BONES: TJ Thyne Makes Video Love to Hodgins

July 30, 2010 by

You know what we at GIVE ME MY REMOTE love?

TV actors who fully appreciate their show and the role they play.

Seriously, it’s such a refreshing thing to see an actor genuinely care about their character.

So when BONES star TJ Thyne tweeted, “Something I made for Hodgins fans. 5 years of Jack in 5 min. Hope u like it! See you in season 6!”, we were intrigued.

As it turns out, Thyne was inspired by some Jeopardy contestants — who were unfamiliar with Hodgins — to make a YouTube video highlighting some of his best moments.

Crazy, messy experiments, the ever-changing hairstyles, beloved former coworkers (Zack and Goodman!), “King of the Lab,” Hodgela, scientific words that will make your brain hurt, and everything else that makes Hodgins so freaking awesome are all blended together in this nearly five minute video.

You’ll likely get “I’ve Got a Feeling” stuck in your head for a week after you peep the montage, but it’s totally worth it.

AMERICAN IDOL Rumor Report: J. Lo the New Judge?

July 29, 2010 by

Whether you’re a fan of AMERICAN IDOL or not, it’s going to be hard to avoid the onslaught of rumors that will inevitably be coming your way over the next few days.

With tonight’s news that Ellen DeGeneres has left AMERICAN IDOL, two of the four previously occupied seats at the IDOL judges table are now empty.

Who will replace Ellen and Simon (and possibly even Randy and Kara)? Let the speculation begin.

Deadline.com is reporting that Jennifer Lopez has already signed on for next season’s IDOL as anew permanent judge. Although the news has not been confirmed by her reps or any other official outlet, rumor has it that Fox might make the announcement as early as Monday – their day in front of the critics at TCA.

Another music celeb whose name has been thrown around is Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler. The rumor mill is saying that he too was made an offer and has accepted. Tyler has the pedigree as shown by his musical accomplishments, but given his recent personal battles, it struck me as odd that his name was brought into the mix.

Regardless of who comes on board to judge next season, they better bring their ‘A’ game. For a show that was supposed to be finding new talent, too much of the spotlight has been spent shining down on the judges. Whether it’s Jennifer Lopez, Steve Tyler, or my great-aunt Sue, let’s hope the IDOL judges have something credible to offer next year’s contestants.

Stay tuned to GIVE ME MY REMOTE for the latest IDOL updates.

Who Went Home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

Thursdays are tough enough when we have to say goodbye to one dancer, but saying goodbye to two? Well, that’s just not right. (Especially if one of the dancers is not Jose). It’s going to be a tough night for SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

Before we go any further I must applaud Mia Michaels for an OUTSTANDING group routine this evening. Visually stunning and so incredibly well danced. Quickly one of my favorite group numbers of all time. Brilliant!

Keeping the momentum going, Nigel announced that in addition to the $250k going to the winner of this season of SYTYCD, the victor will also be the very first dancer featured in Gatorade ads since the thirst quencher has just declared dancing to be a sport. That’s very exciting news!

But tonight is about the results, so let’s get to it.

GOSSIP GIRL: Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage Spill on Chuck, Blair…and Eva in Season 4

July 29, 2010 by
Filed under Gossip Girl, Gossip Girl Spoilers

As promised, after the GOSSIP GIRL panel at TCA — which we live blogged for your reading pleasure — we did in fact storm the stage and attack executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz with your reader questions.

In this first installment of our interrogation, we concentrate on one Mr. Chuck Bass and what he’ll be up to in season 4.

But be sure to come back to GIVE ME MY REMOTE later tonight or early tomorrow for more on the rest of the show’s characters…

So, what can you say about the new season and Chuck’s story?
Stephanie Savage:
We’re really excited about Clemence [Poesy], who plays a character named Eva who comes to us through Chuck’s world. [Clemence] is such a special, special actress and, I think, coming from film and being European, she just has a totally different energy than the rest of the cast and it feels really fresh and exciting when she’s in scenes with these guys — both in Paris and then back in New York.

Do we know how long Clemence (Eva) is sticking around for?
SS: I know how long she’s sticking around for! I don’t want to say exactly how many episodes, because I find that people then count them down in a way that keeps them from really investing in the story, but it’s multiple episodes and she’s someone that we’ve loved working with so much that we’d love to have her back in the future.

Can you say anything about the character’s personality? Will she be likable?
SS:
I think she’s extremely likable. She’s very different than any of the other characters on the show and she comes in as a real outsider to the world — not just like Upper East Side versus Brooklyn but to the whole culture. And she’s a little bit of an innocent who gets schooled pretty hard when she arrives.

Courtesy of Blair, perhaps?
SS:
[Laughs] Perhaps!

BREAKING NEWS! Ellen DeGeneres Leaving AMERICAN IDOL

July 29, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, American Idol, Ellen DeGeneres

It has just been announced that Ellen DeGeneres won’t be returning to AMERICAN IDOL for a second season.

This surprising news comes on the heels of recent reports of a shake-up at IDOL.

In a statement from DeGeneres, she says: “A couple months ago, I let FOX and the AMERICAN IDOL producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on IDOL and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”

Fox and IDOL execs supported Ellen’s decision through effusive statements praising the humor and warmth she brought to the show.

With the departure of Simon Cowell, IDOL is at a bit of a crossroads. Declining ratings and an increasingly stale format meant something had to give. Maybe that something was Ellen. But don’t expect her absence to be the only change. It was announced this week that the show’s original co-creator, Nigel Lythgoe, will be returning to IDOL as an executive producer in an attempt to get things back on track.

Randy Jackson reportedly has one more year left on his contract, but Kara…not so much.

Will IDOL clean house and find new judges? While I think some fresh critiques could benefit the show, I think there are other areas of concern. IDOL has become increasingly dated. If nothing else, look at the finale which featured the Bee Gees, Michael McDonald and Chicago. Oy!

What do you think of Ellen’s departure? Will you miss her? Would you like to see Randy and Kara back or would the show be better without them? Weigh in below.

BONES Scoop: David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel Dish on Booth’s [Spoiler Alert!] and Their Characters’ Time Apart

When we last saw Booth and Brennan, they were saying an emotionally-charged farewell as they prepared to leave each other for a year — Booth to Afghanistan and Brennan to the Maluku Islands.

It appears, however, that they will be called back to D.C. before the year is up… but a lot will have happened during their time apart.

TOP CHEF D.C.: Power Lunch & The Great Pea Puree Debate

July 29, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Erik, Top Chef

Appetizer: Congressman Aaron Schock (R, Illinois) joined the contestants for a toothpick-centered Quickfire Challenge.  $20,000 for one bite of food is a nice payoff for the Top Chefs!  Did I really see Chicken & Waffles on one toothpick?  Andrea was very ambitious with that option.  Angelo banked another victory, using a cucumber cup that successfully lobbied the young politician.  The best part of this challenge was the simplicity of each dish.  Even though I have the taste buds of a nine year old, I would have tried any of the contestants’ toothpick samplers, and that makes for better TV.

First Round of Drinks:  Four pound lobsters are scary looking.  If the SyFy Network cannot parlay the visual of those creatures crawling around the kitchen into their next horror movie, I will be disappointed.  As a native of New England, I am ashamed to say that lobster has never been my favorite food.  Obviously, frequent diners at The Palm Restaurant disagree!

Entree: The stakes of the elimination challenge were enhanced by two factors.  First, The Palm is a household name in the restaurant industry, and the chefs were in awe of the opportunity to take over their kitchen.  Second, Ed & Tiffany’s burgeoning friendship lead to the first example of true teamwork this season.  After Ed’s pea puree was swiped by Alex, Tiffany was quick to calm her colleague down and suggest that he work with broccolini instead.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Will Go Back To Basics in Season 6 with Rachel Bilson, Robin Sparkles…and a Flash Forward?

July 29, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, HIMYM, How I Met Your Mother

If you’re a longtime HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER fan who has stuck with the series from season 1 through May’s season 5 finale, you know this past year was a bit of a departure from what we’d come to expect.

Before meeting with co-creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, poolside at the Beverly Hilton last night, I asked HIMYM viewers — via Twitter — if they had any questions for the show runners and the first response I got was: “What are their overall feeling towards last season? As [a] fan it was [the] most uneven of the series, some great great but also some lows.”

Thankfully, I didn’t even have to bother lobbing that notion at Thomas and Bays, because they began our chat by acknowledging it.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Rundown

Filed under So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD

Dan and I will be saving our full review of last night’s SYTYCD for the upcoming SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE podcast, but I’m dying to hear what you thought of last night’s performances. So I thought I’d share a few highlights and turn it over to you.

In no random order…

  • He might not be at the top of everyone’s favorite list, but AdeChicke continues to amaze me with his solo work.  Last night was no exception. His solos are so interesting to watch and so beautifully executed.
  • We haven’t seen Lauren do much solo work this season (that happens when you don’t spend a lot of time in the bottom three), but last night she performed a solo that reminded us all just how fabulous she is. It was reminiscent of the routines she dazzled us with back in Vegas. I watched it twice.

SMALLVILLE’s Cassidy Freeman: Tess is Going to Question Her Morals

July 28, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Smallville, TV News

When SMALLVILLE ended last season, Tess Mercer certainly appeared to be dead.

However, the CW announced rather quickly that her portrayer, Cassidy Freeman, would return for the show’s final year.

So, um, what exactly is going on? How is Tess still alive?

“The woman with the knitting needles obviously means something, right?” Freeman says to us in the clip below, taken at Comic Con this past weekend. “I honestly don’t know what that means yet. We’re only [filming] episode two right now. So all I know is that I’m back and it’s going to be good.”

But will she be back as a changed woman?

“I think she’s really going to question her morals when she comes back,” Freeman offers. “Her wanting to help Clark is going to stay true in the beginning of the season at least, but who knows what will happen in the end?”

Does Freeman ultimately want Tess to be good or evil?

She answers in the video, so take a look…

Should Tess be a good or bad girl?
