BROTHERS & SISTERS Recap: Book Burning

October 6, 2008 by

BROTHERS & SISTERS, Justin and Rebecca

Hey all, Jamie again.  On last nights Brothers & Sisters, it is revealed that Kitty has written a politically inspired memoir based on Robert’s recent Presidential campaign that hits a little to close to home for the Walkers.  It of course stirs up all kinds of juicy drama and another Walker family scrap.

I’m feeling a wee bit sick today so I apologize if my recap is a bit lacking this week, but let’s jump right in…

To get the adoption process moving, Kitty has decided to throw a big dinner for both her family and the adoption social worker. She enlists Nora’s help in preparing the dinner, but with all the Walker kids attending, I think we’ll be getting more than a home cooked meal. I sense a massive Walker family fight brewing.

Earlier in the day, Kitty revealed to Kevin that she accidentally wrote the aforementioned book. After Kitty leaves, Kevin notices her bag remaining and takes out the manuscript. He flips through it and looks quite irked. And so was the case with the rest of the Walker’s when they got wind of Kitty’s writing. Angry Walkers = definite destruction.

The still slightly strange Justin and Rebecca relationship starts off strong at the top of the episode, with them making out hot and heavy on the couch until Justin freaks about the idea of having sex with Becca and bolts. He goes to Sarah for advice and she advises him that, ex-sibling issues aside, he cares for her and maybe they should take it slow.

Rebecca and her mother are still at odds (aren’t they always?).  Rebecca needs to get away but when she suggests getting a hotel room with Justin, little brother once again freaks out and runs to Sarah. But of course Tommy gets involved, calls him on being wimp, and reminds him that Rebecca’s hot so he should just man up and go for it. Nice Tommy, way to be a brother. I love Dave Annable’s panicky portrayal of Justin, so cute!

Nora’s revelation last week that William had another affair and another child has hit Holly hard. She’s a scorned woman and now she is on a mission to find out more about Ryan Lafferty (aren’t we all). She tries to bribe Saul with a donut then grills him for info on Ryan’s mother and her affair with William. Saul blows her off.  But not to be deterred, Holly meets with some man and lays on some sexual charm to get him to track down Ryan. That harlot!

Nora still doesn’t want anything to do with Ryan and finding him. Kevin tries to convince her that they should find Ryan. Some of his arguments were priceless. Brady bunch, six is better, so witty. Nora slams on the breaks, end of discussion.

Holly is also dishing out cash this week. She gives Rebecca her entire two million dollar trust. Rebecca thinks her mother is trying to buy her love back…which of course she is.

Back to the book drama, Kitty admits to Robert that she wrote a book, but she chooses to so seconds before the adoption social worker shows up. Bad timing Ally McBeal.

The passive aggressive Walker’s arrive for dinner and Kitty is busted. The food is too spicy, Nora dumps wine on the social worker and everyone yells. Robert stands up for his wife as Nora lays into her (Rob Lowe rocked this scene). I found last weeks beach house battle a bit more exciting but it was nice to see Robert put the family in their place and the his suggestion that they filter their comments and act like adults was so true, I could not agree more.

After the stressful dinner, Rebecca and Justin get to their hotel room and settle in. Feeling nervous, Justin suddenly blurts out that he can’t sleep with her yet. They have a sweet chat about their romance and both decide that they want to take it slow. Rebecca has also decided that her two million trust is dirty money and if she takes it she’s no better than her mom. She gives the trust money to Nora and asks her to take from her. Nora tells her she will hold it for her. Wow I can’t believe she gave the money away. I think Nora will end up giving back to her in some way.

Kitty tries to apologize to her mother for some of the stuff written in the book, all the while maintaining that the family only read certain parts and took her words out of context. Nora explains her reaction and breaks down about her need for Kitty to respect her. It’s a lovely scene and I got a bit misty. Kitty asks her mom to read the dedication page. It turns out she dedicated the book to her mom. Good mother daughter moment. Aw.

Both Nora and Robert read the book and they both love it. Whew, dodged a bullet there, Kitty.  Robert thinks she should publish it, but of course she’ll have to resign from his staff.

Oh an the social worker approved Kitty and Robert so they are on the way to a baby – perhaps not a bad time to leave the political world behind, Kitty.

Thoughts on this week’s episode?  Will Kitty become a big time writer or stay working with Robert?  Will Rebecca keep the money?  Will we ever see Ryan Lafferty?

Until next week,
JamieYour Brothers and Sisters devotee for this season is Jamie aka Jamer (GMMR handle). She hails from Vancouver BC and is pumped to be adding a dash of Canadian flare to the GMMR. So what will the Walker’s have in store for us this year? I don’t know but let’s enjoy the bumpy ride together!

    **SPOILER ALERT**

Kevin will be going back into the closet because of work. This saddens me a little, mainly because since the show began Kevin has be a proud gay man. I hope this wont cause too much trouble for his new marriage
