Warehouse 13

Warehouse 13

res·o·nate : \ˈre-zə-ˌnāt\ intransitive verb

1: to produce or exhibit resonance

2: to respond as if by resonance ;to have a repetitive pattern that resembles resonance

3: to relate harmoniously : strike a chord

This show has heart, and I love it. Without being too heavy handed, it managed to weave an interesting case with a more in depth look at just what makes Pete and Myka tick (He plays the piano! She sings in the shower!).

The episode starts out with Eddie McClintock and “previously on Warehouse 13”. If you missed the pilot, check out the GMMR review https://www.givememyremote.com/remote/warehouse-13-an-invitation-to-endless-wonder/ .

And then we’re in Chicago, where some women and a man in black are about to rob a bank. But they don’t use guns, so far as we can tell, but they do kind of look like Darth Vader.

Switch fast to Warehouse 13, and Pete is playing some ping pong. Against Pete. Is it sad that I would watch a Pete vs. Pete match for hours? That was rad.

Meanwhile, Artie is mad because his (outdated?…i don’t buy it) computers aren’t cooperating with him. He and the lovely Leena realize they are being hacked. Also unlikely.

Myka gets hit in the head with Pete’s football, and Artie sends them to Chicago. Once they are there, a warmer, less Secret Service looking Myka and a charming, stunned by a nice pair of legs, Pete meet their government competition in the form of Agent Bonnie Belski, played by BSG’s lovely Tricia Helfer.

All in all a good cold open leading to some sweet opening creds. I’m still in for the ride. Are you?

Very quickly, I just want to mention the one tiny piece of too much exposition that came with Pete and Agent Belski on the stakeout where she gave him the 411 on Myka and “Denver”. But I liked Pete doesn’t even flinch. In his eyes, she did the best she could.

The only other misstep for me was the Artie/Dickinson story line. It felt kind of like manufactured ‘spy stuff’, and maybe it will be something that is an ongoing story line this season, but as far as this episode goes, it didn’t seem to fit. Thoughts from you? (side note, though…that ‘freeze camera? Holy cow, right?….freaking awesome!)

I love how Pete and Myka seem to have agreed to like each other. It’s a brother sister type thing, but I really enjoyed their friendship in this episode. They tease and trust each other and have each other’s back when it counts. He pushes her to talk about her family sitch, and she gives him crap about Agent Belski , but we get the sense that they are really trying to give this partnership thing a chance. They don’t always get along, but they are honest with each other.

And…that is what will keep people coming back. I, like a lot of you, I’d be willing to guess, appreciate honesty. Honesty in characters and storylines and resolutions.

And the Eric Marsden storyline was just that…honest. THAT is what resonates. Marsden is an almost paralyzed personality, whose beautiful, heartfelt music is being used for a potential evil, robbing banks. But the victims, like Laura, the bank teller, can only describe the sensation as ‘being loved’. So who is the good guy here? Who’s in the wrong? When the show revealed the suspect’s faces 35 minutes into the episode, I was confused, but the ending scene in the piano room was bittersweet. Again…who is right, who is wrong?

In the end, it’s not our decision, Pete tells us. They’re just there for the artifact. But we know that’s not entirely true. Because Myka comes to terms with some of her family issues. It’s not perfect, but it’s a step. And Pete’s right behind her. I like them.

So maybe it really is about the music. Maybe it’s really never about the money. Or maybe it really is about family. And finding your place in the world, with people you can trust. People, who when you’re with them, ‘strike that chord’.

That’s the real key to the human heart.

Second week thoughts?

I’ll see you next week…

I thought the episode was very pulling. The one part that makes me really want to watch the show is, like you said, the characters. There’s something about them that gives me this whole “famliy fun” or “I’m going to become very obessed with this show” type of feel. The Warehouse has this sort of Steampunk feel to it, more so with Artie’s equipment.(Which is why I’m amazed when he starts talking bad about it. If it was me I’d me thrilled to even have it!) Which is a good thing, I like it. One thing you forgot to mention was when Artie got shocked. He did this weird backflash thing, but not into a backflash that we know of. It might not have been a backflash at all to our knowledge.

I do want that piece of music. It was very beautiful and it really tied everything together in the end. So if someone ever find a copy, let me know!

And yes, Myka is right. I sound amazing in the shower. (Poor Artie. He doesn’t sound good in the shower, doesn’t sleep… I feel bad for the guy!)

I am really enjoying this show. I don’t know if being able to tweet with my GMMR pals helps the obsession along but I will be back each week. I also like that I can watch episodes of this show more than once. I have watched the piolt twice and I will probably watch this episode again. They seem to be getting good guest stars too (at least for me. Hello Pizza Girl from October Road! I know everyone know Tricia Helfer but I was more excited about Pizza Girl and Justin’s mom from QAF in the pilot)

Warehouse 13 seems to have a heart too. It’s pulling me. That’s a good thing.

I really enjoyed this episode. I think I’m definitely going to be liking the show. And that they decided to leave the robbers alone and not turn them in. Loved that. And I like their interaction. And after he heard the happy music and was all flirty – I liked that.

I thought the FBI agent saying that stuff about denver was a little off. What killed me was her use of the word “scuttlebutt” She looked like someone who would NEVER EVER use that word. So I kinda got hung up there.

I think Artie chasing the hacker will probably be an ongoing thing – and I think it’s interesting that Dickenson is still around. I didn’t expect him once he let go of his agents.

I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

    Thanks for the recap

The song that Artie plays in the piano is called “crazier” by Taylor Swift. A piano version is in You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GvENkHNCCw

I do believe its a bad show because there are no “whats gonna happend now” feelings… They just run the show too fast… i think they need to slow down the scenes in order to play on the audiens so we can feel and think whats going on.
