DirecTV Picks Up DAMAGES

July 19, 2010 by

DirecTV has done it again.

After saving critical favorite — but ratings-challenged — FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DirecTV has pulled a similar stunt with DAMAGES and picked the FX series up for two 10-episode seasons.

The broadcast satellite service  has also acquired the rights to reair the first three seasons of DAMAGES and will begin airing new episodes in 2011.

The only bad news for some fans of the Emmy-nominated series?

Unlike the DirecTV/NBC deal for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS — which allowed NBC to run the show after it had been initially broadcast on DirecTV — DAMAGES will be airing exclusively on its new network.

But we’re not complaining.

High fives to DTV. We like what you’re doin’…

You thrilled that DAMAGES will be returning? Or did you think it should have sailed off into the sunset?

This is terrific news! I hope they put on a quality two years at DTV (just like FX S1 and S3 of Damages). This break in production time should give the writers plenty of time to come up with tight storylines that have teeth, and even scare up some quality guest stars to go toe-to-toe with Patty and Ellen. Too bad there will be no Tom along for the ride, but maybe that gives them some leverage to bring on a new guy jr. associate (a la Ellen in Year 1) to haze.

With Damages, Friday Night Lights, and rebroadcast rights to The Wire, DirecTV is embracing the stamp of quality, an admirable stance in a marketplace full of dreck.
