CHUCK’s Season 3 Premiere Ratings!
January 11, 2010 by Kath Skerry
Want to know how our favorite Nerd Herder did in the ratings on his first night back of the new season?
This just in from The Live Feed:
The first episode of “Chuck” drew 7.7 million viewers and a healthy 3.0 preliminary rating among adults 18-49, with the second drawing 7.2 million and a 2.9 rating.
If you excluded the special 3D episode, you have to go all the way back to 2007 to find a “Chuck” episode rated this high. “Chuck” also improved 58% (!!) on its “Dateline” lead-in.
But that was last night, and tonight’s tonight. So tune in!

CHUCK Season Premiere: “Chuck vs. the Pink Slip” & “Chuck vs. the Three Words”

Chuck: “You guys going on a mission? Do you need back-up? I can still flash.
Casey: “Not what I heard.”
You’ve heard it a million times. It’s the old battle of the head vs. the heart. Do the right and logical thing or follow your gut emotions and do what every fiber of your being tells you to do. Such is the crux of Chuck Bartowski’s life.
Following his head means a life as a world class spy. Perhaps one of the best. The government secrets and unique skills embedded deep within Chuck’s brain means he’s perhaps the government’s single most important asset. He’d be virtually unstoppable. But he wouldn’t be Chuck Bartowski. Of course things aren’t any easier if he were to just follow his heart. In doing so he’d be giving up the piece of himself that is a man of honor and character. A man who knows that the information he has – no matter how he came to have it – could save lives. It seems like a no win situation. But somehow Chuck Bartowski has figured out a path that allows him to do both. And it’s why one of television’s greatest heroes is also just the guy that works at the Buy More.

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! …and Monday too! Yes, today’s the day. It’s time to grab a little Subway for dinner and settle in for the 2hour season premiere of Chuck! And just to think, there was a chance that this day would never come. Viva Buymoria!
Tonight Chuck fans will be served the first two episodes of the third season and tomorrow night we’ll see the 3rd episode. We’ll hopefully all be watching it together. GMMR will be hosting a live Chuck chat starting right around 8pm EST tomorrow. I hope you’ll watch the show along with us. Click here to set a reminder for yourself: Chuck Monday Night Premiere – LIVE Chuck Chat
Believe it or not, there are other shows on besides Chuck. On HBO is the season premiere of their critically acclaimed show, Big Love. For all us Battlestar Galactica fans, we get “The Plan” – a new original movie with a perspective from the Cylons POV. If you’re into The Simpsons, then you might want to check out their 20th anniversary special tonight. I rarely watch the show, but I still enjoyed Morgan Sperlock’s documentary style approach to the phenomenon behind the TV show. Between those and the rest of the Sunday night line0up, there’s plenty for your DVR to record (while you’re watching Chuck.)
Serenity | 6:30pm on Syfy

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition | 8pm on ABC
“Cowan Family”

CHUCK Returns to Kick a Little Ass on Sunday Night (and Monday Too!)
January 9, 2010 by Kath Skerry
Filed under #1 featured, Chuck, Save CHUCK
“For the past two years we’ve protected Chuck from the world.
Now we have to protect the world from Chuck.” – General Beckman
I think Bonnie Tyler got it right in her classic 80′s tune when she said “I’m holdin’ out for a hero ’til the end of the night.” Lucky for us, we don’t have to hold out too long because our hero, Chuck Bartowski, is back on Sunday night. And he’s back in a BIG way. And I’m not just talking about the two-hour season premiere on Sunday (9/8c) and new episode on Monday (at it’s regular time of 8/7c). I mean, seriously, the guy knows Kung Fu.
There once was a time when Chuck Bartowski wasn’t a hero. At least not outside of the Nerd Herders who worshiped him at the Buy More. But then his old college roommate sent him an email loaded with government information which was downloaded into his brain. He got some handlers courtesy of the CIA and NSA, and soon enough Chuck Bartowski was, often reluctantly but quite consistently, saving the world.
In last season’s “game changing” final episode, Chuck Bartowski cemented his hero status once again when, for the good of his country, he reenlisted himself into the harrowing world of spydom. A world he was so anxious to leave behind. With the Intersect finally out of his head, Chuck could imagine a life for himself free from bullets, bad guys, and even the Buy More. But despite how much he resisted the role, Chuck Bartowski had become a real spy. Rather than risk the government losing important information that could save the lives of many, Chuck opted to download the new Intersect into his brain before destroying it, and in such keeping it away from the evil doers looking to exploit the Intersect for their own means.
What Chuck didn’t know was that this new Intersect contained much more than just classified government secrets. No, the Intersect 2.0 had been pimped out, big time. In addition to its intelligence data (spy secrets) the new Intersect 2.0 now allowed Chuck to “flash” on and immediately learn new skills embedded within the Intersect. And let me tell ya, the Kung Fu-lery that Chuck showed off in the finale is just a preview of what’s in that big brain of his. With his new abilities, Chuck Bartowski is ready to be the super-spy we always knew he was. Maybe. Kind of. Well, at least sometimes.
Help Ellen Achieve World Domination!

Ellen makes me happy. Every day I come home from work, start dinner and then turn on the DVR to watch that morning’s Ellen. Hardly a day goes by where I don’t watch. In some alternate universe she and I would be friends. We love dancing, drinking, and all things SYTYCD. I think that’s enough for a life long friendship. But alas, I am resigned to watching her on TV. And helping her our with her New Year’s resolutions.
Ellen announced her New Year’s resolution for 2010 — world domination! If you’re on Facebook, you can help her! Download this picture of Ellen, print it out, and take a picture of yourself with it — in the city or town where you are. Then, go to Ellen’s Facebook page and upload the photo. Together we can achieve Ellen’s goal! (Click here to download PDF | Click here to download image.)

Perhaps I should implore a similar tactic to help me with my 2010 resolution – finally meeting Neil Patrick Harris. On second thought, I don’t think NPH wants to see my picture plastered anywhere. Next idea?
Watch Along with GMMR…FIREFLY

UPDATE: Don’t forget we are starting ‘Watch Along with GMMR…Firefly’ starting on Monday. We’ll be talking about episode #1 on Tuesday. Do you have your copy yet?
The votes are in and the first ‘Watch Along with GMMR‘ show of 2010 has been chosen. In a tough battle between Freaks & Geeks and Firefly, the Browncoats were victorious. So starting next week I’ll be watching one new episode of Firefly each night and sharing my thoughts on it the next day.
Since the column is called ‘Watch Along with GMMR’, the whole idea is that YOU too will be watching Firefly with me and joining in on the discussion. I mean, it’s not really fun to watch by myself no matter how much Nathan Fillion is on my screen. Drop me a line if you’re going to watching Firefly with me starting Monday, January 11th. Come on, it’s one season – 13 episodes. You can do it!
Do you have Firefly: The Complete Series on DVD yet? If not, make sure you head out and get it before next Monday. If you’re thinking about ordering it online, the cheapest I’ve found it was at Barnes & Noble (~$26.00). And while you’re at it, you might want to consider buying Serenity, the theatrical movie based on the show.
I’m super excited…are YOU? I was first introduced to the Whedonverse through Project Buffy in 2008. Before Project Buffy I was most familiar with Joss Whedon’s work as the car rental agent on Veronica Mars and as the director of an episode of The Office. But now I get it. The man has a way of telling a good tale, and I just know that I’m going to love Firefly.
Oh and don’t worry Freaks & Geeks fans, you too have been heard. F&G will be the next ‘Watch Along with GMMR’ show! I pinky swear.
Ok so who is with me…
Obama Won’t Bump LOST

Whew…that was a close one.
The internet went all a buzz (as it does as least once a week) upon hearing rumors that President Obama might schedule the State of the Union address on February 2nd. The same February 2nd that is the date for the 3-hour season premiere of Lost. GASP!
But don’t fret my little Losties, White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg (whoops, I forgot we were talking about real life) Robert Gibbs assured us that we’ll be just fine saying, “I don’t foresee a scenario in which the millions of people that hope to finally get some some conclusion in Lost are preempted by the President.”
Since it’s on the table, I’d like to sit down with Mr. Gibbs and give his a number of shows that should also be added to the no-preempt list. I wonder if he’s on Twitter
