815 (yes, he said 8!) and how Kate was the big hero an saved all their lives by bringing them to shore when the plane crashed into the ocean. At this Kate stands and tells the court that she doesn’t want Jack testifying on her behalf. But the DA has just one question for the good doctor – “Do you love the defendant?” And since it’s clearly opposite day on the stand, Jack says “not anymore.” Like the song goes: tell one lie and it leads to another. We later learn that despite still being in love with Kate, she and Jack can’t be together until he is ready to face her son. Why can’t you see the baby, Jack? Do you know that Aaron is your nephew? Is something eating at you, Jack? It’s called guilt and it’s best served with a side of conscious pie.

People keeping busy…
Miles on LOST Back on the island it seems that there’s a lot going on. Ben is still being mysterious and arrogant. Miles knows who Ben is and wants $3.2M to keep his mouth shut to his boss (whoever that is). Claire has more than a few lines most of which concern Aaron’s well being (it came early in the ep so there was a bit of foreshadowing going on). Sun and Jin are trying to decide where in the world they should raise her, um, their baby. Dan is having a few issues with his short term memory. Hurley is still the funniest dude around. Locke’s power trip is getting a little out of control and I think it’s going to come back to bite him in the ass soon enough. Oh and he puts a grenade in Miles’ mouth…sick bastard.

Skaters rejoice…too soon?
Kate & Sawyer in bed Lost And then there is Kate and Sawyer. If you are a Skater then this was your episode. I can’t imagine that this is the last time we’ll see Kate and Sawyer together but with her heading back to the beach and close to being rescued, it sure looked that way. But let’s get to the important stuff, like Kate walking into the room and finding a shirtless Sawyer. I’m more of a Jack girl myself, but Sawyer – hot damn. I was drinking some wine during that scene and had to put down the glass for fear of spilling it. The man was looking fu-hine. Somehow Kate resisted some but not all of his advances. No sexage. Seems Kate was still a little steamed at Sawyer’s reaction about Kate’s possibly pregnancy. She’s not. He’s thrilled. She’s pissed. Can someone remind Kate that pregnancy means certain death? Cut the guy some slack, he wanted you to live (and of course wanted no responsibility and wanted you to keep your hot bod).

Donde esta the plane? Not again!!
Jack Lost So Sayid, Desmond, Frank and dead Naomi took off on the helicopter to head back to the freighter. Some time passed and there has been no word and it seems no one on the boat is answering the phone. Charlotte called an emergency number and got a hold of Regina who knew nothing of the helicopter. Uh oh…where are our friends and why aren’t they on the freighter by now?

Boys & Girls it’s Question Time…
Now is the portion of the post when we talk about all the questions raised during last night’s episodes. Feel free to add a few questions of your own or share your theories on what’s going on. Remember we don’t talk about spoilers here, just speculation.

  • Why is Kate raising Aaron?
  • What happened to Claire?
  • Why doesn’t Jack want to see Aaron? Does he know that Aaron is his nephew?
  • Why doesn’t Kate want her mother to see Aaron?
  • Why does Miles want the specific sum of $3.2M from Ben to keep quiet?
  • Who is Miles’s boss and why does he want Ben?
  • Who are the 8 people that survived the flight? The Oceanic 6 plus 2 more, but who?
  • Why did the Oceanic 6 agree to tell the story that Kate was the hero when they crashed and not Jack?
  • Where is the helicopter and why hasn’t it landed on the freighter?
  • Who is Regina and what’s her role in all of this?
  • Why can’t Daniel remember the 3 cards, and why does Charlotte call this progress?

Are you sure that Daniel was “remembering” the cards? I thought maybe he was ESPing them.
I did not guess the ending at all. This season is really taking us for a ride.
I don’t think Sawyer knows that pregnant women die. I think he was more like; “Yay! No responsibility!” I find Sawyer interesting, but he’s also a jerk, and I always root for Jack over him for Kate’s affection.
Here’s my question: What the hell happened to these people, and why are they lying about it?

  3. Annie on February 22nd, 2008 3:33 pm

Yay! Sawyer & Kate. I know he is an ass. But I still love his character.

My prediction is that Claire dies somehow and so Kate takes over the mothering role.

One other question…maybe I have forgotten…but what happened to the Others? They had some children with them from the plane. Did we ever find out where they went?

Also…Dharma wine in a box. Hilarious!

  4. Jake on February 22nd, 2008 4:24 pm

I’m with Anne. What are the Others doing? Ben told them to go somewhere on the island. Aren’t they going to be curious as to where Ben is and come searching for him?

Personally, Kate is annoying me more and more. I don’t know if the writers are doing that on purpose, but it is working. I’m kind of wishing that Sayid can do work on her next.

I’m loving this season so much, WAY BETTER THAN THIS SNOW IN BOSTON!

  5. Beesly on February 22nd, 2008 4:27 pm

    Mind is a’spinning….

    Why is Kate raising Aaron?
Could the people left on the island not of wanted to leave? That would be my guess – however no one would think of Claire wanting to leave her baby. But remember there is something following Aaron isnt there – something about she was never to give the baby up or bad things would happen. That is a blur so anyone who can refresh the baby/Claire situation in the beginning would be great. Also Jack is her half brother right?

    What happened to Claire?
Hopefully nothing bad – sweet Claire.

Why doesn’t Jack want to see Aaron? Does he know that Aaron is his nephew?
That is SUCH a great question. Could he somehow feel bad for leaving his mother behind. Who Knows – I cant wait to find out!!

Why doesn’t Kate want her mother to see Aaron?
    That WHOLE thing was creepy!!

Why does Miles want the specific sum of $3.2M from Ben to keep quiet?
How much did Hurley win? I wish they would bring up the numbers again, they seemed so important.

Who is Miles’s boss and why does he want Ben?
    ?
Who are the 8 people that survived the flight? The Oceanic 6 plus 2 more, but who?

Cant wait to find out more.

Why did the Oceanic 6 agree to tell the story that Kate was the hero when they crashed and not Jack?

To help her in her trial and so she can take care of Aaron – so strange. I love the writers right now for messing with my mind so 🙂

Where is the helicopter and why hasn’t it landed on the freighter?

And we know somehow they are ok – Sayid is alive he has to be.

Who is Regina and what’s her role in all of this?
    ?
Why can’t Daniel remember the 3 cards, and why does Charlotte call this progress?

I definitely see this as him trying to remember them, although at first I thought they were practicing ESP also.

    Thanks GMMR!!

The thing that I kept thinking about is the time factor. How much time exactly passed in the “real” world from the crash to their rescue? It had to be at least a year for it to be believable for Kate to have been pregnant, given birth and have had a roughly 4 month old baby.

And… Kate’s mother was saying in the court room that she was diagnosed with 6 months to leave 4 years ago…. assuming that the 4 years started when 815 disappeared. Aaron is clearly not 4 years old.

I know we already know there is a time factor, but it will be interesting to see exactly how much time has passed when they return home.

So is Aaron the 5th of the oceanic 6 survivors?

  8. Lili on February 22nd, 2008 7:17 pm

Even as a relatively-passive Jater, I’ll admit, Sawyer didn’t piss me off as much (as Kate) in this episode. But he’s got to tone down the dawg-ishness aspect of his character. Seriously.

Also: Knowing beforehand that “he” was going to be Aaron took away the shock of the reveal, but the foreshadowing Kate-Claire interaction was NOT subtle at all.

And, is Kate passing him off as her biological son or an adopted son (presumably from one of the survivors)?

  9. Elena on February 22nd, 2008 8:06 pm

Somehow … the moment when Kate told Jack to come seem them when he is ready … it hit me that it was Aaron. I was sitting with my friends watching and I was like: It’s Aaron! It’s not her baby! It’s Aaron.

I have no idea how that happened, maybe I’m finally catching on to how Lost works and my brain is able to pick up the small hints. I just kept struggling the whole episode wondering how much time could have POSSIBLY gone by between them getting off the island and her giving birth and getting thin and THEN going to trial. It just didn’t make sense to me that she would be pregnant, especially since she insisted that she wasn’t to Sawyer.

Anyway, I’m proud of my self for figuring it out … butttt I’m sad that Claire either dies or is separated from her baby. Both options suck.

By the way, does it bother anyone else that Claire seems completely fine with Charlie’s death? She’s walking around cheerfully, acting like everything is chipper and great … when her bf died a couple of days ago.

I’ve always loved the Kate-centric episodes the most so I thought this week’s was great. I think when Miles asked Ben for 3.2 million dollars that he was using some kind of code. Because why not round it up, you know. I’m also afraid that claire will die. I mean, something has to happen to get Hurley to join Jack’s side. Anyways, I can’t wait to find out more.

I have another question to add to the mix…..

How did Kate get the really nice house, expensive clothes, sweet ride, maid/nanny, etc? Did she get some kind of settlement that the other “6” or “8” didn’t get?

  12. Ed on February 23rd, 2008 4:55 pm

The other 2 that make up ‘8’ are Walt and Michael… I think.

  13. Sammie on February 23rd, 2008 8:34 pm

I thought that the scene with Daniel and the cards was very interesting. My first impression was that he was trying to remember the cards. I’ve heard since the episode aired that that’s actually a memory exercise that’s commonly used for people with autism. I’m not sure if that’s actually true, but it makes a lot of sense when you factor in his odd behavior, the fact that he had a “caretaker”, and Naomi calling him a “headcase”. I’ve actually been thinking for a while now that he has a form of high functioning autism.

Also, Claire is was too happy! I really just want her to be depressed about Charlie and not giving Kate sly smiles about Sawyer!

  14. Beesly on February 24th, 2008 11:22 am

Just an FYI … everyone I’ve been talking to clearly thinks that Daniel was ESP’ing the cards and NOT remembering them. I seem to be the only one thinking he was trying to just remember them.

I wonder when and if we’ll find out.

  15. Beesly on February 24th, 2008 11:28 am

    Sammie I agree.

    WHAT ABOUT MOURNING CHARLIE!!!

It just seems like they should of done more with that – remember when STUPID SHANNON died it was a huge deal – now with so much going on I understand its hard, but something more should of been said bout CHARLIE.

    * Why is Kate raising Aaron? Something happened to Claire OR for some reason Claire did not want to/ could not elave the island and sent Aaron to the mainland with Kate.
    * What happened to Claire? See above.
    * Why doesn’t Jack want to see Aaron? Does he know that Aaron is his nephew? That’s my guess.
    * Where is the helicopter and why hasn’t it landed on the freighter? That we’ll find out in the next episode. From the spoilers I’ve read I’d assume it’s the turbulence mentioned. Might have something to do with the time sucking island though…
