GOSSIP GIRL Says Goodbye to the Not So Dearly Departed

Gossip Girl Cast

We must talk about last night’s GOSSIP GIRL.  Honestly, I haven’t decided if I loved it or hated it yet.  There was a LOT of overacting, and a lot of just weak writing, but then there was also that sometimes comical, sometimes heartbreaking performance by Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass).

Basshole Sr. is dead.  His body isn’t even cold yet (I’m talking literally here), before Lily decides that she’s going to make a go of it with Rufus.  That was until the mystery surrounding Lily’s French hospitalization is revealed – she and Rufus had a baby together!!  While it’s not majorly shocking, I’m not sure if I saw that one coming.  Rufus is pissed. But I’m left wondering when we’ll meet the newest (or rather original) member of the van der Woodsen-Humphrey family.  And will he/she Van Der Humphrey think it odd that his/her brother and sister have banged?  Intriguing.

Speaking of Dan and Serena – just when we got our hopes up that their longing glances would mean the end of Aaron, Lily announces (again) that she’s in love with Rufus, thus dashing all hopes.  It’s not that I find Dan and Serena to be this great couple, it’s just that I find Aaron so very boring that I’d pretty much encourage any reason for Aaron to go buh-bye.

If and when Aaron departs (please let it be sooner rather than later), he can under no circumstances take his father with him.  Blair’s new step-daddy is a peach and I love how Blair interacts with him. He really does care for her and Eleanor.  Aw.

And Blair…oh Blair, I know how hard it was for you to open up and finally tell Chuck that you loved him, only to be rebuffed. He was grieving, cut him some slack.  He came back to you when he needed you and that’s all you should be worried about.

Poor, poor Chuck.  He is now an orphan. For what it’s worth, I think he’s better off.  His father caused him nothing but pain.  Here’s to hoping Chuck works through his issues and stays part of the Van Der Woodsen family.  Bravo to Ed Westick for pulling off some seriously incredible acting last night.  There were moments that the act of a grieving son almost looked like a villain from a comic book, but all was forgiven when he showed up in Blair’s bedroom.  There may have been a few tears.  I’m not dead inside people.

Enough with my babbling.  Speak up or forever hold your…oh forget it, just talk to me.  Your thoughts on the almost pairing of Serena and Dan?  The almost pairing of Lily and Rufus?  What about the Van Der Humphrey offspring that lingering in Dramaville?  Most importantly…can we talk about the fact that we were asked to believe that Jenny came up with Eleanor’s wedding attire in one night?  Come on.  The black eyeliner is powerful, but it ain’t that good.

Loved the episode! Blair and Chuck are finally getting the storylines they deserve and the scenes where Blair says those 3 little words only to have Chuck show up in her bedroom were heartbreaking. Now if we can only focus more on them, get rid of Aaron, and have Serena and Dan come to a decision about their relationship. Are we really to believe that just because their parents love each other they can’t be a couple? Wait until they find out they share a sibling. And could Chuck please apologize to Andrew? I liked that relationship.

Just reading over what I wrote. Ok, I didn’t hate it. Not even in the littlest bit. But I do think there were more than a few things wrong with last night’s episode. I can stand by that.

From what I understand, Aaron was a big part of the book series. Can anyone elaborate? I wonder if he is a long haul character. And I wonder if the audience reception of him will impact the writers room.

And Ashley, who is Andrew? Am I forgetting someone? Do you mean Erik?

Yes, I meant Erik. I never get his name right 🙂

Ed Westwick blew me away last night, this show has become one of my top 5 favorites right now!!!

Not a great episode, but the Blair/Chuck scene on the bed got me…and I’m not even a huge fan of the pairing.

    Aaron cannot leave soon enough!

Ok, I have to say that I really, really enjoyed tonight’s episode!!!! One of my fav’s. I LoVe (no pun intended) how they are developing Blair and Chuck’s characters. I don’t know if another VM fan’s out there would agree with me but, I feel that B/C duo is reminiscent to my fav couple Logan/Veronica from VM. Any one else agree? or disagree? I’m not saying its exactly the same but its like they have the Veronica 2.0 version w/ Logan. or I’m really insane and miss VM so much that I’m imagining things

I loved the episode! I was impressed with Ed’s acting. It was a bit much, but so is everything that Chuck does. Of course he would take grieving to the extreme too. And when he was in Blair’s room and they just hugged?! I was teary eyed.

I thought that there were a lot of things that were unrealistic:
Why would not be with a boy just because your parents were going to date? It would be weird, but still.
Lily running away with Rufus like 5 days after her husband passed away is a little fast. Plus, did anyone else figure out that it would mean that she would be leaving Erik (and an imbalanced Chuck) alone for Christmas.

Overall though it was a great episode. Dan and Serena actually talked, Blair said the 3 words, we found out Lily’s secret, and the moment that Blair and her stepfather had was really nice.

I loved the episode. I thought the scenes between Chuck and Blair were fantastic. They did a good job of playing off each other. Ed looked like he could have fitted nicely in the new Twilight movie.
I hope Aaron ditches Serena in Buenos Aires.

GMMR, I know this comment is like a million years after the fact, but yes book Aaron stays around for while, but he’s not nearly as repulsive as TV Aaron.

The series actually starts off with cyrus and eleanor already married, and Aaron is secretly in love with Blair. He then dates Serena and then moves on to Vanessa.
