Will it Be Happily Ever After for Betty & Daniel on UGLY BETTY?

For a girl with braces and a complete lack of self awareness when it comes to her style, Betty Suarez certainly has had an eventful love life over the past few years. When we first met our brace-faced vixen she was smitten with Walter. But soon she was swept off her clunky heels by the adorkable Henry. Just as she found happiness, he found himself some baby mama drama. In swoops in the tough but sweet Gio who cooked up quite the Henry/Betty/Gio sandwich. After turning down Henry’s proposal and opting for some Felicity “me” time, Betty finally found herself unattached. That is until Matt came along. The two fell in love…until Matt saw Betty sharing a smooch with Henry. He became her boss at Mode and her biggest adversary. But in the end their feelings couldn’t be denied and the two are happily in love. For now. But will Betty’s next paramour be none other than her former boss, Daniel Meade?
In a recent interview with Michael Ausiello, Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta hints that maybe it will be her former boss and best friend, Daniel Meade, that will romance Ms. Suarez in the future. ” We’ve been batting around the idea. It is not outside the realm of possibility that something [could] happen, but we’re not sure yet” he tells Ausiello.
But what do the actors feels about their possible on-screen pairing? There have been rumors that both America Ferrera and Eric Mabius told producers early on that they were not interested in recreating the relationship that developed on the original Betty la Fea series. Early last year when Mabuis was asked about a possible Daniel/Betty pairing, the actor responded by saying “…that would be the equivalent of us jumping the shark“. “In all the other series … they get married and the show ends! I’m not too excited about that idea!” I’m not sure I am either, Eric.
If you’re a TV Talk Podcast listener then you’ve probably heard my praise for the creative resurgence Ugly Betty has had this season. One of my favorite storylines is the friendship between Daniel and Betty. They’ve always had a strong connection, but now that Daniel is no longer Betty’s [direct] boss, the two have enjoyed a wonderful platonic courtship. At the end of the day they can rely on each other, and they always have each other’s best interests at heart. But romance? I don’t see it.

I totally agree with you about the creative resurgence of Betty. I can’t say I at all like Matt, but on the whole I think the show has really bounced back, and I hope that the new time slot will really help the show. Modern Family and Cougartown are already great TV, so I hope the viewers stay.
And yeah…Betty and Daniel together? Ugh, I’m going to say no.
Yeah, no. No Betty-Daniel romance, please!! I can’t imagine it being done in a way that was natural or organic. It would just seem like a jump-the-shark ratings ploy.
Yeah, that would definitely be the moment at which UB jumped the shark.
Ugly Betty has picked up the pace this year from previous seasons. I like the relationship they have now as good friends but I think a Betty and Daniel relationship is okay in my books. For Daniel, I can see the growth in the character if he decided to date Betty that he has gotten past skin deep beauty and Betty has always adore Daniel. I like their relationship but given the show really only has a 2 years tops and then we should bury it. I don’t think it’s really jumping the shark more like that soon their will be no lake to jump over. They have already transformed Betty physically and made her more confident might as well give her a treat and let her have Daniel.
No Betty-Daniel romance please!
For an “ugly” girl, Betty sure does manage to do okay in the relationship department. She has been in far more relationships than me.
You COMPLETELY misquoted the whole “jumping the shark” quote. What he meant was, that he didn’t want Betty and Daniel getting together TOO soon, or the show would end. He didn’t say he didn’t want a relationship between them AT ALL.
Of all the guys that Betty could end up with Daniel seems like a great possibility over the past four seasons his character has grown enough and changed for the better. Maybe a romance with her could make him see things differently, who knows what will happen? Betty’s transformation this past season has been quite a nice surprise.
If they end up together that would make the series finale even more fantastic.
I prefer betty with matt . they’re just cute couple . i want they to be together at the end instead of daniel meade . maybe daniel cn be paired with amanda . they lool perfect for each other. please make betty with matt ….
I want them to bring Ugly Betty for another season or a 2 hour movie and Daniel and Betty should be together!
God I miss this show. I’m still rooting for it to come back.
As for the Detty thing, at first I always thought it was such an awkward pairing, but somewhere near the end of Ugly Betty, something just clicked, and Daniel/Betty became just right.
I prefer daniel/betty relationship, she was looking for a great guy and Daniel grew into that person from being snobbish and spoilt to a good man, as for Betty can I say GORGEOUS, she needs someone who she can trully rely on be a friend and morre and who better than Daniel, he obviously love her very much to have followed her to London.
Betty S. went through a lot of men who let her down and Daniel M. went through a lot of heart ache as well. Betty and Daniel know everything about each other, the good and bad and their flaws. Daniel takes up for Betty and Betty always has his back. They may let each other down sometimes but they always keep their support and friendship for each other. Daniel cant stand not to have Betty around and Betty gets emotional when she has to leave him. They have a strong friendship, but I think it should go deeper than just being friends. They have all the great qualities a couple should have. A great relationship starts with having a best friend. Whats not better than marrying or courting your best friend. They know everything about each other. I want to see them together if their is a season five.
