Cat Deeley – So You Think You Can Dance

People – next week is the finale of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE! Is it just me or did this season absolutely fly by? At least we know we have Season 6 starting on the heels of this season ending. But before I get too ahead of myself, let’s see who is going home tonight and who ultimately will be the final four heading into next week.

If you listed to the SYTYCD Podcast then you probably know my faves as well as who I want to go home. The way I see it, I’m ok with anything really as long as Brandon and Kayla stick around. They both deserve to perform in next week’s finale.

I’m going to be live blogging tonight’s show starting at 9pm est. I hope you’ll watch along with me and join in on the conversation in the comments.

(Note: Having some issues with GMMR tonight, so I’ll do my best to live blog. But if I’m absent for a bit it’s just tech difficulties being worked out.)

9:01pm: Cat welcomes us to Oz in a stunning green sequined dress. Fierce.

9:03pm: Tyce Diorio brings us an AH-MAH-ZING group routine to ‘Send in the Clowns’. Interesting, gorgeous. Just lovely. But um, it’s going to prove to be especially insightful if Evan goes home tonight. The only clown left behind, with a sad tear coming down his face.

9:06pm: OH SNAP! How did I not know about this? More of the SYTYCD alums are going to be back performing the Emmy nominated routines. Twitch, Katee, Chelsie, Joshua and MARK!! My MARK!! This is going to be amazing. (I swear if GMMR goes down tonight I’m going to go Ms. Hanigan on some oprhan’s ass.)

[More…] 9:10pm: The ladies are up first on the chopping block. Who will be safe and who will be going home tonight. The first girl in next week’s finale is Jeanine. (WOO HOO!) and uh oh…I’m pulling for you Kayla!

9:15pm
: Jessica and Will are back to perform the Emmy nominated “Silence” by Tyce Dioro.

9:20pm: And we’re back. It’s time to let one guy know that he’ll be competiting for the title of America’s Favorite Dancer in next week’s finale. That guy is…Brandon!! (YES! YES! YES!)

9:26pm: Twitch and Katee are back to perform “Mercy” aka the Door Dance. One of the highlights of last season. Well done to the two of them and Mia Michaels who choreographed this killer routine.

9:37pm:: I’m going to have to skip right ahead to the Jabbawockeez. The winner’s of the first AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW took over the stage with their sick talent! Glad to see the dance show crossover love. Tonight e had them representing ABDC, Chelsie Hightower from DANCING WITH THE STARS performed a routine choreographed by her DWTS fellow dancer Dmitry Chaplin. It’s all kind of lovely in here tonight.

9:39pm: With all the site drama tonight, it just hit me that Mark Kanemura is back because we’re going to see the Briefcase Dance! Perhaps my favorite from last season! (Please site stay live!)

9:44pm: So good to see Mark & Chelsie back. And it looks like they were the only ones performing live tonight. Love that dance!!

9:54pm: It’s time to send a girl home. That girl is Melissa. That means KAYLA is in next week’s finale! YES! Kayla FTW next week!!!!!!

9:57pm: And for the guys, the dancer moving on to the finale is Evan! A fond farewell to Ade.

This is an all around awesome night. I knew I would be fine with either Ade or Evan. But I’m especially excited for Evan right now.

So your final four are KAYLA, EVAN, JEANINE and BRANDON. How are we feeling about this foursome?! I’m pretty excited. I think Jason should be there rather than Evan, but bygones…I’m looking forward to next week.

Sorry tonight’s blog was a major fail. Thanks for reading!!

See you next week for the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE finale!

GMMR! You’re up again! Yay!! And YAY for Janine! I love her! Kayla better be the second girl in the top. Cat’s dress is fantastic, and the clown routine … sad, but like Seeley Booth, clowns freak me out!

Ugh, this sucks. The site is staying up for 2 minutes at a time. GMMR FAIL! So sorry. I’m still writing even if it’s not posting, so I’ll have a full recap at some point.

Woo hoo! Hopefully the site is up and running for good now. I also had no idea there were more returning dancers tonight. I am so excited now! Definitely glad for Janine. Hopefully it will be Melissa leaving us tonight as I think Kayla certainly deserves to go to the finale. Cat is looking fierce!

Glad to see you’re up and running! Cat looks so pretty in green…. I’m nervous for Kayla…she better be in the final two!

  5. Kimber on July 30th, 2009 9:19 pm

Site seems ok now, Kath. Let’s hope it stays that way!

  6. Kimber on July 30th, 2009 9:27 pm

Just wanted to say … YAY BRANDON!! WOO HOO!! America has made two good choices so far … hope this keeps up! And also woo hoo for “Mercy”! Love that dance…

  7. Michelle on July 30th, 2009 9:37 pm

I’m happy for Brandon and am torn between Evan and Ade…I’d be happy with either guy in the final two but i’m pulling for Evan.

  8. Vanessa on July 30th, 2009 9:37 pm

Love the “Mercy” dance! I must say that I don’t really care which other guy makes it through. Ade is probably the better dancer, but Evan is just so lovable!

  9. Vanessa on July 30th, 2009 9:45 pm

Mark and Chelsea…Bleeding Love. Perfect! This ep is going to be on the DVR for awhile.

  10. Kimber on July 30th, 2009 9:46 pm

Wow – love the past dances – never seen a few of them before, but they are FANTASTIC! (Esp. “Bleeding Love”).

  11. Kimber on July 30th, 2009 9:57 pm

    YES!! YESSSSSS!! Good job America!!

  12. Vanessa on July 30th, 2009 9:59 pm

Good job indeed! I am happy with the top 4…not really sure who is going to win!

  13. Patty on July 31st, 2009 12:04 am

Totally happy with the top 4.

Can I say, with the returning dancers, to me, it’s that much more obvious what this season’s group is missing? Power and passion! I know they don’t have the time to spend on the choreography but I remember seeing those dances for the first time and having tears in my eyes I was so moved. There have been a couple of little (and I mean little ) glimpses of what could be this season but nothing like Mark, Twitch or Joshua and the shear PRESENCE they had last season. I loved Chelsea and Katie too.

Woo hoo Mark! Mark! – wow, he looks gorgeous as ever. Such a talent. Love, LOVE him!! Yay Mark!
Anyone know what he is up to lately?

  15. Kimber on July 31st, 2009 9:23 am

Very happy with the TOP 4. I still think Ade deserved it a bit more over Evan, but I’m ok with that. My big concerns were that Brandon, Kayla, and Jeanine made it – and two out of three made it right off the hop! So there was a lot of hootin’ and hollerin’ in my apartment last night.

  16. Michele on July 31st, 2009 10:08 am

Thanks for the live blog Kathy! ;0) I was SO excited to see more alums back, and the dance crew and the opening were also amazing. Such a great night for just a results show! I know I should be pulling for Evan since he is the winner of my fantasy pool, but I would have rathered seen Ade stay last night. Personally, I think Melissa should have left befrore Janette, but thats a complaint for another day!

  17. Jane on July 31st, 2009 11:10 am

I love, love, love, love, love the “Bleeding Love” piece! It was my favorite last year, it was my favorite when I saw last year’s tour, and I was so happy to see it again last night! Sigh…

I am also happy with the top four! All in all, a good night last night. 🙂

  18. Katie on July 31st, 2009 12:34 pm

I’m worried that what happened to Katee last season will happen to Kayla this season, though Twitch was much more deserving than Evan is, I feel as though it will go Jeanine, Kayla, Brandon, Evan….blah, yuck, gross.

On a more positive note, Bleeding Love was amazing, even better than the two times it was performed last season. Chelsea and Mark killed it!

  19. Mandy on July 31st, 2009 2:24 pm

Um your Mark GMMR? I don’t think so. He’s MY Mark. 😉 🙂 I love that man. I got so excited when Cat said they were back. I probably watched Bleeding Love about 10 times before I continued on with the show.

I’m happy with the Top 4. I think Brandon is going to win it all with Kayla as the runner up.

I listened to the podcast earlier, and I agree with you and Ducky. There is no Mark for me this season. I really connected with his dancing and personality, and he was my root for dude last year. I thought this year it was going to be Evan, but while I like him, he just didn’t really put himself out there. None of the dancers did.

ok… reminder to myself to read this thread before commenting in the other. I totally agree with Patty’s power and passion statement. I’m a little worried for the fall season now… when melissa said she had done hiphop once in a group routine as part of her goodbyes it reminded me of how one dimensional the dances were this season, and I kind of wonder if part of that is them trying to line up choreographers for auditions and the fall.

An impossibility, but my top four would have been Brandon, Jeanine, Janette, and Kayla.

I think the dancers should get individual awards for their strengths that they brought to the show this season:

Brandon was the best at partnering
Kayla was the best dancer (technique)
Jeanine was the best performer (emotion)
    Janette was the most versatile

For me, I wanted Janette to win, but beyond versatile, I really pull for the best performer so I am pulling for Jeanine for the WIN. We need to have a girl represent all the fabulous ladies that were on this season. Brandon/Kayla tie for second. I like that Kayla finally came out of her shell this week and began to show some personality.
