Taking a Bit of a Spring Break

Can we talk?

(Uh oh. Never a good sign when I start a blog post that way.)

This past October GiveMeMyRemote.com had its 5th anniversary. Since 2005 I’ve been covering TV in my own little part of the Web.  I’m not sure I could even begin to tell you how much being the Editor of this site has meant to me.  I’ve met so many wonderful people and had the most amazing experience, most of which were beyond the imagination of this TV geek.

Through the GMMR readers who have contributed to the site, both in blogs posts and in comments, I think we’ve created a great community of people who love to celebrate television.

For the past few months, maybe a little longer, I feel like I’ve been letting the site down a bit. Demands in my personal life and my real job have meant that GMMR has taken a bit of a back seat in terms of my priorities.  As a result trying to stay up on all my favorite shows and blogging about them has become this things I feel like I have to do rather than something I want to do. I’m a little burnt out. I think you’ve noticed.  The conversations in the comments are not what they used to be.  And really what’s the point of having a site to talk about TV if we aren’t really talking about it?

As GMMR was born out of my passion for TV and wanting to share that experience with others, it doesn’t feel right that I’ve been mailing it in these days. So I’ve decided that it’s time to take a step back, relax, and go about finding my passion for TV and blogging again.

So what does this mean for GiveMeMyRemote.com?

This site is NOT going away.

It’s NOT being shut down.

It will probably be updated every day.

I’m going to take a bit of a break in terms of trying to post every day, but that does NOT mean that GMMR won’t be updated every day.  The fabulous TV fans that make up Team GMMR are still going to contribute on a weekly basis.  We might even have one or two new people on board to help out too.  Depending on how it all works out, GMMR might have more daily posts than ever!

As for me, I’m still going to be posting.  I’m taking a step back NOT quitting.  But by making this announcement I’m taking a bit of the self-imposed pressure off myself.  I want to get back to that place where I blog because I have something to say, not just because it’s expected of me.

I’ve always said that I don’t consider myself a critic.  I’m a TV fan who tries to bring a fan’s perspective to the conversation. While I read and admire many TV critics every once in a while I come across a review that makes me wonder if the critic even likes TV.  I don’t want to become that person.  I need to fall in love with TV all over again.  And if that means I need to spend time watching my favorite shows without a notebook in hand or a laptop open then that’s what I’m going to do.

Geesh, I’m making this out to be more dramatic than it has to be.  Ha! Take it down a notch, Kath.

Since GMMR readers are such an important part of GiveMeMyRemote.com, it was important to me that I let you in on what’s been going on with me. Just consider this a bit of a spring break for me.  When I ready to come back full time I’ll be refreshed and hopefully bring a new kind of energy to the site.

Dan and I will still be recording The TV Talk Podcast (as much as our schedules allow), so be sure to check out http://www.TheTVTalkPodcast.com for the latest episodes.

Thanks for understanding…we’ll talk soon. (Maybe even later tonight if I get home in enough time to watch and blog about CHUCK, GREEK, NURSE JACKIE, etc. Told you I’ve haven’t completely given up.)

I totally understand you needing to take a break. I can’t imagine trying to keep up with work, life, family (especially your new fur baby 🙂 ), and GMMR. You are a Superwoman! Post when you can and I’m sure your re-cappers can hold down the fort while you rediscover your love of TV.

Take some time and enjoy yourself! We’ll be here – not going anywhere!

A break is always needed in life, even with the stuff we love! Enjoy your time off, but I can’t lie and say that I don’t use your “what’s on TV” everyday to help me figure out my viewing schedule for the night!

You’ve done it before and came back better than ever. You can do it again. No one blames you for needing a break. Just don’t go thinking you can wh*re around with some other blog just because we’re “on a break” 😉 Get your mojo back. I’ll be here whenever you return!

@Jamie: Those posts will most likely continue as I can try to get those up before I leave for work in the morning. Thanks!

Enjoy your break! I hope you come back rejuvenated! 🙂 I can imagine it would be difficult to sit and critique every show you watch for a blog post instead of just enjoying the shows for what they really are: entertainment. I’ve been coming to this site for nearly 3 years now and I love it so keep up the good work…but no pressure haha

Oh sure, you get a dog and we all have to be punished for it . . . 🙂

Enjoy your deserved break, you’re on my iGoogle so when you put something up, I’ll be reading!

    Happy Belated by the way!

I so know what you mean — it’s hard when something you love becomes work with a deadline you feel like you have to meet. Thanks for sharing and I’ll still be checking in all the time. 🙂

Totally understand. There is TONS of TV to watch now and if you have a life? No way to blog about it all. Take time off, enjoy watching Digby grow up and get back to loving TV. I am sure we will hear about it if you feel the need to express yourself!

I do love the passion you have for television as I share it too. If you ever need a blogger/writer to talk about a show, I would be happy to help and give you the opportunity to breathe easier!

You know, Kath, in the end WE all just want to get out OUR opinions! lol We’re just too lazy to figure out how to start out own web pages!

All you have to do is put up a show post (for any show, just giving an example) titled: Chuck: The Tic Tac….GO. and we will all take it from there with our comments! If you watched and want to add a comment you can participate! You can become one of US!
