SMALLVILLE Season Finale: Salvation

May 16, 2010 by

Thanks for Sarah for doing such a fantastic job covering SMALLVILLE this season. Much appreciated!

Hey Smallville fans! What an ending! I wasn’t thrilled about how things with Clark went down but at least Zod is out of the way which gives us a clean slate for next season. Can you believe with all the near death experiences and blows to the head that Lois has finally figured out who Clark is?! Alright I’m skipping ahead! Back to the beginning…

Clark finally got a grip, and a break, on the whole Kryptonian fiasco. Sure they are his people but after burning down parts of the globe it was time for them to move on. And Clark really didn’t have to do all that much. Zod did himself in and in the end was his own worst enemy! I was surprised the writers decided to bring the General down with just a whisper really. It was a clever little twist that in the heat of the moment he would confess to Clark and his own people would turn on him. I just wish Clark didn’t have to get stabbed with blue kryptonite but I’m sure when season 10 kicks off Superman will be fine. It was also the only way to keep him on Earth. What a cliff hanger?!

I also liked the way they kicked off the first part of the episode with Clark’s Mom leaving him (what looked to me like) the official and legendary Superman disguise. It just makes me miss the good old days when Annette O’Toole and John Schneider where permanent fixtures on the farm.

Chloe also showed her old side tonight. She actually told Oliver she loved him and was emotionally upset when Clark announced that he would be taking off with the Kryptonians in order to restore peace on Earth.

When it came to the JSA, well, I really thought we would be seeing them all work side by side instead of on the small screen in Watchtower but their presence was still good enough. Their appearances really brought out the real Superman in Clark and seemed to reaffirm his purpose and identity in the world as well as the ongoing storyline with the Kryptonians. Season after season we have seen him struggle with his identity and where he fits in and finally after all this time, and a few dreams, Clark has finally come to terms with where he belongs and why.

I can’t forget about Tess. We only saw her in the beginning of the episode when Zod viciously burned half of her face off but at least Smallville’s evil resident made an attempt to save or help Clark. She did try her best and like I have said in the past she has a nasty right hook that would make even Lex Luther proud. What I didn’t understand – who was the old lady knitting in the hospital? Somehow I missed this important piece. Sometimes watching Tom Welling does that to me!

I would say that the Smallville finale was a success even if we don’t know exactly what’s in the cards for Clark and his plunge from the top of the building. And before I sign off for the season, what was going on with Clark’s dream that took place in 2013? I swear I heard Lois call out for Olsen? Is Jimmy coming back after all? Why would Clark even dream about someone who has been dead since last year? I guess we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for Smallville’s season 10!

Until then GMMR have an awesome, relaxing and safe Summer. Hopefully I’ll have some Smallville updates along the way!

Take care!

I have enjoyed this season. Not that I am a fanatical watcher of this show like I am about others. But I love Chloe and Oliver and when I heard Brian Austin Green was going to be in a couple eps this season? I just set my DVR. I will be watching again next year.

I watched the last batch of episodes after reading Sarah’s fantastic reviews. Though I definitely need to brush up on my Smallville IQ, I’m thrilled that I wasn’t the only one confused about the identity of the hallway knitter. Maybe we can nudge DC Comics to do a mini-series about her during the hiatus 🙂

The storytelling in this episode was outstanding, with a wide range of stories addressed with specificity. The saga of “The Blur” was a clever device to bring Lois closer to Clark’s secret, and I’m on board for Season 10.

    Great job this season, Sarah!

Don’t forget that “Jimmy” wasn’t Jimmy at all; his name was actually Henry. His little brother is the “real” Jimmy. 2013 would put him at about 16 or 17 years old which is perfect for a new, still naive, easily bossed around newspaper photographer.

And remember, if you are familiar with the Superman character, even if Clark hits the ground with a THUD!!!! and breaks every bone in his body, if the blue kryptonite is pulled out, the sun will heal him and his life will still be restored. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes.

I’m impressed, I must say. Genuinely rarely can i encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. Your concept is outstanding; the problem is something that too little individuals are speaking intelligently about. My business is extremely pleased i always stumbled across this during my try to locate something regarding this.

This really is the correct blog for anybody who would like to learn about this topic. You might be aware of a whole lot its virtually challenging to argue on hand (not that I really would want…HaHa). You actually put the latest spin over a subject thats been revealed for many years. Wonderful stuff, just amazing!
