PREVIOUS POST

Tonight’s the night. Tonight America’s Favorite Dancer will be crowned. Who will it be? Jakob, Kathryn, Russell, Ellenore, Ryan or Ashleigh?

For the first time this whole season, I’ll be watching the finale along with my SYTYCD friends. But don’t you fret – the minute the SYTYCD winner is crowned, I’ll be sure to let you know.

The post is open so feel free to start your cheering your favorite dancer on early.

Who will it be?

The winner of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is….

RUSSELL FERGUSON!!

Very happy for Russell. He is a talented dancer that was relentless this season. And it’s always good to see a Boston boy come out on top. Congrats Russell!

While I’m happy for Russell, I was saddened that my favorite, Jakob Karr, had to take second place. But I have no doubt that Jakob will fly through the air and land firmly on his brilliant and talented feet.

As for the finale show itself, well it was indicative of this season – rushed and kind of a mess.  It just didn’t have the feel of a SYTYCD finale. It was a little sloppy, and rather than focus on the best dances of the season, it was clear the producers just wanted to feature as many dancers as they could. Why else would the three tappers have time in the spotlight.

Although it was no fault of his own, Russell’s mid-show injury had to be a BIG disappointment not only for him but for the Top 20 dancers who came back to L.A. to dance the beautiful Wade Robson routine that kicked off the season. With Russell injured, their joy was for naught as they show just replayed the routine from the original airings.

I’m just waiting for them to make the announcement that SYTYCD will be back to a summer schedule. Fingers crossed.

For those of you who missed out on our SYTYCD podcasts this season, we’ll be back with them next season (assuming the show is back on the summer schedule). But, we did podcast tonight and we did discuss tonight’s finale. Check out TheTVTalkPodcast.com soon for our latest podcast!

What did YOU think of tonight’s finale? Were you happy that Russell won? What worked or didn’t in tonight’s final show? And who else is with me that we just don’t need J. Lo climbing out of a show ever again!

Oh yeah! Go Russell! Sucks that he got hurt and the show had to result to pre-recorded numbers and a J-Ho bling-hop song, but my boy still won!

I’m happy with the way it ended. Before tonight, I can’t remember a reality show finale where the finalists were eliminated in the exact order I was hoping for! Jakob is clearly the better dancer, but Russell really was my favorite all season long. Plus Jakob is obviously going to have a long career as a professional dancer. I think Russell needed the win more. I’m looking forward to next summer and the show returning to the normal format.

Poor Jakob! Russell’s great and he was my second choice — but Jakob was one of the only amazing technical dancers to be on this show that lacked doucheyness. I was hoping to finally get the great traditional dancer dude a win.

It was also great to see so many routines from the 1st episode, especially the Wade Robson group number. That kind of thing makes me wish that there was a professionally choreographed counterpart to ABDC…

At any rate, congrats to Russell! And here’s to great futures for Kathryn, Ellenore, and Jakob!

Bullshit! I am not pleased. My ranking for the win went Jakob, Kathryn, Ellenore, Russell, Ryan, Ashleigh. Jakob and Kathryn were both robbed if you ask me.

Some great dance numbers tonight, though.

I’m sad. And also supremely annoyed with Russell for taking his shirt off when he won. The funny thing is, Russell had been my early favorite from the audition rounds, but I ended up being all for Jakob. Has the best dancer ever won this show?

I am happy for Russell; however, I was really rooting for Ellenore. I thought she was a great dancer, with a lot of skill and very versatile.

    Go Russell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are people complaining that Jakob didn’t win? It’s America’s Favorite Dancer! I think it has been pretty obvious all year that Russell struck a cord with America. They gushed over Kayla and Brandon last year and they didn’t win. And you know what I think Russell’s reaction to winning was completely sincere. The guy was overcome with emotion! It’s really sad that people are actually mad that Russell won.

I really think that Jakob, Russell and Kathryn were the most deserving and any of them could have won.

At first, I was mad. I love Russell, but I think that Jakob is the better dancer. But then, I remembered – the best dancer doesn’t win. The favorite one does. And my guess is that the same number of offers will come in for Jakob as would have if he had won, while I think that having a title will help Russell more. So, now I’m happy. Except that I won’t be seeing Jakob dance every week. I will certainly be following his career, though. He has been amazing.

I am so glad Russell won. I think it is amazing that he had no formal training and was so talented that it came natural to him. I hated the finale show. I think I can recall at least three songs about shoes. Are these people getting free shoes for singing about them. Isn’t there something else someone can make a hit with. The show really should take out the singers and give us more dances. After all we are watching So You Think You Can dance. Maybe the fans could even vote for their favorite dance before the finale and that would be featured. At least that way we won’t here the same repetative line over and over and over again. Kudoos however to using the Dancers from the show and past shows in that number. But lets show us more of the dancing in the finale and less singing. Anyone know where Mia was this year. I love Adam S and his personality as a regular judge and like that concept but missed Mias choreography

I am ecstatic that Russell won, Jakob hands down was the best dancer this season but he was not as charasmatic as Russell was with bringing people to him, watching Russell dance and smile was just inviting and made you want to vote for him. Jakob was great I voted for him but he didn’t draw you in like Russell did with his personality.

  11. Kim on December 17th, 2009 8:09 am

Katie, if you were referring to me regarding Russell’s reaction to winning, the only thing that bothered me was that he ripped off his shirt. I hated that more than I can say. Otherwise, all was fine.

I wanted Jakob to win, but hey, I think that any of the top four would have been deserving winners and superior to some of the past champions. Russell is great. I just thought it would have been nice if the best technical dancer actually won this year.

  12. Katie on December 17th, 2009 11:00 am

I personally think the top 3 of Jakob, Kathryn and Russell was one of the best if not the best top 3.

  13. Lisa (aka lmr) on December 17th, 2009 12:11 pm

Happy for my hometown guy, Russell, and my top 2 were top 2…would have been happy for a Jakob win as well – he is just amazing. I think all six were wonderful and am happy for them all. Disappointed in them touting JLo and her stupid shoes, falling back on tape due to injuries, and the general rushedness of it. If I’m not misstaken, I think the Wade routine was always planned for tape.

I am so happy and proud that Russell won. I have loved him from the beginning. I think he is an amazing dancer and a wonderful man! He brought tears of joy to my eyes watching him. I can’t say enough how proud I am of him!!! LOVE YOU RUSSELL! You go boy!!! Wish I could meet you. You amaze me! Kat
