The build-up to their relationship was hilarious and beautiful (need I remind you of the end of The Leap??) but the way they handled the relationship was just horrible, horrible, horrible. However, in a voiceover, Ted did say "It turns out they really did just need to let things run their course." I take that to mean that they will get back together eventually. Though at this point, I'm not sure I even want that anymore. They writers let me down big time. This whole thing just makes me so sick. Their initial hook-up and the episode where Barney got beat up in Canada are the only things I enjoyed about their relationship. I love Lily being the relationship Kraken. Heh. While I'm glad they broke up, it's not because I have any attachment to single Barney (that joke has been played to death at this point) but because they were written so OOC and well, badly. They didn't do anything with the relationship at all beyond go with the usual couple cliches then break them up. The awesome cancelling each other out was a lame cop out to make up for the fact that the writers weren't good enough to follow up on all the tension of last season. All in all, pretty disappointing given that for me, that tension has been driving the show for a long time and is why I didn't want a Barney/Robin hookup anytime soon. It wont be the same without it and that worries me. I have to wonder why they went ahead with the relationship at all. The character's haven't changed but the tension is gone. For what exactly?
