What’s Up With SMALLVILLE’s Chloe in Season 10? Producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders Answer Some Burning Questions

August 9, 2010 by

As SMALLVILLE heads into its final season, fans of original cast member Allison Mack (Chloe) prepare to accept her reduced role on the series.

It’s all good news for Mack — who is currently doing a play in New York — but SMALLVILLE viewers are understandably bummed and wondering what’s next for Chloe.

GIVE ME MY REMOTE caught up with show producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders to hear what they had to say about the departure of Ms. Sullivan…

The big question for many SMALLVILLE fans is how many episodes will Chloe be in this season. Do you have a number for them?
Brian Peterson: Several.
Kelly Souders: We don’t exactly know [how many] yet.
BP: Several [episodes], but what’s great is what’s happening with her character is so strong that it kind of propels through some of the episodes she’s not in. So she’s really kept very much alive in the season. I think we really believe that Chloe and the Chlollie fans will be really happy with the way we are sending her character off.

Speaking of Chloe-Oliver and their fans, were you expecting their relationship to take off the way it did?
KS: When we saw “Roulette,” the last scene between Chloe and Oliver, we [took notice]. We weren’t really thinking anything at the time [when it was written], but when we saw the footage, we all sat around and went, “What is happening on screen? There’s like this insane chemistry!” And then we saw once it aired how much people were in to it. So those moments are where it’s exciting and where it gels and we’re happy.

When I spoke with Justin Hartley (Oliver), he mentioned that Chloe’s departure is due to someone taking her. He also said Oliver will spend time searching for her. So what can you tease about that storyline?
BP: Wow, Justin talking out of school! [Laughs] That is true. I think you will be very surprised at who–
KS: And how.
BP: –and in what way she reemerges.

Will she perhaps reemerge as someone fans of the SUPERMAN comics would recognize?
KS: Like everything in SMALLVILLE, there is always a SMALLVILLE spin on any moment from the comics. We love to do nods to them and I think Chloe’s character evolves and as much as she came into fruition last year and took control and [took] charge, it’s going to be tenfold this year.

Will you be spreading out the episodes Allison will appear in? For instance, do you know if she’ll be in the series finale?
KS: We don’t know that yet.
BP: We know there will be several episodes [she’ll be in] mid-season, but it’s really too hard to plan for the series finale right now.

Here’s hoping she’s in that last ep, because it wouldn’t feel right without her.

Excited to see how the writers send Chloe off? Nervous?

Thank you so much again for asking the Allison Mack, Chloe & Chlollie questions. You rock so much!

  2. Maud on August 9th, 2010 12:18 pm

Thank you. I’ve been waiting for this part forever. Hopefully Allison/Chloe will be in the series finale. Can’t imagine it without her. I really hope that “we” Chlollie fans are gonna be very happy this season. There is just so much chemistry between Justin and Allison. This is by far the most realistic pairing on the show and I’d love to see it evolves even more.

Looking forward to your Erica Durance interview. She is awesome. Thanks

  4. Rocket on August 9th, 2010 12:20 pm

BS….whatever happened to smallville : the story of superman…this is a sad state of what a joke this show has become. The writers are more interested in writing for secondary characters than the main character.

  5. Ellen on August 9th, 2010 12:25 pm

I appreciate your interview. I wish Allison Mack much success on Broadway.

I think the number of fans who are super invested in Chloe and her relationship have been a bit exaggerated. I think you’ll find that the true majority of Smallville fans really are just concerned about Clark and his story.

I’m looking forward to Erica Durance’s interview as she always has great things to say about Clark.

And I bet if this article was about Lois or Clois, you’d be worshiping and fawning over it.

  9. E.R on August 9th, 2010 1:00 pm

Thank you so much for this interview. Now I definitely know that I can catch Allison’s scenes on youtube.

Love how it doesn’t take long for the haters to comment. Obviously the fact that there is a lot buzz surrounding Ms. Mack’s return is a hard pill to swallow for some “Fans” At least make it a little less obvious that you guys worship at the temple of the Great (Rolls eyes) Durance.

Nothing to see this season folks, with Allison Mack gone Smallville is a heap of talentless shit! Enjoy! =)

  10. Anne on August 9th, 2010 1:05 pm

So you had a chance to interview to the producers about an entire season of an entire show, and you spend the ENTIRE time talking about Chloe? That’s ridiculous. I had been anticipating hearing from Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson about the upcoming final season. In particular, I wanted to know more about Clark’s evolution to becoming Superman, the Darkseid plot, and more insight into the 200th episode. I know I tweeted you several questions about these issues, but I guess you decided to single-mindedly focus on Allison Mack and Chloe Sullivan.

Really, I know you can do better than this. I do appreciate the effort and I did appreciate some of this information, but next time try and take advantage of talking to a show’s producers by asking about the entire show, and not just one aspect of it. Thanks.

  11. Jenny on August 9th, 2010 1:11 pm

I love the haters, I really do.

I bet you just saw ‘Chloe’ and decided to click on it and maybe write some (more) negative comment. If you were really checking this site and waiting for the interview, then you’d know this interview here is PART 2.

  12. Monica on August 9th, 2010 1:52 pm

Thanks for the interview, I hope the best for Chloe and Chlollie! 😀

  13. Marisa on August 9th, 2010 2:16 pm

@Anne- Just a heads up, but this is actually the second part of my interview with Kelly and Brian. Part 1 is here: https://www.givememyremote.com/remote/2010/07/30/smallville-producers-kelly-souders-and-brian-peterson-tease-the-final-season/

Unfortunately, the vast majority of questions I got from my Twitter followers re: SV came in after I started my interview. It was an unexpected interview, otherwise I would have given you guys much more than two minutes to get them in, but they were suddenly in front of me and I couldn’t pass up the chance to chat with them.

  14. Marisa on August 9th, 2010 2:16 pm

But I’m glad to see many of you enjoyed the interview 🙂

  15. Stacy on August 9th, 2010 3:03 pm

    thanks for the interview =)

  16. Dawn on August 9th, 2010 4:38 pm

Thanks so much for the interview! I know all the Chlollie fans in our community definitely appreciated hearing from Kelly and Brian on their “insane chemistry.”
In our defense, some of us saw it before “Roulette” but we loved that episode and are thrilled it opened others eyes as well. I’m very eager to see how Chloe and Oliver’s relationship develops further, and the roles they play in this final season. Their characters have come a long way, and it’s been an incredible journey to see them arrive where they are now.

I also find it amusing that some people are calling Chloe fans bullies. I’ve never come across a real Chloe fan who had a negative thing to say about any character or fan-base. The only people who seem to be feeding the negative energy pool are those fans who get confused thinking “Smallville” is supposed to be 100% true to the comics, or previous film features and adaptations, such as “the Adventures of Lois and Clark”–That stuff has been done and is boring. Seeing side characters is exciting, from the Green Arrow, to the Flash, Cyborg, and Hawkman. It’s great to see the costumes, and the stories of some of your other heroes, and how they are a part of this version of Kal-El’s legacy.

Smallville is a separate series, with a different take. It’s been that way for going on ten years, I think some of the fans need to mature, and get over that, before the series finale. If you can’t, open up your Superman action figures and fiddle with your imagination.

  17. Val on August 9th, 2010 5:46 pm

The interview was amazing, thank you so much for asking about Chloe/Allison and Chlollie and please don’t think most of the Smallville fandom thinks negatively of you because of it, we are very grateful so many of you have been giving us information about Chloe and our favorite pairing! Can’t wait for season ten to start!

  18. Ellen on August 9th, 2010 5:59 pm

Thanks for the interview. What happens to Chloe’s character is frankly the only surprise out there. Clark becomes Superman this year. Lois and Clark have some bumps in the road but end the season together as a couple. But Chloe… Chloe is STILL the wildcard in the series. So — thanks for getting a little bit of data on the only mystery left in the show.

Looking forward to hearing more in the future.

  19. Naomi on August 9th, 2010 6:03 pm

Thanks for asking about Allison Mack and Chlollie 🙂

  20. Gen717 on August 9th, 2010 6:26 pm

Thanks so much for giving us more information about Chloe and Chlollie. I’ve wished/dreamed/hoped this couple would get together since the end of season 6. I’m thrilled the producers finally saw what lots of Chlolliers have seen long before “Roulette” – Insane chemistry between the actors. These two characters have gone through similar heartaches and experiences. They “get” each other in a profound way, like no one else does. They just FIT like puzzle pieces, there’s a synergy about them – together create something greater than themselves. And of course, the only way for Chlollie fans to end the series happy, is for Chlollie to end the series happily together. I’m gonna keep on hoping and wishing that Chlollie get their happy Smallville ending. 🙂

  21. chris on August 9th, 2010 6:48 pm

It will be great if you put clark in chloe’s storyline and not Oliver even with “their insane chemistry” because i’m not really agree. I think after 9 years Chloe and Clark relationship and undeniable chemistry smallville’s fans and not comic’s fans deserve a great end about their relationship no?

  22. Letícia on August 9th, 2010 7:53 pm

Thanks for the great interview ! 😀

    And… Chlollie FTW !

  23. paula on August 10th, 2010 1:12 pm

Thanks for asking about Allison Mack!! and Chlollie

  24. Jesse on August 10th, 2010 3:19 pm

Oh brother. I started watching SV in S8 for Clark and because I heard they were bringing more of a comics influence in. This is ridic. If S10 is going to be about characters that are not relevant to Clark’s Superman journey, I’m out. I’m still chuckling that the freaking GA is part of a Superman story.

  25. Leia on August 19th, 2010 9:01 am

Allison was the only actor left who can “actually” act. Watching Erica and Tom act is painful.

  26. Frank on August 20th, 2010 11:05 pm

It always amazes me when Lois/Clois fans don’t get what they want in an interview. They start to insult and bitch about the wonderful Allison Mack.
Allison this and Allison that..S10 should be about Clark not about Chloe..lala Blah blah..
Well..Chloe is Smallville..Original to the show and the only character other than Clark to have made it to the end..
Chloe ala Mack deserves to be as important to the story of Clark and Martha..And Lex is to Clark..and Lana.
Just because Clois/lois fans can’t get someone to fondly and praise Erica/Lois.
The Lois/Clois fans go nuts blaming AM/chloe for the interview.
Well..Lois isn’t important..She never was to the Smallville realm.
If she was she would have been there since day one But she wasn’t.
Painful is watching a bad actor as Erica’s Lois is and, trying to simulate some kind of chemistry that is non- existant with Clark.
    What Chemistry does Clois have?
Something manufactured and so false..I see more chemistry between Clark and Chloe.>Even when Clark is mad at her..or looking at her without saying a word..
Smallville needs to end..It is like a dying patient waiting to exhale.
With AM’s limited run in S10.She will be sorely missed and Smallville will not the same.
Am rocks..AM Legendary.>AM the one and true Lois lane of Smallville
So writers and producers. You have failed..failed to make us long time Fans believe that this Big fake chested Erica is Lois..
AM and TW are Smallville goal team..
Since day one..AM and TW has proven..that the history that they have built will never ever be erased no matter what Bull shit TPTB want to say or write..
Clois was and is a Failure.Thank goodness this Smaville-Clois will finally be over!

  27. Jean on August 24th, 2010 10:49 pm

Glad Chloe will be there some, but I do find it sad she was a regular for all the seasons and not for the last! All I can say is I invested a lot of my time into this show and if they send one of my favorite characters of all time off unhappy or worst of all dead, I will very upset. I stuck with this show through some tough seasons. That would be no way to repay us fans!!!

Love Chloe and Oliver and I hope those characters can both find happiness together!!!

  28. chloe simons on November 27th, 2010 2:51 pm

Hi im chloe Iove smallville I love how you are so smart and your acting and im only 9 im your bigest fan keep up the good work

    Sincerely,
    chloe
    🙂

  29. bill on February 5th, 2011 10:16 am

I think that as clois’ fans deserve to see her to the last episode,so and lana’s fans deserve it.We all know that both of them have almost the most important role at clark’s life and it’s pitty to see none of them to last episode. The most fans want both of them at the last episode and i thing that with that way the finalle will be much better and more exciting because we are looking forward to see their last important intervention at clark’s(superman) life.

  30. Joey on February 26th, 2011 12:01 am

I started watching this smallville late. I ended up buying all 9 seasons and am currently on season 8. I must say I’m in love with the character chole and can’t picture the season without her. She’s an awesome actress and I root for the best with her character. I’d be really disappointed if they ever took her off.

  31. abby on March 11th, 2011 10:32 pm

Chloe is an amazing character and add to the show. She made Clark Kent who he is in SMALLVILLE. So don’t be hating. Yes, Lois is the ultimate force in making Clark Kent Superman, but Chloe was there long before Lois was. She is an amazing actress and evey Alison Mack fan appreciated her in every episode. All the characters make what SMALLVILLE is today, so there shouldn’t be any hating.

  32. abby on March 11th, 2011 10:52 pm

And i believe that Lana should be brought back. Both Chloe and Lana were there long before Lois. I do like Lois, but i feel Chloe and Lana are true characters to Smallville.

  33. Debbie M on June 19th, 2011 3:21 pm

Smallville is great and I love Clarke and Lois as well as all the other characters, Chloe, Green Arrow, Lex, Larna etc, it such a shame that all the old characters could not be in the final episodes in order to give closure to their characters. Chloe’s Sullivans character was amazing and added to the show. She was the backbone behind Clarke. We all know that Lois is the ultimate force in making Clark Kent Superman, but Chloe was there long before Lois was. We love Alison Mack and appreciated her in every episode, but please lets all concentrate on Clarke evolving into superman afterall isnt that what’s smallville was all about.
