PROJECT RUNWAY: Taking Your Best to the Next Level

October 30, 2009 by

Hey GMMRers! With no BONES for a second week in a row, I’m enjoying my second favorite thing to do, which is to lie on my couch and judge people who are way more talented than me. Seriously, I think I can maybe sew a button onto a shirt, but that hasn’t been proven since 8th grade Home Ec, 1994. First of all, what the heck was Heidi wearing during the runway part? That jacket was ill fitting, with the ruffled shirt, and were those silver lame (pronounced laMay) shorts?

But anyways…remember last week when we talked about how there weren’t really any villains on the show? Well, crank up the yankers, because the editors took THEIR best to the next level, filling this episode with moaning and backbiting from the contestants.

It always kills me when these contestants say this stuff to the cameras in their side interviews. Haven’t they ever seen a season of PR? Don’t they know there is almost always a time where that footage is revealed to everyone?

This week Heidi greeted the designers by presenting them with their best looks ever. Each one was a winning design, except Logan, who has not won. The challenge was to take their previous winning look and use it as inspiration to create a companion piece.

Anyways…let’s discuss the looks our designers had one day and one hundred dollars to complete.

Carol Hannah:

Not bad. Kind of like last week, I thought Carol Hannah’s dress was nice, but not anything I’ve never seen. Tim G encouraged her to work in her comfort zone, interestingly enough, which is why she chose another dress.

Althea:

The cattiest of the bunch this week, she was more annoyed with Logan’s zipper neckline than the competition, maybe. I liked the design of her top. All in all, her finished look was nice enough to get her through another challenge with high scores.

Logan:

I actually didn’t love his design. It was kind of a strange cross between sportswear, and…I don’t know…spacewear? I didn’t necessarily see how it tied in with his (non winning) best look. And since I’m judging just about everything, I’ll go ahead and say he’s not really that cute.

Irina:

Hmmm…she thought the cardigan made her design look younger? I totally disagree with that. I loved the dress underneath. And she’s called Meana Irina? Aw…sad. Logan said she’s on a high horse, but I am not seeing that. She’s just quiet and sewing and thinks people are idiots. I’m two of those things, and I am pretty sure you can guess which two.

Gordana:

Um…sorry to the awesome Gordana, but I wasn’t feeling this one. She kind of lost the spirit of the sassy divorcee that won her that challenge in the first place. I have never ever been a fan of jackets that are lower in the back. Makes me think of the circus or something. And, you know, I’m no designer, but when Tim Gunn says he’s not quite sure of something, and then his advice is for you to stand firm with your beliefs when no one else will see the good in a design…I think that’s time to reevaluate.

Christopher:

Aw, shucks, his smile is just too sweet, isn’t it? But I agree with Nina that his dress was too bottom heavy. I think it was because his petals were so tightly knit that the longer layers of the lighter fabric clashed.

And the winner of this challenge is…

Althea.

I don’t know why she thought no one wanted her to win, but…I’m happy she did.

And in the end…

Logan was Auf’d.

That means an all female Bryant Park, right? No WAY is Christopher getting there. I guess we’ll find out more next time!

The sad thing is that, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if Christopher made it to Bryant Park, mostly because the judges (okay, Heidi) generally seem more critical of Gordana than Christopher. I mean, what says “post-war Warsaw” better than what Gordana designed? Oversized, neutral-colored sweaters…or a group of designers that seem to be incapable of creating clothes in a non-neutral color palette.

Honestly, I thought Logan’s was nowhere NEAR as bad as the judges made it out to be – it was at least a little more creative and fashion-y than, say, Althea’s and Irina’s. I feel like that’s the goal this season – to find someone who is going to design something marketable and with mass appeal that will fit right in at Macy’s.

By the way – the pictures with Christopher’s and Carol Hannah’s descriptions above need to be switched.

I didn’t love anything in this cavalcade. I grudgingly admit that Irina is talented and I did like her dress and also grudgingly think she should have won again. She’s just not nice and is undesering in my world. My favorite is Gordana in that she isn’t 23 and her styling usually appeals to me and the fact Heidi hates on her every week makes me want to hug her but I couldn’t get behind her this week. I really wish she’d dropped Matar like a hot potato as I think she’s not a great model and is also a bit of a beotch.

I think it’ll be the three younger ladies at BP with a decoy to be named. Of the three younger women, I will be pulling for Carol Hannah.
