Pacey…Sydney Bristow…Halpert? Endless Possibilities.

February 8, 2010 by

Taking a break from the TV talk to share some exciting news! I’m officially a dog owner! Well, officially as in I’ve done the paperwork to make her mine, but my new little pup won’t be here until February 25th. That means we have just a few weeks to come up with a suitable name for the newest member of Team GMMR.

Many of my Twitter friends have suggested that I name her something with a little nod to my love for TV.  I like the idea but it needs to be the right name. She’s a little girl maltipoo so a name like Pacey or Jack Bauer just won’t suit her. But I’m open to suggestions. If you’ve got a TV-inspired name for my new puppy be sure to pass it along. (I’ll take non-TV names too…I need all the help I can get.)

(Just to save you the time, “Pam” is already out of the running.)

I’d love to hear your suggestions. Her name is Sissy right now, but it’s just not the right name for her.

So Pam is out, what about Beesley? Also a fan of Sydney, or Bristow.

  2. Wanda on February 8th, 2010 7:48 am

    Casey?

  3. Jaina on February 8th, 2010 8:08 am

    What about Astor from Dexter?

  4. Shannon on February 8th, 2010 9:58 am

I actually named my cat (a boy) Halpert after you know who. The name actually fits him perfectly. I keep saying if we get a girl cat I’m gonna name her Beesley 🙂

I think Sydney would be a good name. Even Vaughn could work for a girl dog.

  5. Give Me My Remote on February 8th, 2010 10:18 am

Beesly is definitely in the running. So is Sydney and Bristow.

As of late Saturday night her name was going to be “Kelly Clarkson” but then I sobered up.

  6. Sara on February 8th, 2010 10:52 am

My main vote is for Beesly. Since the lady in the video says she’s prissy and diva-ish, I’d also suggest Rachel Berry (but only if you used the full name) or Mercedes. She’s too cute to be a Shit-for-Brains. Bazinga? Crowley? Caprica? I’m interested to see what you pick. She sure is cute.

  7. Give Me My Remote on February 8th, 2010 10:57 am

    Aw Bazinga! Ha ha!

I kind of love CAPPIE!!!! But my friends weren’t too keen I don’t think.

I’ve always loved the name Ainsley (from back in The West Wing days)

If it’s going to be TV related I feel it should be one of my favorites. I wish Pacey wasn’t such a boys name.

  8. Mary Beth on February 8th, 2010 10:57 am

Cat, after Cat Deely? People would be so confused, though, especially if they don’t watch SYTYCD, as your little one is clearly a dog.

  9. Kerry on February 8th, 2010 11:12 am

Any PD names in the running? She looks like an Olive.

  10. Give Me My Remote on February 8th, 2010 11:17 am

I’m not a huge fan of Olive. She doesn’t look like an Olive to me. Someone else suggested Charlotte Charles, but I think that might be a big name for a little pup.

    Keep ’em coming!

(I really don’t know how parents ever name their children)

  11. Meriel on February 8th, 2010 12:01 pm

what about chuck? it could have dual meanings… for chuck from PD and chuck from chuck… 😉

but i also LOVE sydney or bristow, because i LOVE alias. 🙂

  12. Give Me My Remote on February 8th, 2010 12:08 pm

Chuck was most certainly an early favorite, but I feel like it’s very gender specific (although we know it’s not)

  13. TV in a Flash on February 8th, 2010 12:09 pm

If we’re talking West Wing, I think you gotta go for C.J.

Juliet? Burke might be cute, too. (Lost)

I like old lady names for dogs… Mabel, Edith, Dorothy, Sophia…

  14. Amanda on February 8th, 2010 12:35 pm

My votes are for Sarah (from Chuck), Kelly Kapoor, Sydney, Kaylee or River (from Firefly), or Willow (from Buffy)! She is soooooo cute, Kath!

  15. Nicole on February 8th, 2010 12:40 pm

If she wasn’t the most annoying character on the show, I’d say Sookeh! (pronounced as Beeeeeel tends to do). That being said, what about Sookie (as in Gilmore Girls)?? I’m doing a slow re-watch of that show right now, and damn, I miss her character. Plus, Sookie is a cute dog name.

Congrats! I don’t know what I’d do without my dog and cat – pet ownership is the best.

  16. Christina on February 8th, 2010 1:16 pm

    VMars – Lilly, Logan, Mac
West Wing – I agree that CJ would be cute
    The Office – Dundie
Dawson’s Creek – I think you can totally get away with Pacey for a girl. It’s my favorite suggestion
    30Rock – Jenna, Suri, CC
Buffy – This show is a goldmine of female names, but if she is prissy then you should probably go for Cordelia. Alternatively Oz is a fun canine reference.
PD – I know that Swoosy isn’t her character name, but wouldn’t that be a fun name for a dog?
Glee – Quinn, Mercedes, Sue Sylvester
    Supernatural – Jo, Sam

  17. Karen (Kath's sis) on February 8th, 2010 1:53 pm

I was coming here to vote for Beesley before I realized it was already in the running!

  18. Randi on February 8th, 2010 2:29 pm

Aww, Sookie would be a good dog name! I actually like Kelly Clarkson. It would be amusing to yell that! What about Joey (DC)?

Pacey is a good dog name. It doesn’t have to be gender specific at all!

  19. Give Me My Remote on February 8th, 2010 4:03 pm

Really Karen? I thought you would have voted for Abercrombie. A-L-L.

  20. theTVaddict on February 8th, 2010 5:27 pm

Congrats on your new addition to the GMMR family. Adorable and exciting. As someone who named my dog ‘Mac’ as an homage to my favorite VERONICA MARS character and my favorite computer, I’m loving reading everybody’s suggestions and would have to say that my favorites thus far are Chuck, CJ, Bristow.

  21. Beth on February 8th, 2010 5:40 pm

No one has suggested anything from FNL! How about Garrity? or Lyla?

  22. Erik on February 8th, 2010 5:52 pm

If the little thing weren’t so expressive and full of life, I would have recommended Sookie, after your least favorite True Blood character. Nothing says lifeless like Anna Paquin 🙂

Since she is such a spitfire, I love the Ainsley name as an homage to The West Wing. Nothing perked up a room in the Executive Branch like Emily Proctor, and she was sassy like your Malti-Poo!

  23. Andrew on February 8th, 2010 6:50 pm

    Hi Kath:
I like the name Toby from West Wing and from Lost I like a combo name of sun jin. Joey is a nice name too.
Names are such a long and difficult process for everyone. I know you find that special name that you will love.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  24. Give Me My Remote on February 8th, 2010 7:15 pm

I was thinking about Dillon. Ok, well I started with “QB1” and then went to Dillon. If it were a boy Riggins would be a front runner.

Lila is my niece’s name. I don’t think she’s like that much.

  25. Give Me My Remote on February 8th, 2010 7:16 pm

Daniel – If your dog’s name wasn’t Mac I would probably name her that….for the same reasons. But since I know someone who has a dog named that I can’t do it.

  26. Sus on February 8th, 2010 7:20 pm

    I vote Bristow! 🙂

  27. Jen on February 8th, 2010 7:22 pm

    Starbuck!

  28. Emily on February 8th, 2010 7:23 pm

    Pacey!!

  29. Sarah on February 8th, 2010 7:27 pm

Bristow and Burke are my favorite suggestions! Also, even though it’s a girl, Logan does seem like a really good suggestion. I know girls who are Logans.

  30. Eddie on February 8th, 2010 7:34 pm

I would say Jubilee in honor of Sarah’s faux workplace on Chuck.

  31. Kristina on February 8th, 2010 7:43 pm

    She’s really adorable!

    Lets see…
Lily (HIMYM), Beesly (The Office), Liz Lemon (30 Rock), Pillsbury (Glee), Ellie (Chuck)

Realizing now it’s hard to name female pets haha

  32. Lindsey on February 8th, 2010 7:44 pm

I’m planning to name my dog Ziggy (from Quantum Leap). But that won’t be for a while, so I’ll throw that one in the mix for you! Also, Penny (Lost)? Or Clementine?

  33. Kyle on February 8th, 2010 7:45 pm

I was going to suggest Chuck Barktowski or Barky Barktokomous, but since it’s a girl: if you were a Without a Trace fan, Puppy Montgomery or a Dexter fan, Debark Morgan.
(No I don’t have any pets–and pets everywhere are probably lucky for that ;))

  34. shanemd on February 8th, 2010 8:33 pm

    LUX.

  35. Sonja on February 8th, 2010 8:43 pm

    Def Sidney Bristow

  36. Casey on February 8th, 2010 11:50 pm

I think Bristow is adorable, and I also like Lily. On a side note, I laughed so hard at Sara’s comment above about her being too cute to be called Shit-for-Brains, because I just got an adorable pomeranian puppy who my dad insists on calling shit-for-brains.

  37. tessa on February 9th, 2010 1:00 am

I just got a dog, too! And I am having such trouble picking a name, I can’t handle it. So far, the only vote I have is from my cat, who would like to name the new dog “Intruder.”

  38. Lauren on February 9th, 2010 8:46 am

    Kath,

I would suggest having a list and then waiting until you bring the little one home to let her personality dictate the choice.

That said, you’ve got quite a list. And I’m sure that the little bundle of fluff will show you which one she is within a week–I know that sounds like a long time, but you really want to get her name right.

  39. Maggie on February 9th, 2010 1:53 pm

I really like Ainsley! Or maybe Andie, like in Dawson’s Creek. What about something from The Vampire Diaries — Caroline? Bonnie? Or maybe you could go with something from an old-school favorite — what were your favorite shows growing up?

  40. Patty on February 9th, 2010 2:22 pm

I am a big fan of Kelly Clarkson just because I think it’s funny. Probably the reason I like Cat too. Since my cat is named Spot. I named her a “dog” name on purpose.

    What about Doogie?

If you really want a TV name, make a list of all your favorite TV characters of all time and run down the list after she gets here.

What about Betty White? She kind of looks like a Betty White.

  41. toast with JAM on February 9th, 2010 4:09 pm

Pacey sounds like a girls name to me. I don’t know what show it’s from, but I thought it was a girl character.

  42. toast with JAM on February 9th, 2010 4:11 pm

What’s Pam Beesley’s middle name? They said it once.

  43. Give Me My Remote on February 9th, 2010 5:08 pm

    @ToaswithJam: It’s Morgan.

  44. Laura on February 10th, 2010 12:46 pm

    Marshmallow or Lilypad (HIMYM)

  45. Maggie on February 10th, 2010 4:10 pm

Okay, I’ve got it. Doesn’t she look like a Meg? Like Meg from Veronica Mars.
