About Last Night…Ricky Gervais, UGLY BETTY, SNL, KATH & KIM, GREY’S and more…

I earned my TV watching stripes last night. I was a pro.  The amount of TV watching I did last night was impressive if I do say so myself.  I was on fire!

Let me break it down for you…

  • I kicked off the night by watching the screener I just got for the upcoming HBO stand-up special, Ricky Gervais: Out of England.  It doesn’t air until November 15th so I’ll talk about it more as we get closer, but my God it was funny.  No one has a delivery as distinctive as Ricky Gervais.  His comedy is smart and his timing is impeccable. You must not miss this stand up special. It’s bloody brilliant!
  • Ugly Betty was one again ‘eh’ for me last night.  I’m a fan of Gio and thus a fan of his return, but I think it’s going to take a lot more than sandwich boy to get me back into the show.  Once again it was all recycled storylines.  There were a lot of writers that were let go at the time of the strike.  Unfortunately it seems that perhaps the wrong writers were dismissed.  Have they already run out of ideas? Here’s a hint – go watch “Betty la Fea” – there has to be a few storylines from the original series that you can pull from.  Stop with this repetitive, unfunny nonsense!
  • Grey’s Anatomy was pretty good last night.  A nice blend of the comedy with the drama.  Bailey giving her vajay-jay speech to Callie was awesome, as was the kid’s reaction to seeing the guy with no face.  Anyone else seeing George as a Pediatrician? He certainly has a way with kids.  The best days of Grey’s is behind them, but I still enjoy the characters enough to tune in every week.  At least there wasn’t a major disaster to deal with…other than Callie and Hahn’s love life?  I’m all for loving who you want, but I just don’t buy it that Callie is into Hahn.  Here’s to hoping things go well at the Embassy.

  • SNL Weekend Update Thursday was ok.  I find it interesting (interesting bad, not interesting good) that they still feel there is humor and relevance in having Darryl Hammond on impersonating Jesse Jackson.  I understand they have to use what they have, but Jesse Jackson?  Come on, you can do better than that.  I’m a Daily Show girl, so I often find Weekend Update a bit irrelevant.  A nice try, but let’s face it, the recetn SNL success come down to two words: Tina Fey.
  • I gave Kath & Kim another shot last night. Yup, that’s all that needs to be said there.
  • With all this TV watching I was still popping over to check out my Sox last night.  It was painful to watch…until it wasn’t.  How amazing was that come back?  Being down 7 runs I never expected them to come back.  But they did and it was damn fun to watch.  Nice job boys.  Keep the momentum up down there in Tampa.  GO SOX!!!

Oh – if you’re watching Life on Mars chime in and let me know what you think.  Adding another show on Thursday is tough, but if you all think it’s worth my time, then maybe I’ll tune in.  Thoughts?

That’s a lot of TV for one night. What did YOU watch?  Speak your TV infested mind in the comments.

I really, really liked Grey’s last night. Bailey’s facial expressions made me laugh and giggle and even snort a whole lot. But I’m still a bit bugged by the Callie/Hahn thing. Not because of what it is (because I’m certainly not the straightest girl around), but because I think Hahn is way more in love with Callie than vise versa. It’s going to suck if Callie realizes she doesn’t like her trip “South of the border” and to the “Northern mountains” and ends up breaking Hahn’s heart.

Bailey was by far my favourite person in this episode. Along with George, that is. I LOVE George. I could definitely see him taking up Pediatrics, as he seems to have a way with kids. Especially the adorable Duncan. Seriously – that faceless guy scared the CRAP out of me! I have no idea how Duncan was able to think it was cool.

I was seriously considering giving up on this show, especially hearing Ducky dare you to do the same … but I’m glad I watched last night’s episode, as it restored my faith that everything is NOT about Meredith Grey.

Okay, so I watched Kath and Kim for the first time last night. What a horrible horrible show. If it lasts much longer I will be shocked.

I’m really liking Life on Mars. I’ve never seen the British version though- so I don’t know how it compares. But I’m really enjoying it. I’m kinda glad I have something else to watch on Thursdays now

I haven’t watched last night’s Grey’s or Life on Mars yet so I only skimmed your post to avoid spoilers, but wanted to chime in quickly. I would *definitely* recommend getting on the Life on Mars bandwagon. The first episode was the best first episode of a show I’ve seen in a LONG time. Possibly since Six Feet Under. I was thoroughly impressed.

And FWIW, I’d never seen the british version.

GMMR, I am so glad you loved the Ricky Gervais Special! A few friends and I flew in to LA to watch his show and we had such a great time. He was so great. And who knew he had such a star following? Vince Vaughn was sitting a couple of rows ahead of us and when we went to get drinks during one of the intermissions, we ran into him, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Jamie Lee Curtis, Craig Robinson and Ryan Gosling. Wow, I sound like DB!Ryan, right now. Anyway, we felt out of place but the show was great!

I know it was silly, and not an accurate portrayal of McCain, but I found the stuff about Joe the Plumber being McCain’s imaginary friend to be very funny. And while I had to pause and go youtube “McCain crazy lady,” in order to get who was being impersonated later in the show, I found that funny too “Obama associates with terriers.”

Bailey was awesome on Grey’s. I don’t buy Callie being into Hahn either. I think they should’ve just kept her with Sloan. I liked them.

I watched Kath & Kim (both episodes so far) and wow – seriously??? This is the show? Selma Blair’s character is so ridiculous that I can’t believe she agreed to play it. I’m a fan of hers normally, but this was painful to watch and I can’t go through it again, so if it does last till next week, I won’t be watching. I’ve never seen the Australian version that inspired it, but I have to believe it had more to it than what we’ve seen on the US version – what a waste of talent (all of the leads are actors I respect)!!!

I really like Life on Mars. Almost didn’t watch, but I am really enjoying seeing how life has changed in the last 25 years in relation to women and cops and just people in general, and of course the technology.
Grey’s Anatomy was pretty good. I thought George was great and also thought he would make a fabulous pediatric surgeon.
I do like election stuff on SNL, but I wasn’t a fan of the McCain thing, because many people look to these shows for their news, and that skit really came across as if he made the guy up.

I love Grey’s the last episode was great! I have to start off with Bailey, when Callie tried to talk to Dr. Bailey and Bailey just stared at her. Hilarious. Yay for bringing back the term Va Jay Jay. It was great!
Cristina going into the dermatology wing of the hospital made me want to jump into my car and go to the local hospital and see if they had all the luxuries as well.
But I was glad to see George get back into the action! I can so see him going into Pediatrics he was so great with the Kid.
I do have to say that 5.2 seconds of seeing the guys face off grossed me out so that I had to hide under the covers!
Haha Kimber: I so agree with you on Callie/Erica’s relationship. Erica is so into and Callie just looks like a deer in caught in headlights. I hope that Erica doesn’t get hurt if Callie doesn’t like her trip South of the border.
