SYTYCD Canada Finale – Top Ten Routine by Mia Michaels

October 26, 2009 by

Our Canadian friends were treated to a very special Mia Michaels routine during the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Canada finale.  In the opening video, Mia mentions her resignation from the US version of SYTYCD and says that “this piece is representing that place where I was when I was making that decision”.

I’m still in disbelief that we won’t have Mia’s talent on our SYTYCD anymore, but at least we still have the beauty of this routine.  Simply stunning. So Mia.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Canada – “This Moment”

Thanks to @hockeybychoice for the tip on the video!

I simply can’t imagine the show without her. What a tremendous loss. :0( Also? Canada has much better camera work!!

There is something almost scary about how beautiful this ‘rebellion in perfect unison’ is. I loved this dance. Thanks for sharing, Kath. Thanks @hockeybychoice!

LOVED this piece! And love Mia, of course. This was the first season of SYTYCDC that I watched all the way through, and had favourites (didn’t win .. but oh well!). It was lovely to see Mia so much on the Canadian show, and as unfair as it is to the US show, hopefully she’ll keep appearing on our version!

Has anyone heard anything more about Mia’s back injury? Is she out of hospital yet?

ah nevermind, google is my friend.

    From yahoo.ca news:
“”She’s in so much pain and it kills me,” said Popowich. “She’s absolutely my idol and like, my God, so seeing her in so much pain just killed me.”

Michaels, who recently resigned from the U.S. version of the series, re-triggered a pre-existing back injury while choreographing a routine for the Top 10 of the Canadian show this week, said executive producer Sandra Faire.

When the pain became unbearable Saturday night, Michaels – who has won an Emmy Award for her choreography – was admitted to Toronto Western Hospital and released Sunday morning.

“She has either a herniated disc or a serious pinched nerve,” said Faire. “So she’s going to be in bed for a few days.”

Michaels did show up to the TV studios to be a part of Sunday’s finale, but had to return to her hotel room because “she could stand but she couldn’t sit,” said Faire.

“Other than that she’s in perfect health and feeling great.”

Michaels lives in Los Angeles and will “need a couple of days before she can sit on an airplane,” added Faire. “

Oh how terrible to hear. As someone going through the SAME exact thing now, the pain in unbearable. Here’s to a speedy recovery for Mia.

I absolutely love this. To me, it feels like the third piece in a series, which started with “Hide and Seek,” then continued with “The Moment I Said It,” and now is finally, sadly, ending here. The show definitely won’t be the same without Mia.

Did you see the piece she did for Canada’s top 3 girls? One of my favorites from her.
