SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’s Nigel Lythgoe on Alex Wong and hip hop, plus who could give Wong competition for the win

July 2, 2010 by

When SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe hit backstage after Thursday (July 1) night’s elimination show, the first thing I asked him about was Alex Wong and hip hop. Where did the ballet dancer pull that swagger from?

In the clip below, Lythgoe talks about that and answers a few other questions: Does Wong have this competition in the bag? Why are the judges loving on Jose right now, but giving Kent a hard time? And if Lythgoe could’ve gotten inside the body of week 3 eliminee Melinda, what would he have done diff– er, um, let me rephrase that… Oh, I said it out loud already?

Watch as Lythgoe reacts…

I can’t watch the video on my work computer. Any way you could post a transcript? Would love to hear what Nigel said! Thank you!

He said he wish he knew where Alex’s hip hop came from. If they’d known he could do that, they would’ve had him doing it weeks ago! He said he’s never seen a classical dancer move his body that way and they were just so impressed… But watch the video when you get home, because he also comments on a bunch of the other dancers and I actually knocked the wind out of him — so to speak — with the wording of one of my stupid questions… it’s kind of funny to see… 🙂

thanks for the notes. I also can’t view videos at work!! I loved the Alex/Twitch hip-hop..the ending with Twitch doing the ballet jump and finishing pose really was the exclamation point for the routine!!

    LOL Nigel making “Kent faces”.

Will there be a Shankman interview too? I heard him talking in the background and thought that would be great as well. Love him 🙂
