Bruno & Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards: What Happened?

June 1, 2009 by

Reports coming from those attending the MTV movie awards say that the altercation between Sacha Baron Cohen’s alter ego, Bruno, and Eminem was indeed real. Some say that Marshall Mathers was indeed pissed and really did storm out of the theater. I’m not sure I believe it.

Oh wait, you don’t know what happened? My bad. In short, Bruno clad in only angel wings and a thong descended down upon the audience after the harness holding him up lost control. And it just so happened that his ass landed in the face of Eminem. Planned or not, it was rather disgusting. Em demanded that his crew get Baron off of him. One they did, Em and his guys were seen leaving the theater.

Here’s what I don’t get though. Did camera just happen to show Eminem right before Baron was flying down? And was it just a coincidence that a camera was right there when Eminem left his seats and walked out of the theater? Perhaps.

Take a look and watch for yourself.

What do YOU think? Was it real or was it staged?

Thanks to Reina for passing the video along.

I think it was staged because the cameras obviously knew exactly where Eminem was going to storm off through. If it wasn’t planned, Eminem would have gotten up when he saw this person falling from the ceiling right on top of him. I would have done the same! Still funny though…

There are multiple cameras positioned all through out the theatre during an awards show so that they can capture the faces of various folks in the audience at any given time. So it is not strange, coincidental or out of the ordinary for a camera to be where it was, when it was. Even if it wasn’t exactly right there at first, they had plenty of time to position one by Em’s seat as “Bruno” made his decent. I don’t think it was staged. He really isn’t that good an actor. I don’t think he is capable of holding a poker face that long. If it were staged, he would have smirked or cracked a quick smile, but that looked like genuine rage to me. Nonetheless, it was funny as hell. Hopefully Eminem will be a good sport about it later, after he’s had a chance to sleep on it. He’s young, he’ll adjust. He may be the butt of many jokes for awhile though….

obviously eminem wouldnt let anyone make a fool out of him like that. i bet sacha told someone what he was gonna do beforehand. my guess is that em’s next single is gonna thrash sacha.

I don’t know if Eminem was in on it, his “crew” was none too gentle getting Bruno off, but I’m sure MTV and Bruno were in on it.

I love how Zac Ephron is not sure if he should actually go onto the stage or what.

…I think Sacha Baron Cohen and MTV staged it, but Eminem knew nothing about it…and I don’t think it was funny, I thought it was disgusting and gross; maybe, maybe I could have thought of this as funny if Bruno had landed on Em’s lap, kinda like an overgrown baby, but what happened was gross, gross, gross…

  11. Ferret on June 1st, 2009 9:46 am

i also think mtv and sasha planned it without eminem knowing.

  12. Kevin on June 1st, 2009 10:12 am

It was obviously real because eminem wouldn’t say motherfucker on live tv

  13. MasterK9_ATL on June 1st, 2009 10:50 am

Eminem just recognized his face in the mirror…

i think it was soo not planned it was halarious but still very shocking eminem lost it ,, and his guards too …very funny though

  15. ryan h on June 1st, 2009 6:37 pm

For one thing, Efron was definitely not in on it. He was clueless as hell and he is no way good enough of an actor to pull that off. I also think em’s crew was pretty rough. But then again im still skeptical, im going toward mtv planned it w/o em’s consent

  16. Sara on June 1st, 2009 7:46 pm

It also appeared that Eminem had a mic on. Why would that happen if nothing was planned?

  17. Magdalena on June 1st, 2009 8:46 pm

what happened during the MTV movie awards was NOT funny i think it was soo disrespectful towards Eminem you don’t do that to anyone without a prior notice and even so… who would do that?

  18. bojiggler on June 1st, 2009 10:23 pm

man, i just got done watching the whole show and that was probably the best part of it all. i’m pretty sure sacha was in on it with mtv and it was suppost to be a joke but eminem apparantly doesn’t like ass in his face.

Andy Samburg’s head writer has told people that it was indeed staged completely and that Eminem was completely aware of what would happen because they rehearsed it. Most of the “big names” came, did their thing and left. TVGuide.com has the info. People are also saying that Eminem was already mic’d.

Your argument for it being real because Eminem wouldnt say motherfucker on live T.V. is stupid. I am pretty sure he would say much more than that…without an ass in his face. so find another possible reason for it being real and get back to us. Ignorant fuck.

  21. meh on June 2nd, 2009 2:53 pm

Lelts be clear about 2 things: the Bruno-Eminem bit was totally real. And there are WMDs in Iraq, they just have not be found yet…

Let’s think about this situation logically. Knowing Eminem for a long time now and the way he is, if he doesn’t like fruity looking boybands, if he doesn’t like a nerdy looking Moby, and if he thinks ICP are gays in make-up, why would anyone believe that he would think it’s cool to have a grown man’s bare ass in his face by a guy pretending to be gay? Whether Eminem wanted to find ways to give himself some sort of an ultimate comeback, I don’t think doing something as gross as having a man’s bare ass and genitals shoved in your face is something him or anyone for that matter would agree on. Plus his “posse” D12, aren’t even actors, they’re a music group, so do you honestly believe that these guys, with their anger and violent ways towards Sacha, were just given pure acting abilities overnight? Wake up people, yes MTV and Sacha planned all this out, but was Eminem in on the stunt, I don’t think so. You need to know when someone’s faking the funk and when someone is obviously surprised and angered, so what do you believe Em would be?

Bruno’s Eminem stunt was staged, says MTV boss
The stunt involving Sacha Baron Cohen’s film character Bruno landing on Eminem during the MTV Movie Awards last week (May 31) was staged, MTV head writer Scott Aukerman has confirmed.
Writing on his Tumblr.com account (on a post since removed), Aukerman said that both Eminem and Baron Cohen had rehearsed the stunt, which saw the comedian lowering his backside into the rapper’s face.
“Yes, the Bruno/Eminem incident was staged,” he wrote. “That’s all anyone wants to talk about, so let’s get it out of the way. They rehearsed it at dress and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show then.”
Fans had been speculating about whether Eminem was in on the stunt. Many pointed out that he must have been as he appeared to be mic’d up when the incident took place, mid-way through the Independent ceremony in Hollywood.

On Bruno’s bhalf, it was definately staged. But on Eminem’s bhalf, that was totally real. If u r a fan of Sacha’s “art”, u will no thats how he operates. U can tell itz real after he lands on Em and after he says “hi Eminem, pleased 2 meet u” n hs fake Austrian accent. Em says “r u serious?” then “Bruno” nevously (4 a second) slips outta character and says “wutz up” n his natural accent. And who is dis unofficial writer from MTV sayin it ws staged. How come he’s nt sayin it on every website except da MTV website?!
