Gearing Up for ‘Two Idiots Talk LOST’

February 2, 2010 by

If you’re anything like me, you might be feeling excited, but a bit lost about LOST. For weeks now I’ve been saying that I need to go back and watch the last few episodes of S5 because as of this moment the only thing I remember with any certainty was Juliet falling down that damn hole.

I’m not what you would call an “involved” LOST viewer. I like to watch the ep for what it is and then maybe peruse sites like Lostopedia to find out the nuggets I missed by just watching. All the credit in the world to LOST fan sites whose dedicated bloggers and fans break down each element of each episode to find the hidden meaning and how it fits into the larger enigma that is LOST. That’s not going to be happening on this site. You’re lucky if I remember who was a Lostie or an Other.

I think there are more LOST fans like me out there than you’d think. I’m talking about the people that love the show, and are genuinely intrigued by things like the four-toed statue, why Locke could walk after the crash, what those numbers really mean, and why Walt has been spotted kickin’ it on the island; but who ultimately are just too lazy to come up with realistic theories or to go investigate what others have already discovered. Fans who don’t know that the character Daniel Faraday might have been named after Michael Faraday, an English physicist who studied electromagnetism, are my kind of people. [Um, did you also not know that Daniel and Penny have the same father? Yeah, I somehow missed that along the way too. Oh God, I’m screwed tonight.]

If that sounds like you, then I hope you’ll check out “Two Idiots Talk LOST“, the most popular segment of our TV Talk Podcast. Each Wednesday night Ducky and I break down that week’s episode of LOST and try to figure out what the hell happened. We don’t often succeed and usually listeners leave us all kinds of comments telling of us of our failings…but that’s the beauty (and the fun) of it. (To be fair, Dan is much more well versed in the world of LOST than I am, so it makes the conversation [hopefully] more interesting than I’m letting on. It’s also the reason we considered changing the podcast segment name to “One Idiot and One F#$king Numnut Talk Lost”.)

So whether you’re a die hard LOSTie who wants to right our wrongs, or if you’re more of a loyal but casual viewer, I hope you’ll give the next TV Talk Podcast a listen. I think at the end of the day there are more that just two of us idiots watching LOST. (The TV Talk Podcast | iTunes reviews by search “The TV Talk Podcast”)

I’m most definitely going to be watching the “The Final Chapter” tonight at 8pm. The special is a series recap focusing on the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, the mysteries of the island and its inhabitants, the survivors who returned to the U.S. (the Oceanic 6), the island’s violent time shifts and the H-bomb detonation in May 2009’s Season 5 finale. The hour reviews questions that have been answered and explores those that haven’t. It’s the Cliff Notes version of LOST. That works for me.

If you can’t watch the special tonight, then check out LOST in 8:15.

“I need to go back and watch the last few episodes of S5 because as of this moment the only thing I remember with any certainty was Juliet falling down that damn hole.” — I literally said the EXACT same thing to a friend earlier today! Fortunately, I did have a chance to give the season finale a re-watch this afternoon so I am all set for tonight — I think. Will check out the pod-cast for sure.

Just finished the first two hour episode, and OMG.
So confused, and I thought I was totally up on it.
    So glad they’re back!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who watches Lost as an idiot. Sometimes I feel lazy that I don’t read all the theories and constantly look for clues. I love the show and can’t wait to see how it all ends…it just better make sense to me by then!
