Who Went Home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

UPDATE: Click here to find out who went home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (August 5th)

PREVIOUS POST

It’s not an easy night to be a SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE fan. I wish it were easier to write this post, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t just a bit devastated.

Keep reading to find out who went home.

First, I must applaud SYTYCD for having vastly improved their results show this season. The variety of the acts – like “In the Heights” tonight, the musicians performing with the All Stars, the spotlight on the All Star dancers, Cat’s quick delivery of the bottom three – it just all works. I don’t find myself reaching for the remote like I normally do during reality show results shows. Well done.

As for tonight’s verdict, please forgive my brevity, but I had surgery yesterday, and as those of you who were with me during my back surgery know, I’m better off not writing too much while on pain meds. Ha!  But the results need to be discussed because they are so unbelievably sad.

As we learned last night, Alex Wong was injured and therefore automatically in the bottom three.  This week America placed Ashley and Billy in the bottom with Alex.  Really?  Jose is still dancing on but Ashley and Billy are at risk for going home?  Do I need to individually shake every single person voting?  What the hell, people?!

The realization that Billy, Ashley or Alex was going home was just too much too handle.  Lucky for the judges, their decision was easy.

Tonight it was revealed that Alex’s injuries will require surgery and it will take him at least three months to recover.  Therefore, Alex Wong was sent home tonight, much to the luck of Ashley and Billy.

I can’t imagine how devastating this is for him. He tried out last season, only to be held back by his contract with the Miami City Ballet. This season he gave up his position as a principle dancer with the company in order to join the show.  After having an amazing, but short journey on SYTYCD, Alex is now going home…way too early.  I really thought he could have won it all. He was certainly on that path.

Nigel made mention that Alex will be invited back next year.  GIVE ME MY REMOTE’s Korbi Ghosh is live on the scene awaiting an interview with Lythgoe and she’ll get clarification on whether Wong will be allowed to compete next year.

So sad for Alex. I think Billy is a lucky guy – if it weren’t for Alex, I’m pretty sure he’d be going home tonight.

Just a bummer of a night for the show.

Your thoughts on Alex’s departure? Would have Ashley or Billy gone home if Alex were cleared to dance?

So sad for Alex. I really thought he’d win the whole thing.

I am very sad for Alex and I hope that Nigel wasn’t just BS-ing when he made it sound like Alex’s condition wasn’t that bad. I hope he does recover and dances again just as brilliantly. Billy Bell did NOT deserve to be in the bottom. I was scared to death that the judges might not want to cut Ashley and leave just one girl in the competition. So in a way I am relieved that Alex was cut. But Alex has been my favorite all along. Billy is my second fave.

This breaks my heart. I really hope he comes back next year.

I’d love to know who would have been in the bottom 3 if Alex wasn’t. I think THAT is the person who is the lucky one! I’m really sad that Alex can’t perform, he was my favorite – since his first audition – & the reason I was watching again.

Like Lelolai above, I’m really hoping this injury isn’t as huge a dent on Alex as it could be. He is such an amazing dancer, and I was so excited to see what he bought to the show next, because like Kath said I felt he had shown the potential to win it last week.

As for the other results – WTF America?????? I’m not in the USA, I cannot vote but if I could? Yeah Billy would be no where near the bottom 2. That Broadway routine? He was amazing. And he looked (for the first time) smoking hot during performance night too (but maybe that’s just me being a bit weird!).

Loved seeing Anya and Pasha perform together – a real treat for someone like me who only started watching the show in season 4.

So sorry to hear about Alex, and fingers crossed that he makes a complete recovery and goes on to have the extraordinary career he deserves. He was my pick to win it all this year and will be sorely missed.

As for the rest of the results…I’m floored that Billy was in the bottom 2…he was amazing!!!! I wasn’t as surprised about Ashley. While I thought Jose and Adechike both gave weaker performances, I don’t find Ashley to be as exciting a dancer as Billy, Kent, Lauren and Robert.

UGH! I truly believe that Alex would have won the whole thing or at least be in the final two with Kent. It’s crazy that his last dance on the show was that hip-hop routine. I think he would have been there even if he didn’t dance another routine.

RIP Alex Season 7. I look forward to seeing you in Season 8!

Wow, Kath, after watching that dance again, I sobbed even more this time. Somehow, it seems to mirror where Alex is at right now. Pretty intense! Plus, Allison is injured also. My prayers go out to two hugely inspiring dancers and I look forward to the marks they will continue to make on the world.

SYTYCD needs an ALL boys show AND and an ALL girls show. Girls have very little chance of vote getting since it seems it’s mostly girls who watch AND vote. Many of the women from past seasons deserved more than they got.
    Perhaps alternating boys/girl seasons.
