HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Hits the Tabloids

January 10, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, How I Met Your Mother, TV News

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is back with an all new episode on Monday night, and there will be a few (unfortunately) familiar faces popping up. Reality “stars” Kim Kardashian, Kendra Wilkinson, and ugh Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt will all be guesting as themselves. The producers are lucky I love this show so very much because otherwise I’d be tempted to skip it just out of principle.

In Monday’s episode, Ted and Robin become “friends with benefits” to deal with conflicts they’re having around the apartment. Barney tries to resolve the issues so they’ll stop hooking up. Which is awesome because that means we are going to see some Barney/Robin interaction, which I’ve been waiting quite some time for. I love the version of Barney who is in love with Robin.

Meanwhile, “reality” stars get too real for Marshall when they taunt him from the pages of his magazine.

By the looks of the scene and featurette below, the reality starlets have a very limited role in an episode which looks otherwise very promising

30 ROCK — “Senor Macho Solo”

January 9, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, 30 Rock

At last! Our long 30 ROCK holiday has ended, and the start of a brand new year brings fresh opportunities for all: love interests for Liz and Jack, a possible Janis Joplin headliner for Jenna, and plenty of loud quasi-public desk sex for Tracy and his wife.

Liz’s ongoing (and slightly feral) baby obsession has her fondling every infant, toddler, and little person in sight, which is what leads her to mistakenly pat UN delegate Stuart LaGrange (Peter Dinklage) on the head at a streetlight. Thank goodness our quick-thinking Lemon is aces at turning her own PC faux-pas into lemonade (sorry), as she finds herself ensnared in one more half-hearted relationship based almost entirely on her guilty conscience. Alas, their love match is doomed from the start when she persists in smothering the poor guy with her best intentions: “What if I order a tall coffee, or talk about my Nintendo Wii?” she asks Jenna, before rescuing Stuart from the flames of a street vendor’s grill and warning him to be careful crossing the street. (Especially good was her assumption that Kenneth thinks Stuart is a troll when he asks what it’s like to live under the Williamsburg bridge.) The callback at the end was nice, too, as she mistakes another young tot for Stuart, effectively sabotaging her own “SATC”-style happy reunion as only Liz Lemon can.

Will GREY’S ANATOMY Ever Come Back to Us?

January 9, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, Grey's Anatomy

I had the strangest sensation while putting together yesterday’s ‘TV Spotlight’.  It was something I hadn’t felt in quite a long time (…and let me stop you right there you dirty birds) – I’m talking about the feeling of excitement I had when I realized there was a new episode of GREY’S ANATOMY. I was genuinely looking forward to seeing the Seattle Grace crew back in action.  I haven’t felt that way in a long time.

Then I watched the episode.  The excitement I was feeling dissipated within the first few minutes.

I can’t be bothered to spend a lot of time thinking about just what has gone wrong with GREY’S ANATOMY.  The show has just completely lost its spark.  There were so many little things that came together to make the show so special in the early days, and now there’s nearly a hint of that anywhere save a few scenes with Dr. Bailey and the occasional dalliances with Callie and Mark.

In it’s first few seasons GREY’S had mastered the combination of drama and humor.  The sharp dialogue pierced through to your heart and you were left crying real tears of sadness or laughter. The characters were interesting and the patients coming through the hospital doors were complex and valuable in furthering the themes of the episode. Now I struggle to even see a point in the stories they are trying to tell, none the less a thematic arc.

The Return of BONES: One Week & Counting

January 8, 2009 by

What is happening, BONES watchers! Are you as excited as I am for new BONES episodes? We are now just one week from an all new episode. One Week!

When our show does return, it’s going to be back on Thursday nights. A very crowded Thursday night TV schedule, so we are going to need everyone to watch.

To get everyone excited I thought I would share a little recap on what’s gone on this season so far. And if you’re interested in finding out what’s coming up in the next few new episodes, then continue reading after the jump.

The Cases…
They’ve been okay this season, but they’ve taken a backseat to the relationships on the show. But you gotta give BONES chops. They’ve managed to cover dog fighting, transgenderism, the world of the stuffy English and a body in an airplane microwave. It’s no “Aliens in a Spaceship”, but I’m not complaining.

The Squints…
Zack never killed a guy, and only Sweets knows it. Sweets has been on top of his game this season, but no one is listening. Except maybe Angela. But is she listening to her heart or her hurt? And Hodgins…He’s lost his best friend and his girl, but he’s trying to stay cool. Cam’s keeping it all together, for the most part, and showing she’s a good friend to Booth these days. Also in the mix is a revolving door of wannabe squints/grad students.

Booth & Brennan…
They are still themselves, somehow misunderstanding one another, yet still knowing each other best. They are getting closer, and it’s interesting to me that both seem to be taking risks where the other is concerned. I’m happy with their continued progression.

How do you think the season has gone thus far?  Are you excited for the show to come back?
