UPDATE: Looking to find who went home on IDOL? Click here for tonight’s shocking results: Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL? (March 11, 2010)

——————-

PREVIOUS POST

This first official booting of the 8th season of AMERICAN IDOL and tonight’s it’s two for the price of one.  Which two IDOL hopefuls will be going home tonight? My guess what Jasmine and Megan.  Was I wright?  Were you? Let’s find out. I’m live blogging tonight’s AMERICAN IDOL.

Big news for IDOL…
Seacrest just informed us of a new rule.  The IDOL judges are allowed ONE save from now up until the Top 5.  This means that if America decides to send someone home and the judges don’t agree with the verdict, the judges can vote to veto America’s vote.  But they only get one veto for the whole season.  And when the veto is used, the next week two IDOL wannabes will be offed.

Interesting.  I’m going to have to think about how I feel about this one.  I think I kind of like it since America has got it wrong so often in the past. What do you think?

Welcome to Casa de Idol…
The IDOLS are once again shacking up.  In the early seasons the contestants were all living together in harmony under one roof. Tales of drama and sexcapades plagued the contestants in the tabloids but none of that ever made it to the show itself (thankfully). In later seasons the contestants weren’t required to live together but for some reasons the producers thought they need to do it again.  I don’t really see the point of having them live together. This isn’t The Real World.  And what about Jasmine and Allison?  Are these teens now living with guys in their 20’s? Bizarre.

9:15pm
– The recap of last night’s performances, a cheesy group performance and the (ugh) Ford music video take up a good ten minutes. The IDOLS are excited. Wait until they have to do that every week.

9:17pm – The first set of results are in. Keep reading after the jump to find out who went home.

Which IDOLS are moving on and which ones are going home? Let’s find out.

  • Michael Sarver – SAFE
  • Allison Iraheta – SAFE
  • Jasmine Murray – NOT SAFE
  • Matt Giraud – SAFE
  • Kris Allen – SAFE
  • Megan Joy Corkrey – NOT SAFE (Since when is Megan just going by Megan Joy? Did I miss that memo?)

9:18pm – MEGAN is safe!! Jasmine is headed home. The judges aren’t going to use the Golden Power of Veto on Jasmine. (Wow, things are moving on quickly tonight)

[Aw, Seacrest was so sweet. As Jasmine became emotional, Ryan could be heard whispering in her ear to be strong and reminded her of all that she accomplished at such a young age.  Aw, dirty Uncle Ryan, you can be adorable.]

9:24pm – Who will be joining Jasmine on that long journey home?  We’ve got Danny, Adam, Anoop, Alexis, Lil, Scott, Jorge left. I guess I’ll got with Jorge. Who will join him in the bottom will be very telling.

9:30pm – Kanye is singing and thankfully he’s about a million times better tonight than the last time I watched him live which was on SNL. Whatevs, bring on Kelly Clarkson!!

9:38pm – We’re back at it.

  • Scott MacIntyre – SAFE
  • Alexis Grace – SAFE
  • Danny Gokey – SAFE
  • Anoop Desai – NOT SAFE
  • Adam Lambert – SAFE
  • Jorge Nunez – NOT SAFE
  • Lil Rounds – SAFE

9:42pm – So it’s either Anoop or Jorge going home tonight. I loved Jorge’s voice but I hope Anoop is around for another round. The votes are in and it’s ??? going home tonight. (We’ll find out after the break)

9:47pm – Every week the show is going to bring back an IDOL alum (YES!!).  Tonight it’s Kelly. Ms. Clarkson if you’re nasty. Oh I am thrilled.  I’ve been listening to Kel’s new album non-stop since it came out yesterday morning.  Love it! I can’t wait for Kelly to go on tour – count me in for seats up front again!

9:55pm – Ok now it’s time for one of the boys to go home.  And Anoop is…..SAFE! YES!  So that means we’re saying goodbye to Jorge Nunez. You did well. I wish we could have seen more of you, but I think it was the right choice. Sadly he’s singing “Never Can Say Goodbye” as his goodbye song.  D’oh.

What do you think about Jasmie and Jorge going home?  Did America get it right?

I hope they send Paula home. Also, Kanye makes my ears bleed when he sings live.

    Happy live blogging!

Why is Kanye so TERRIBLE live?! I thought SNL was a fluke. I’ve been reassured that I don’t like him for a reason. Stick a knife in him he’s bad.

Nice call on Jasmine, Kath! The voting has always been difficult to gauge in these early stages.

I’m on the West Coast and now I don’t have to watch. THANKS! Any chance you can live blog every week. It gives me an hour back into my day. I love watching the performances but I think the results show is a joke. Thanks for all your IDOL coverage. I know it’s not for everyone but I love that I can talk about the show here without any guilt.

Jasmie and Jorge were the right two to go home. Those were the four I would put in the bottom this week. Anoop has to have an awesome week next week or he’ll be going home.

I think it should have been Ricky instead of Jasmine, so I’m glad she went home…however I wanted Michael to go instead of Jorge…somwhere Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez aren’t very happy…

  9. Ms. Blackberry on March 11th, 2009 10:25 pm

Dats so good Jorge went home.. However i think Megan shouldve went wit him. I think Jasmaine couldve done better But theres no tyme for singin the wrong song, so she shouldve went like she did.

  10. Sarah on March 11th, 2009 11:47 pm

yes. i think the decision was great! those ppl werent going to last long neways, so might as well take em out now! and anoop! yay! go him! but idk if hes going to stick around very long either……=(

i though Jazmine should have went home. I was a big fan of Jorge but based on his performance he deserved to go home.

    GO ADAM LAMBERT!! <3

These were good choices although I think they both seem like nice people, so it is sad. Glad to see Anoop around for another week, he’s fun to watch. I FF’d through Kanye but Kelly, wow, she was stellar and man I think she sang that live. She has amazing power and I love the song.

I was confused about the new rule but I get it now, I’ll call it the “Daughtry clause” – they know, we know, that at the end sometimes folks call to save a dark horse at the expense of the real talent – Taylor Hicks anyone? He never should have won.

  13. Michele on March 12th, 2009 8:50 am

I think the right two went home. It’s surprising that Kanye still attempts to sing live – he is so awful! And on a show that (supposedly) prizes vocal talent above everything else….pitiful. Kelly Clarkson, however? Awesome! She kills it live, every time.

  14. Cathy on March 12th, 2009 11:20 am

I found it odd that they kept talking about when Chris Daughtry went home early as one of the reasons for this rule. Wasn’t he 4th? The judges overrule can’t be used past the top 5. So Chris Daughtry would still be screwed (actually, he wasn’t screwed at all and probably did better not winning, just like Jennifer Hudson, but whatever)

  15. jayden on March 12th, 2009 1:39 pm

You guys suck. Jasmine should still be here. She has a beautiful voice. Jasmine don’t give up girl hey look at Jennifer Hudson she was voted off, but is now a GREAT recording artist…

  16. GMMR on March 12th, 2009 1:46 pm

Maybe you could be a little more respectful. We don’t suck because we have a difference of opinion. Jennifer Hudson is and was a much better singer than Jasmine. Everyone talks about how Jennifer Hudson went home too soon and maybe she did, but Jennifer Hudson has grown as an artist so much since her IDOL days. She was talented then but she wasn’t at the level that she is now. Go back and watch her IDOL performances.

  17. Alison on March 12th, 2009 7:23 pm

Totally agree with Cathy. I think it was silly they used Chris Daughtry as an example since he left fourth, so if they would have had the rule that season, it wouldn’t have ‘saved’ him anyway. He’s still the best Idol from that season anyway. The show really has become more of a jumping off point for people. Sure, you get the benefit of the most exposure from the American Idol people if you win, but certain non-winners have shown they can still be very successful without the “crown.” 🙂
