You Asked for it….it’s SUPERNATURAL!

Here’s the deal. I can’t possibly watch all the shows that GMMR readers watch. It’s just not physically possible. As a result I know I’m missing out on some fantastic TV. It’s always been my philosophy not to blog about shows I don’t watch, but recently I’ve realized that just because I don’t watch it doesn’t mean YOU don’t want to talk about it. And that was the main reason for building out Team GMMR this year. More people to cover more shows. So that being said, I want to introduce you to Nicole, the latest addition to Team GMMR. Nicole will be covering SUPERNATURAL for us this season. GiveMeMyRemote.com might no be the authority on this show (I’ll leave that to Rae and Ducky), but you asked for it so we are covering it.

With that, I turn it over to Nicole…

Before I begin the review of last night’s episode, how about a shout-out to the awesome season premiere last week?

Seeing Dean rise from the grave and the little glimpses of the pain he was in while in hell, was great and terrifying. His reunions with Bobby and Sam most definitely caused my eyes to well up. Good ol’ Supernatural kept some light moments too to break up the emotion of it all which was great (“Are you guys together?).

About Last Night: UGLY BETTY & GREY’S ANATOMY

September 26, 2008 by
Filed under Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty

Anyone else still feeling hungover from Thursday night TV?  It’s kind of nice though, isn’t it?

So we already covered THE OFFICE, SURVIVOR and in just a little bit we’ll be talking IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADEPHIA and SUPERNATURAL.  But for now let’s jump into UGLY BETTY & GREY’S ANATOMY, shall we?

Ugly Betty...
If you read post yesterday about the UGLY BETTY season premiere, then you know I was a little underwhelmed.  But hey, what do I know?  Talk to me.  What did you think of last night’s premiere?

Grey’s Anatomy…
Oops, I forget to mention yesterday that GREY’S was back last night.  But being TV addicts I assumed you figured it out all on your own.  I thought the premiere was good, not great, but good.  I could have done without all the dream sequences – what was the point?  I thought they were a bit gratuitous and served no one but the ABC promo department.  And I was actually a bit perturbed that they would bring Dead Denny back in such a way.  Don’t waste him.  He was a beloved character and I feel like they are just milking him.

SURVIVOR: GABON – Earth’s Last Eden

Filed under Posts by Erik, Survivor, Survivor Recap, TV News

I have a confession to make. Despite being a loyal viewer during Survivor’s record breaking first run in the Summer of 2000, I have not watched a single episode since Richard Hatch became reality television’s first millionaire. Though I found the concept fascinating, I assumed that the concept could not hold up over time, and that Jeff Probst would become the answer to a $1000 Jeopardy question about TV trivia. As penance for my horrible psychic skills, I have assumed the role of Explorer Erik for the seventeenth season of Survivor. Pack your bags for West Africa, as we follow eighteen contestants to Gabon, “Earth’s Last Eden.”

Survivor Gabon: The Good, The Bad, & The Underwhelming

The Good:
Audiences will be delighted by CBS’ decision to broadcast Survivor in High Definition this season. Mark Burnett and his team took full advantage of the upgraded technology by providing breathtaking views of the lush Gabon landscape. From the opening sequence featuring hippos, elephants, and wild hogs to the desolate shots of Exile Island, one could easily mistake this mass marketed reality program with a lost episode of Planet Earth. In addition, viewers with HDTVs will feel heightened tension during Immunity & Reward Challenges, as the blood, sweat, and tears of the participants radiate onscreen.

THE OFFICE Season Premiere Recap: Weight Loss (Spoiler Alert!!)

The following post and comments will most certainly contain spoiler for THE OFFICE.  Honestly STAY AWAY!!!

I’m not sure it’s right to derive so much happiness from an hour of television, but when it’s THE OFFICE and it’s an episode like we got tonight,  it just can’t be helped.  Tonight’s Season 5 premiere had a little bit of everything I love about my very favorite show. And having it back was like hanging with an old friend.  An old friend who is inappropriate and awkward as hell, but who has a lot of heart.

For the first time ever, the season premiere gave us a glimpse of what the Dunder Mifflinites were up to over the summer.

In an effort to improve employee health, DM Corporate launched a inter-branch weight loss competition.  But Michael being Michael he took it just a bit too far…well, if you call employees passing out due to starvation a bit too far.  What people will do for a few days off from work.

With the weight loss competition as the background, we got caught up with our favorite paper pushers.

Lee Pace Shirtless…Need I Say More

PUSHING DAISIES fans…be warned.  The following video is a sneak peek of the October 1st (8pm on ABC) season premiere of PUSHING DAISIES.  If you want to avoid spoilers I wouldn’t watch this clip.

On the other hand if you want to see the incredibly delicious Lee Pace standing around in only his boxers shorts for an entire scene, by all means watch away.

I can’t stress to you enough how amazing PUSHING DAISIES is.  If you are interested in watching the show when it returns for its second season on 10/1, I encourage you to go out and get S1 on DVD.  It’s only 9 episodes and it’s under $20.  You can get caught up this weekend.  But if getting caught up on the DVDs isn’t in your near future, then just leave a comment here or shoot me an email and I was personally explain the show and everything you need to know before the new season starts.  Or you can just wait until next week when I publish a “Dummy’s Guide to PUSHING DAISIES” (something I wasn’t planning on doing until right this very second).

John Krasinski is Shrinking!

September 25, 2008 by
Filed under John Krasinski, The Office

Perhaps an unfortunate blog title.  Sorry Mr. Krasinski.  But this picture of THE OFFICE’s John Krasinski and co-creator of the original UK version of THE OFFICE, Stephen Merchant, had me giggling so hard I had to post it.  At 6’3″ John’s a pretty tall guy, but next to Merchant who is reportedly 6’7″, Krasinski seems like he’s shrinking before our eyes.

Merchant has spent some time as of late at Dunder Mifflin.  He recently directed an episode for the upcoming season.  As in season 5…which premieres in just about 2 hours.  Good God I can’t wait!!

Thanks to Tom, Heather & Beccs who all sent this along today.

UGLY BETTY is Back…To the Same Old Stories

September 25, 2008 by
Filed under TV News, Ugly Betty

Alright all you UGLY BETTY fans…your show is back. Listen, I’m going to be honest with you, I had some issues with tonight’s episode. As a fair and honest journalist (ha ha ha ha), I felt the need to share.  But keep in mind that my criticism comes from a place of love.  Read on (and don’t shoot the messenger).

Previously on…
After taking over the Meade empire, Alexis was manipulated by Wilhemina into ousting Daniel as Editor-in-Chief of Mode. Hilda found out that her new boyfriend, Justin’s gym teacher, was married.  Betty had to choose between Henry’s mariage proposal and Gio’s invitation to Europe.  And Amanda and Marc continued their awesomeness just by being them.
When the new season picks up tonight we jump a little bit into the future.  I’m not in the business of spoiling shows for you, especially when you are going to be watching later tonight, but I will say that while some characters are stuck in a bit of a rut, others are in for some big changes.

Welcome Back to THE OFFICE!!

[SPOILER ALERT!!! – The following post and subsequent comments may contain spoilers for the season premiere of THE OFFICE.  Read at your own risk]

What words in the English language can I use to describe my excitement about tonight’s season premiere of THE OFFICE?  I’m not sure any exist.  I could do a little jig but you wouldn’t be able to see it.  I could rent a plane have it write words in the sky for all to see (but I don’t want to risk taking any proposal ideas away from Jim Halpert).  I guess you’re just going to have to take my word for it.  THE OFFICE is back and I’m a happy TV gal.

So what’s in store for us this season?  Well, I guess the only ones that really know that are huddle up in the writers room in the offices in Van Nuys.  But we’ve been told a little.  Just as much as they want us to know.  And that’s ok with me. I have more faith in the writers of THE OFFICE than I do on any other show. I might not always be happy with their choices (hello Stamford), but I like the ride they take us on.  And they’ve never left me down (ok there were a few of those hour long eps last season that were a bit painful, but I’ve moved on).

By the mere fact that you are reading this I’m not sure you need an OFFICE recap.  But just in case I’ll let you know where we were when we were last visiting Dunder Mifflin.

Bones Review: The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond

September 25, 2008 by

Oh ho! So…Zack never killed anybody? Discuss….

Okay…okay…so, this was a good episode, wasn’t it? Alliteration aside, maybe the best so far this season, yeah? I can’t wait to hear what you think in the comments.

The Case:
A young man’s body (except the head) is found in 12 (perfect) pieces in an evaporation pit. A few suspects, and even a confession from one of the toilet mint gang. I never know who is guilty till the end, and I’m okay with that. I like being surprised. What I don’t like is seeing a human head in a box. You hear that, Bones? (Bones, the show, not the person, ha.)

Gary UnmarriedPainting contractor Gary (Jay Mohr) and his ex-wife (Paula Marshall) navigate kids and new relationships in this comedy, which opens with Allison announcing she is remarrying and Gary getting involved with a client. [GMMR: We’ll talk more about this one tomorrow. I can’t say that I was all that excited about GARY UNMARRIED. I’m a fan of Jay Mohr and he’s probably the brightest spot in this new sitcom.  But in general I felt things were a bit contrived.  The comedy was pretty formulaic and traditional.  There were certainly a few funny moments but I like my comedies with a bit more depth.  Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think tomorrow.  But don’t forget – don’t get hooked because come October 1st this show is up against PUSHING DAISIES.  I’m just sayin’…]

FRINGE Still Needs a Little TLC

September 24, 2008 by

“Like mosquitoes in amber.” – I’ve heard this phrase before, buy only on FRINGE would this description be associated with people found “frozen” on a city bus.  Welcome to another day of living in ‘the pattern’.While I’m still waiting for that break out episode of FRINGE, I found last night’s episode quite interesting.  It seemed the writers pulled back from the scientific mumbo jumbo and went straight for the crazy.  But it kind of worked.  I might not be on board enough to really buy the idea of the ‘ghost network’ (Skype for the undead?) but the characters seemed to be invested enough in it that I went along for the ride. And that my friends is half the battle.

Dr. Walter Bishop continues to walk the edge of crazy.  Wacky Walter spends his days concocting illicit drugs and self medicating but no one seems to have an issue with him putting some device on some guy’s head and drilling holes into his skull.  We are asked to forgive or maybe ignore a lot on FRINGE, and I’m willing to do so, but there’s got to be a line.  There has to be a real sense of realism embedded within these outrageous stories for us to become emotionally invested.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Has Life on Lifetime

September 24, 2008 by
Filed under How I Met Your Mother, Posts by Jen

After a highly competitive bidding war, Lifetime bought the exclusive cable rerun rights to “How I Met Your Mother”. Alas, you’ll be holding on to your remotes for awhile, our gang won’t be heading to Lifetime until 2010.

The terms per The Hollywood Report is a four-year licensing deal including up to eight seasons, should the CBS comedy run that long, and $725,000 per episode. “Mother” had a big Monday season debut, jumping 21% from last season. Yay gang!

Per The Hollywood Reporter: JoAnn Alfano, Lifetime’s new executive vp entertainment, said “Mother” is a good fit for the network’s lineup. “It’s fresh and contemporary,” she said. “There are not a lot of shows out there that are right for us, so it was really important to go after this.”

She added that “Mother” could serve as a launching pad for new original series.

“For me, to be able to develop like sitcoms with this kind of voice is exciting,” she said. “The direction we want to go in for acquisitions is to not only allow us to fresh up our comedy block but also launch original series.”

GMMR Fall TV: Wednesday Night

September 24, 2008 by
Filed under Bones, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies

Thank you Wednesdays!!  I can breathe…and see friends…and read a book (ok, who am I kidding).  But with only a few shows to watch, Wednesday really is the hump day of the week. Of course rather than doing any of the aforementioned activities I’ll probably be catching up on TV leftovers from Monday & Tuesday night and resting up for the Thursday night TV juggernaut.  Oh the life of a TV blogger.

Fall TV: Watch it live…

PUSHING DAISIES (premiering Oct 1st): One of the highlights of my TV week.  I love PUSHING DAISIES so much that it’s right up there with THE OFFICE as the only other show that fits into all three of my viewing preference categories:  Both shows I will watch live, DVR it to rewatch later in the night and later in the week, and then for good measure I might just go ahead and watch it online.  We’ll definitely be talking PUSHING DAISIES on GMMR, but full coverage of the show will be over at ThePieMaker.com (and if you are a fan or want to be a fan, check out The Pie Maker today!)

DIRTY SEXY MONEY (premiering Oct 1st): The dear, distrubed, dysfunctional Darlings.  What will they have in store for us this season?  DIRTY SEXY MONEY started off strong last season but ran into a few bumps along the way before it got lost within the WGA strike.  I’m going to go ahead and stick with it.  If nothing else its good, campy fun on an otherwise slow TV night.

BONES : Don’t get all excited.  No, I’m not going to be watching BONES live.  But GMMR’s resident BONES expert, Seeleybaby, will be watching and she’ll catch us all up on the latest with Booth, Brennan, Sweets and more (see I pay attention to the recaps).
