BONES Exclusive: Emily Deschanel Reveals When She’s Making Her Directorial Debut

July 26, 2010 by

During the BONES panel at Comic-Con in 2009, series star Emily Deschanel revealed that she really wanted the chance to direct an episode of the show — but creator Hart Hanson was wary of the idea, since Deschanel already works crazy hours.

It seems, however, that her persistence has paid off.

Deschanel tells GIVE ME MY REMOTE that she will be directing a BONES  ep this year.

“I broke them down,” Deschanel explains in the video below. “I kept asking and asking and knocking on their doors and asking and shaming and everything, so I am going to direct this season.”

And when will it go down? Deschanel was good enough to give GMMR the exclusive on that, saying that she’ll be shooting her episode in January, right after the BONES crew comes back from their holiday break.

Exciting, no?

Does she want her hour to be a big event? After all, her co-star David Boreanaz got to helm the 100th ep.

Peep the video for Deschanel’s take on that…

Actor-turned-directors always seem to direct right after the holidays. Last year Krasinski and NPH did the same. Wonder if it’s because it gives them more time to prep? Or…maybe it’s just a coincidence.

Awesome! Emily’s dad is a cinematographer/director as well, perhaps the talent runs in the family. She’ll probably do a great job!

    Can’t wait!

I noticed that HH was wary of letting her direct an episode, stating that she had such a crazy schedule. My comment is: is her schedule any more crazy that David’s? Female v. Male Director standards?

I’m thrilled! David did an amazing job, and I have no doubt her episode will be equally fabulous.

I’m sure she’ll do great. Thanks for sharing this!

@AnnieZ Her schedule is probably a bit heavier than David because of the lab scenes and also her dialogues must be more difficult than his.

That’s wonderful news! I’m so excited for Emily to direct, it’ll be such a great opportunity for her. It’s fantastic that she’s taking on such a big role! Good on her!!

I think this is truly awesome news. I too have no doubt that Emily will do a brilliant job. HH is always saying how organised Emily is, so she’ll be ok of that I have no doubt. If I’m not mistaken as well, Emily will actually be the first lady to direct an episode of Bones. A real honour indeed. GO EMILY xxxx

BRILLIANT! Looking forward to the finished product! Good luck with it Emily! I used to be married to a director so I know the pressure is intense!

I’ve been watching Bones for a long time now, I enjoy the feel of the show and who better than one of it’s stars to get the feel right. I’m sure Emily will do great!

I’m very excited for her to direct! I’m sure that the reason why it’s been so long in coming is that she does have a heavier filming schedule than David Boreanaz since she also has the lab scenes to film. How exciting for her to finally get to do something she’s so obviously and clearly desired for a few years!!

I’m sure she’s going to do a great job. She has a true Fan’s feeling about the show as well. I think that her schedule, that Hart referred to was in reference to all the volunteer work that Emily is involved with. Not meant to be a sexist thing at all. Also, her dialogue is a lot heavier, she’s in more scenes, not just the scenes with David but with the squints…nearly every scene involves bouncing off of her. And just the natural tendency that it takes all woment longer in the makeup and hair department before each show. Unless of course the man has a lot of prosthetic make up etc.

Anyway. I”m looking forward to her debut. I’m sure if she has any questions she can lean on her Dad for a littl advice.
    Good job Em!
