Straight No Chaser: 12 Days of Christmas

Straight No Chaser

Thanksgiving is over and with the last bite of turkey comes the start of the holiday season.  For me, the holiday season is all about playing one of my favorite YouTube videos over and over again with no guilt.  I know I’ve posted it before, but it’s worth a second third fourth as many looks as it can get.

Presenting Straight No Chaser’s “12 Days of Christmas”

From the official Straight No Chaser website:
Originally formed a dozen years ago while students together at Indiana University, the a cappella group has reassembled and reemerged after their video for ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ became a phenomenon with almost 8 million views on YouTube. In an era when so much pop music is the product of digital processing and vocal pro-tooling, Straight No Chaser is the real deal- the captivating sound of ten unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense…and with a sense of humor. Buy it now: Straight No Chaser “Holiday Spirits”

(GMMR makes no money from the sale of this album.  The inner Gleeker in me just wants the boys to do well.)

If you are a fan, get lost in the Straight No Chaser world on YouTube including interviews, and webisodes documenting their reunion.

I love SNC. The group actually continued at IU obviously replacing those as they graduated. Some friends from hs were a part of this group when they attended IU and I saw them perform in college and I can tell you this group was still amazing (even without these original members). I love listening to them!

As a lover of all things a capella and choir related – thank you – this was a fantastic little surprise.

Sounds very much like the CU Buffoons.
Might have to add a new CD to my collection.

I’ve been at IU for 6 years so far (undergrad and grad…) and still need to go to an SNC concert. From what I know, tickets for the current group sell out quickly and lines form before they open the doors. I’m in serious need of Christmas music, so I may have to buy this CD…

Wow! They’re amazing!! I seem to be able to sublimate my intense love for a capella music for great periods of time, but then something like this comes into my path, and I’m caught again.
    So good, so funny!
Thanks for sharing this – how much do you love the Christmas season?!

If you lived in the dorms while they were at IU (like I did) then you’d just think they were really annoying…
