Paula Abdul is Off Her Meds - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Paula Abdul is Off Her Meds

April 30, 2008 by

…or else AMERICAN IDOL is fixed. Either idea is completely plausible. But in what was definitely the strangest moment of the night, Paula Abdul critiques both of Jason Castro’s performances. Too bad he had only sung once at that point in time. How does Paula already have detailed notes on his second song? And somewhat negative comments at that?! Something smells a little fishy. Oh and did you see how Randy and Simon quickly jumped in and covered for her rather than simply make fun of her like they usually do? Check out the look on Simon’s face when Paula starts giving comments on Jason’s second song. He looks a little panicked if you ask me. See for yourself…

So is this Paula just being Paula (probably) or am I just looking for a story where there really isn’t one (most likely).

I really believe that Paula just showed how rigged this show is. I don’t know what happened but something is not right. AI has had an agenda to get the Davids into the finale and Jason has such a huge fanbase that he may threaten that. (Many blogs and critics have called him a dark horse),

Archuleta missed the lyrics last week, his rendition of “Sweet Caroline” was unrecognizable, and “America” had contrived written all over it. But he’s a prodigy and can do no wrong!

I think this really sucks for JC, he doesn’t deserve it. He showed great composure and maturity…I would have bitched Paula out.

I agree with you, Kath – something fishy is going on – at least for last night’s show. I assume the judges maybe watched the rehearsals and at least Paula took notes because of how quickly they were going to move along during the show itself. But I don’t think that’s necessarily fair since the contestants should be judged on the performance that airs.

However, I have to agree that Jason was off last night with both his songs. The Davids are probably the top 2 of the 5 remaining (in my own opinion), but it shouldn’t be something predetermined by the producers.

Yes, they have referenced in past seasons about how the judges watch during the rehearsals and often times will use that performance as an indicator of how they will judge them. Randy once mentioned last season something about how it is easier to judge them and hear things like pitch and sound when there isn’t an audience (of pre-teen girls – Hellooo Archuletta) freaking out in the front.

I think she was just reading notes she took from Jason’s dress-rehearsals performance. The show went by so fast that it may have confused her, and it probably did not help that she wasn’t taking enough meds that night.

This show is so rigged, it’s ridiculous. Paula was either drunk or taking too much (or not enough) medication. Even though Jason didn’t have the best night, it made me furious that she gave him the bad reviews before he even started his second song. And what was up with Randy and Simon covering for her? I loved that David Cook busted out laughing.

I’m also sick of all the praise that David A gets. He messed up the words again and of course none of the judges say anything about that. (He sang my country “tith” of thee instead of “tis”. He can do no wrong in their eyes and it drives me crazy.

I bet it’ll be Syesha going home tonight.

    From MSN.com:
“She explained that she got confused by looking ahead at the notes for David Cook….

Even Cowell gathered himself to help patch up the moment, patting Abdul on the shoulder and asking, as if to speed things along, “Paula, who was your favorite?”

Her reply: Cook (the same contestant whose performance she supposedly noted as having left her “empty”).”

    Hmmm….sounds fishy to me!

    It’s Paula, people.

American Idol, even though I now hate it, I believe isn’t rigged. But like any reality show, it’s often manipulated.

But perhaps she was reading the notes she took during the dress rehearsal? I mean, the clips we see at the end of the show are from the dress rehearsal. So it’s completely plausible.

She was totally talking about Jason and I believe it is because the judges DID watch the rehearsal and were given a heads’ up to take notes as the ‘live’ show would be zipping by. The fact that she was giving him both critiques right then is due to the meds 🙂

I think Archie, Jason, and Brooke all peaked too soon and have been on the Melinda downslide while Cookie and Syesha have stepped it up. Cookie is safe for sure and I hope Syesha doesn’t go home tonight. She has taken all of the criticism and has worked it into her performance. She deserves to be in the top 3.

I was giving her the benefit of the doubt as well. If you think about it, Ryan pulled a fast one by announcing that they weren’t going to get critiqued until after their second song- so Paula may have thought the whole episode had already passed?
