Welcome Back to THE OFFICE!!

September 25, 2008 by

[SPOILER ALERT!!! – The following post and subsequent comments may contain spoilers for the season premiere of THE OFFICE.  Read at your own risk]

What words in the English language can I use to describe my excitement about tonight’s season premiere of THE OFFICE?  I’m not sure any exist.  I could do a little jig but you wouldn’t be able to see it.  I could rent a plane have it write words in the sky for all to see (but I don’t want to risk taking any proposal ideas away from Jim Halpert).  I guess you’re just going to have to take my word for it.  THE OFFICE is back and I’m a happy TV gal.

So what’s in store for us this season?  Well, I guess the only ones that really know that are huddle up in the writers room in the offices in Van Nuys.  But we’ve been told a little.  Just as much as they want us to know.  And that’s ok with me. I have more faith in the writers of THE OFFICE than I do on any other show. I might not always be happy with their choices (hello Stamford), but I like the ride they take us on.  And they’ve never left me down (ok there were a few of those hour long eps last season that were a bit painful, but I’ve moved on).

By the mere fact that you are reading this I’m not sure you need an OFFICE recap.  But just in case I’ll let you know where we were when we were last visiting Dunder Mifflin.

Previously on…
After years of torture from Michael Scott, Toby Flenderson finally quit Dunder Mifflin.  To celebrate the departure of the HR rep, Michael insist that the party planning committee throw a party unlike any other (which isn’t hard to do as each DM party is quite a ‘unique’ experience).  The party was a great success….for some.  With the backdrop of ferris wheels, corn dogs and fireworks, Jim Halpert was finally going to propose to Pamela Beesly.  He was ready.  She was ready.  And unfortunately Andy was ready…to ruin the whole moment by proposing to Angela.  Jim got ‘nardogged…big time.  Angela gave Andy a unenthusiastic ‘Yes’ much to the chagrin of Dwight. But when Phyllis returned to the office later in the night only to find Angela (the new office mattress) and Dwight making sweet, sweet love on the accountant’s desk, we were left shocked and secretly happy (if not a little disgusted).
Meanwhile, Toby’s replacement, Holly, began to get a feel for her new co-workers, and much to everyone’s surprise, she really hit it off with Michael.  Crazy, right?  They seemed to be a perfect match. But when Michael discovers that Jan is pregnant (with a baby that isn’t his), Michael puts his potential new love life on hold to be there for Jan and the baby.  Aw, Michael.

Pam was accepted to the Pratt School of Design in NYC, meaning she has to leave Dunder Mifflin and Jim behind for three months.

Oh and DB!Ryan was led out of Dunder Mifflin Corporate in handcuffs after his “experiment” with Dunder Mifflin Infinity went horribly wrong. If Ryan thought Kelly was clingy, wait until he meets his new “friends” in prison.

What’s in Store for Season 5?…

Tonight on THE OFFICE (oh it feels good to write that)…
For the first time ever, we’re going to get a glimpse of the Dunder Mifflin staffers during the summer.  The hour long episode will span the eight weeks or so of the summer and bring us up to date with all the office antics.  The staff will participate in a cross-branch weight-loss program which, of course, Michael takes a bit too seriously.

Michael will juggle his two ladies (because there’s never just one with Michael) – can he deny his obvious feelings for Holly or will he put them aside for Jan?

Pam heads off to school in NYC, and she and Jim do the long distance thing.  Will they last? (Um, yes or heads will be rolling).

Clearly there is a lot to be excited about this season.  In addition to the workplace comedy, I think the viewers will once again be caught up in the various office romances to see how they all play out.

Will Jim finally propose to Pam or will their long distance relationship slow things down a bit for them?

Will Andy and Angela continue down the marital path or will Dwight rescue his monkey ? (That sounded dirty than was intended)

What’s to come of Michael, Holly & Jan?  It’s going to be hard to root for Michael & Holly knowing that Amy Ryan is only around for the first batch of episodes.  But will Michael’s bond with Jan prove to be so strong that it can hold off another woman?  Possibly his soul mate?

And then there’s Ryan.  If you’ve been reading the spoilers and watched the spoiler clips from tonight’s episode then you might have a small hint as to what’s going on with Ryan.  I have a little scoop on the Ryan situation and you may just be surprised as to how it plays out.  It’s going to be funny stuff.

I’ve been lucky enough to see most of the screeners in advance for most of the shows this Fall.  I haven’t seen THE OFFICE.  So I’ll be watching it live with all of you tonight.  Of course we will be talking about it in depth tomorrow on GMMR, but for now I hope you all enjoy your first OFFICE Thursday of the new season.

Share your excitement about THE OFFICE with me with other fans in the comments!!

A friend sent along the Simpsonized Office cast pic from above. I looked around the web and couldn’t find the original creator. If you know who it is, please let me know so I can give proper credit. Thanks!

I’m beaming – I’m so excited to watch tv tonight! I’ve stayed away from video promos of tonight’s episode (although I did read some stuff)…so I hope it’s awesome. I’m going to re-watch “Goodbye Toby” and the deleted scenes tonight, then I’ll be watching the clock for 9pm! WOOHOO! Office Thursdays are back!

I am so happy that Office Thursdays are back! I’m excited to see what’s in store for everyone and even though Amy Ryan is only signed on for a few episodes, I really hope they’ll bring her back – she was fantastic in the season finale last season and it looks like she’ll have a great part in the upcoming episodes! And I’m very curious to know what the deal is with Ryan as well!

I’m not too concerned about JAM and actually am looking forward to seeing how they handle being apart – I think that there may be some tension at times but I definitely believe they ultimately will end up together.

So in my effort to keep from going crazy over not having any new episodes of The Office and not getting my weekly Jim Halpert fix, I have been keeping myself spoiler-free for months. I gave into the pressure tonight and read (for the first time) about The Office personnel competing in a weight-loss program over the summer. And my jaw dropped. Why, you ask?

Well, that is just reason # 874 why The Office is my life…on national television (minus that whole Jim Halpert thing…you know, minor details). I work as a receptionist who longs to do something else. We all think our boss is an idiot. No joke, I have honestly sat in a meeting waiting for the screensaver on my computer to hit the corner. We hate corporate visitors. We gave our boss a skipper hat just like the one Michael wears in Booze Cruise…over a year before the episode premiered. And this past summer we participated a corporation-wide weight loss program.

I think there’s a spy in my office. But if these similarities keep happening, I’m holding out hope for my own Jim Halpert to come walking through the door.

I’m so excited for this premier. I haven’t been too into the new TV season as of yet, so I’ve really been looking forward to tonight. I hope I don’t go into labor before 9:00 pm. Even if I do, I’m holding it in and not going to the hospital until 10:00.

I’m not really supposed to have my babies until Oct. 23rd, which is also a Thursday. Hopefully I’ll be awake and recovered from the anesthesia by 9:00 pm so I can watch that week’s episode in the hospital. Oh, and that they won’t need to be fed during the show.

I’m so excited for the Office to start back up again tonight! Season 4 was too short for my taste due to the writer’s strike. It was 14 episodes instead of 25. Eek! I have so many predictions running through my head! I need some closure! Really looking forward to season 5 in general though. Yay!

I’m also really looking forward to the commercials. No, seriously! Remember that Tide talking stain commercial that first aired during the Super Bowl? So funny. Well, I work at Tide and we had a contest earlier in the year to see who could best spoof the ad. We had some great entries! The finalists can be seen here: http://www.tidetogo.com/ads and the WINNER can be seen during the season premiere of The Office TONIGHT. Should be great!

Thanks for letting me comment on your blog! If you have any questions, feel free to email me! I’d love to hear from you!

    Thanks!
